Hologram Blur

Archive: 7 posts

I'm making a pixel style platformer and have been working in front view. Now that I'm viewing my animations in preview mode, though, there is A LOT of blur--almost to the point that the object is unrecognizable. I've tried experimenting with the game camera, altering the brightness of the holos, and taking a photo of my entire object and making it into a sticker (which inexplicably seems to produce missing pixels upon placing said sticker). Nothing gets close to the sharpness of front view. What should I do? Hopefully this is a common problem, but if not then I'll be able to post pictures later. Thanks for any help!2011-09-26 19:39:00

Is there open air behind the holo? If so, put something behind it. That should fix it. I have experienced this problem myself and I was able to get my 'sharpness' back this way.2011-09-26 19:42:00

Is it the motion that's blurry, or are single frames blurry? It could be possible that certain parts of certain frames aren't being turned off when they should be and that would result in a blurry effect. I'm a little confused too, is it fine when in front view, then dodgy when not? Might be best for you to post some pictures.2011-09-27 00:43:00

The single frames, but Speedy's solution worked in this case.

I'm still having the problem with sticker blur, though.
So this is with front view off, and with a block of Dark Matter behind it to prevent blur. This is the original object that I took a photo of:

And here's what happens when I place the above sticker on a blank slate of holo material for an animation frame:

Yeah, that's what holo does it sort of glows... Adding to the fact that it's translucent results in some not so great looking images, especially if there is no object 'behind' it

You can try lowering brightness to around 10% and overlaying copies of the image. But that work around will never be as good as using the new Sticker Panel material. ALL HAIL STICKER PANEL *hails sticker panel*

Yep, that's just the properties of the hologram - see any other pixel based game and they have the same issue. Sticker Panel is the way to go, even if you don't have a Move controller you can still get the Sticker Panel from the tutorials of the Move Pack (among other things). It will give you a perfect image, so it's up to you if you think it's worth paying for it. I personally think it is!2011-09-27 13:08:00

Indeed, sticker panel makes everything 100 times easier. I always wanted to build hologram HUDs but it looked lame so I abandoned. Now I can. Thanks Sticker Panel, thanks.2011-09-28 01:29:00
