Hi! Um, me again with another song/tune/track thing - Spathiphyllum

Archive: 10 posts

Well hello again!

I like making these threads, because it means I actually went ahead and uploaded one of my songs for once! Oh, joy!

Anyway, this is my new one. It's a pretty mellow track, so it's easy on the ears. There are two versions of it, one is the "Inspirational" version, featuring a sample of wise words and the other is the same track without all that.

I'll let you decide which one you like best!

As always, please let me know what you think.

Want to hear a story, no? Well tough. I actually recorded this song months ago, I just never found a structure that fit nicely, so I forgot about it. I found it again earlier tonight and made this. The sample was just a happy coincidence that just so happened to fit with the length of the song without any editing.

EDIT: Also, download for free!

You dunnit again :o
So chill. Listened to this while drawing; it was perfect! The snare seemed a bit loud but that's probably just me desperately trying to find something to complain about. Great job nonetheless.

PS: I heard that vocal sample on a DJ Food track, I think!

Starts off pretty good. but as all the other beats are added, really comes alive plus the end part with that sort of, not exactly digital, glooby, tune thing with the sweet sounds raising up with the whatever intstruments used, that part especially would be great for the credits of a Mario game I haven't heard your music, didn't know you made any until now but I'll make sure to check them out when I have the time. Anyway though, well done on this piece, loved hearing it and I can't wait to see what you develop in the future. (Still need to hear the first one, cthat's not mainly instrumental though)2011-09-25 14:22:00

Hm, I though this myself, but kinda chose to ignore it. Silly of me really. I'll probably re-upload a tweaked snare version a bit later on. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeeeeea, it's not exactly the most original sample ever used. I'm sure it's in a lot of other stuff too, I just thought it sounded kinda cool overlapped with the song & how it changed tone the same time as the song. I recorded the music before adding the sample. Kinda weird how it fit.

Wow, it's pretty cool! It kind of reminds me the song Popular by Nada Surf. Keep up the good work!2011-09-25 18:30:00

I listened to both versions and i prefer the one without the sample (but that's more a personal taste, i'm not that fond of samples)

The instrumental version has a really nice laidback feeling which i really love. There are a couple of things that break that feeling for me though...
* the snare, it sounds loud and a bit too aggresive for this song imho. I think a much softer snare would fit better here
* the song has a lot of reverb, a bit too much for my taste. It sounds a bit washed out (ofcourse this reverb also adds alot of character too the song)
* the arpeggio synthline that comes in at around 2.00 sounds a bit loud (sounds good compared to the snare, but since the snare is too loud, this is aswell imho)
I've to say, i didn't listen to it on normal "hi-fi" speakers but on studio monitors, it probably sounds a lot softer and more balance on hi-fi's though.

All in all i really like the song, nice job man!

Thanks, guys!

hehe, this sounds so familiar as i made that mistake so many times
Don't ignore that feeling if you feel someting is not right about your own stuff as it's a very important thing!
(kind of like your first impression about your own stuff, as far that's possible ofcourse... )

anyways, keep up the good stuff!

cheers,

Thanks for the feedback, Misty!

Haha! Well, I never claimed to have mastered the track or anything like that, so whereas it sounds good through my headphones, it probably sounds all over the place from any other output! It's good to get a solid opinion from someone who has the right kit!

I'll take what you said into consideration!

I use a program called Ableton Live 8. Only using the pre-set instruments. Reeeeeeeeealy need to buy some decent plug in's and learn my way around Logic if I want to progress though!

Thanks for listening!
