Move Paint Tool: Detailed Paintings

Archive: 11 posts

Brush tips

Turn the opacity of the brush as low as you can by moving the left stick to the left until the brush disapears, then move it right a little until you can draw with it again.
To get the most detail you need to make your brush as small as possible, shrink it all the way then make it slightly bigger until you can draw with it again.

I reccomend using the squareish looking brush. When you shrink it and turn the opacity down it makes lighter gradients, and when you continuously draw with it, it gets darker slower. Using spray paint mode will make things look smoother when trying to blend.

Making paintings or other detailed things

First you should make an outline of whatever you want to make.(Original or copying a real life painting) It will make it a lot easier to keep track of where things go when you start to resize things. Save this.

Zoom in on the outline, erase around what you are going to be adding to, then add outlines for the details. Save it.

Put the first outline as background then take out your second one and put it over where it should be. Save.

Get rid of background and erase the second outline. Take out the second outline as a sticker and enlarge it as much as you can. Make sure you keep it straight. The idea is you make your painting is parts then shrink it and peice it together after, so you need everything to line up..

Put down a base color.

Take out the outline again, enlarge it and put it over. Save this then clear/erase.

Start making a color pallet. Can be simple, using low opacity will make more colors later.

Bring what you just made out again. Using your tiny/low opacity brush set to spray paint, start adding in some colors

While you do that, take the new colors made from the spray paint and add them to your color pallet. Use them to start adding shading.

When you're done just paint over the color pallet. Save.

Clear everything then take out your outline again, this time enlarge it so you can see a different section that borders what you just made.

You can make smaller details, such as eyes, seperately then add them in using the sticker brush.
http://i55.tinypic.com/jpub0o.png
Bring out your color pallet.

Repeat everything you did the first time using same colors.

If it overlaps with the other one you can try to match some of the parts. Save it, then clear.

Take out your outline and place the sections you made in using sticker brush. Save, clear.

Take that out as sticker and enlarge it. Start smoothing out the lines made by the stickers and start painting in parts from the surrounding sections.

Resize when necessary then repeat until done.

Making custom lines/curves.
Pretty simple, use in-game line/circle sticker to cut out from white paint. Save, done. Not sure why people have trouble with this

You can take pseye pics of stuff you want to make in-game, like fonts, then just go over them.

As of right now paintings made with paint tool will corrupt after a day or two, meaning you wont be able to use them until theres a fix.
Some people say to stick them in prize bubbles in empty levels, delete from popit and collect, I havent tried so I dont know if it works.

remarkable work there! this was straight into my tutorial thread

i haven't done anything yet, but would it be a good idea to draw big and then shrink? seems to make sense to me

@ cliffbo...Drawing big and shrinking is always the best approach for improved clarity of a pic. The draw tool though, IMO, has too poor a resolution to be of any "real" artistic value, especially when the image you want to draw requires significant detail. But, it's better than nothing I suppose.2011-09-23 19:38:00

YES! The more you enlarge it/the more peices you make it in the better!

on a related note (and i don't want to derail this thread too much) are you guys still painting even though the glitch is corrupting your stuff? i'm just a bit afraid of doing anything at the moment

I am, i'm finishing the Mona Lisa and making stuff for other people.

Im just hoping that when MM fixes it, they make the stickers that have corrupted, uncorrupt.

Tried it, but now am waiting until ALL issues are resolved. Although, I may try the prize bubble approach and see if that works in the interim.

EDIT: btw Bremnen...some very nice work you displayed above.

How do you stop the move controller from shaking? I tried using both hands, moving faster, even used a tripod (lol). Wilkr003 was showing me some of his paintings, and they looked so exact and detailed. My lines always turn out wobbly, and the cursor keeps shaking. Besides for practice, what can I do?2011-10-15 03:18:00

wait till the Vita comes out and you'll be able to use the touch screen

i've got the same problem. i tried removing a picture from a frame and drawing on th glass. i did actually work to an extent but it still wasn't perfect. and can you give me a link to those pics please?

edit. this is how this guy does it:

How do you use the lines you create? I tried putting down my objects in paint, but it won't let me go into My Objects. Btw, I found moving your arm in the intended direction a few times without painting, when you paint, your arm is used to the motion and is a little more exact. Oh, and Wilkr003 was showing them to me in his moon, so I can't show them.2011-10-15 17:26:00
