WTF, Forsaken World? WTF...

Forsaken World, a free to play, free to download MMORPG available through steam, is a fun, addicting experience... But it feels very... Oh my god. It cannot be.. It is! It is a blatant knock off of World of Warcraft! The central mechanic is exactly the same, the character creation menu is strikingly similar, and the race intros are nearly identical. The quest giving symbols are yellow "?" and "!" just like Blizzard's MMO. And even some of the props in world, Like the large pikes jutting from the ground around cities look to be the same 3D model.

I would be fine with all this. I would love the chance to play a free WoW, and consider it almost an homage. But no. They ruined that too. In the end user license agreement, I am not to ever talk about WoW, EQ2, GW, or any other MMO (or video game at all) in any forum concerning Forsaken World or my account an be banned for life. My IP address will be black listed if I even make the smallest comparison. I have read on the steam forums about people who had actually spent real world money in the game's marketplace, only to be black listed for mentioning Blizz.

What kind of a world do we live in today? What is this bull crap?

And why do I have the feeling Macnme is about to storm in and either tell me off, or agree wholeheartedly with all this? One or the other. The man sits on no fences.		2011-09-23 10:35:00

Yikes, that must be touchy subject for someone at Forsaken World's team. At least you can discuss about other games in many other forums. I mean, It's alright to talk about awesome do-it-yourself games like Warioware DIY in LittleBigPlanet forums?

I think they are trying to make you not think about it... I suggest downloading the WoW trial, and Forsaken World, and comparing side by side.

...HOLY CRAP. I just noticed that the sign in screen, and the updater are nearly identical to those of WoW...

It is just going too far IMHO. I mean, the interface, the world, the mounts... It is like they took the WoW source code, and slapped a few graphical updates on it.		2011-09-23 10:52:00

Lol... Never played WoW so I didn't notice all those similarities... xD I also didn't read the license thingy so I had no clue about that 'No speaky of other stuffs' clause... o.O You just saved me SOOOO much trouble... Lol.2011-09-23 15:50:00

Here are some of my findings. Side by side.


First, the log in... Notice both have the same theme. A winged monster perched on a castle.

Next, Character select, very similar layout, with the realm select in the exact same position. Forgivable.

But here is the play screen. Notice the action bars to the bottom and side... Same bar, different art. Also, note the similar minimaps, the position of the chat window, and the similar settings. These areas in both games are the starting city for Elves. The boat I found was strikingly similar to the boat in WoW. Obvious copying of the Night Elves of WoW.

Here is a low level enemy from the same starting area in both WoW and Forsaken World. Hello, beastie! Someone has been playing in the Night Elf city, Darnassus. It was the dev. of Forsaken World!

I think Runes of Magic went pretty far with WoW stuff. But it wsd considered the best free to play MMO. I don't mind MMORPGs copying WoW.2011-09-23 20:12:00

it's probably a marketing ploy set up by Blizzard themselves. they'll sucker you in with this "free MMORPG" but then the game suddenly ends. now you're hopelessly addicted to it. Hmm, what other game is similiar? Companies have done this before.2011-09-23 20:37:00

No, it is by a company based out of Beijing called "Perfect World Entertainment" As far as I know, they have no affiliation to Blizz. And the game does not end, but it uses real money for some of the trade. Thats how they fund it.

Nope... Still don't see them... o.O Weird... Oh well... I've seen WoW... I just haven't played it. So I know SOME of the similarities... Just not ALL of them. Like that boat thing... Didn't know that.		2011-09-24 02:42:00

Never said I had an issue with any of that. I actually didn't know that they didn't let you talk about it... That's something I DO have an issue with. But remember: They're from China, their freedom of speech (if they have any) is different than ours. (America I mean... I don't know about UK or anything...)

I am not entirely sure that it is coming from that. I mean, China really isn't as bad as our US media portrays it. It is a very progressive society, and I don't think they would censor something like that.2011-09-24 03:27:00
