Bands/Artists you think no one else at LBPC listens to

Archive: 91 posts

Like the title says I want you to post the artists/bands you think no one else but you at LBPC listens to.
It's a great way to introduce people to new music.

Since I'm the OP I guess I should start.

My pick: Primus. An old funk/heavy rock band that I believe not many has ever heard of, despite their success. What makes this band truly awesome is the great emphasis on the bass. The bass of often an after thought in most music, but not in this case. This band is definitely a love it or hate it. Though you can't disagree with the fact that Les Claypool is one hell of a bassist.

My pick has to be the band Rush... They also have the bass realy stand out, and I love playing the bass, and there songs are so much fun to play (but very hard to learn) Their dummer is also one of the best I have heard.2011-09-19 02:25:00

Primus Suck;
I've been listening to Primus since Frizzle Fry.
I thought EVERYONE had heard of them because of Southpark?

If there's another person that listens to C.W Stoneking - I would be very surprised.

They suck indeed. I wish I sucked as much as they do.
I found out about them after going through some old Woodstock 94 videos.

System of a Down.

At least, not many other people SHOULD be listening to it, as the music is basically only suitable for adults and most members here are just whippersnappers.

hm...NO
not at all.
System of a Down are nice, but...hm...no mature music...
the beat hard their instruments, but they aren't really effective, they are not extreme, nor is their music.
Playing lots of notes or intense distortion, or fast, is not enough.

Mature...what about Gorod?

I can't believe people are quoting poular, well known bands like System of a Down and Massive Attack as though they're hidden gems waiting to discovered by the casual listener. These bands were huge in their day and enjoyed great mainstream radio success. Lol, I mean what comes next? Anyone gonna say..."hey, I bet y'all never heard of Radiohead"?

Anyway, I'm gonna post a few truly obscure bands who are criminally underappreciated, and if anyone else here listens to these then I'll eat the lint in my pocket...

(Warning: the last vid I've posted here (Songs: Ohia) is perhaps the most gut-wrenchingly, heart-breakingly melancholy song ever composed, so if you become clinically depressed and commit suicide after hearing it then please tell your friends and family not to blame me)

Sorry dude. I've just read my own post and it sounded a bit harsh. It just surprised me that you would think that nobody else would listen to something so popular and well known.

Anyway, you were wrong because I listen to Massive Attack. Because I'm also a huge fan of Hope Sandoval, Paradise Circus is one of my all time favourite songs. Massive Attack in a dark and moody phase accompanied by Hope's haunting vocals is an audio orgasm to my ears!

NOBODY LISTENS TO DREAM THEATER??? WHAT A SHAME.

Their longest song is 45 minutes. Their connected series song, the "Twelve Step Suite", is 56 minutes. Dream Theater's thinking of music is so complicated, their first song in the "Octavarium" album, which is "Root of all Evil", is the first song in the album "Octavarium", and "Octavarium" is the last song in the album.

"The Root of all Evil's" intro is Octavarium's outro. "Root of all Evil" is part of the "Twelve Step Suite", which indicates that "Octavarium", which is 23 minutes long, is intertwined with the "Twelve step Suite". Octavaruim maybe the epilogue of the "Twelve Step Suite".

AND in the song Octavaruim, the line recited in the song is "everything begins where it ends". The song is about a man who has been asleep for 30 years, and is awakened in a hospital. He afterwards goes back into his long lasting sleep. The album cover of "Octavarium" are those metal spheres that never stop hitting each other. As the tapping of the spheres never end.

http://www.imagehosteronline.com/image-B7CA_4E7FF994.jpg (http://www.imagehosteronline.com/share-B7CA_4E7FF994.html)

The song has a theme of Awakening. An older album is called "Awake" which was composed in 1994. A song in the album called "The Mirror". "The Mirror" is considered a Prologue to "The Twelve Step Suite".

"The Mirror" is the "The Twelve Step Suite's" prologue, as Octavaruim is the "Twelve Step Suite's" epilogue.

The irritating Techno of today is irrelevant and simple compared to Dream Theater's abilities of endurance, as the band most last an exhausting average of 20 minute songs every time they record, and play live.
Dream Theater also think VERY smart, as they connect almost all their songs into one big collaboration.

Thank you if you actually read all of my findings.

Weird how it seems to work, huh? lol.

What I like to do sometimes is to search YouTube for the most obscure dubstep remix possible. Usually, i'll find what i'm looking for. For example, I once searched "Father Jack Dubstep."

Does anybody like The Courteeners, or Temper Trap or Mumford and Sons?

@Mr T-Shirt - Seeing you post those Aphex Twin clips brought back some bad memories. I remember staying up late one night, alone at home when I was about 14/15 (ten years ago), twas flicking through the music channels, and this song came on, it was Aphex Twin (hence the anicdote ). Anyway, it starts off with these tow blokes sitting in the car chatting and swearing at each other for about 15 minutes, then it goes to the actual song bit, and it has those people dancing around in a pool or something with the lead singer's (or whatever he is) face super-imposed on their bodies. Now, he has quite a freaky face, but at the instant I saw these freaky looking people, I didn't realise it was his face, I didn't know what the heck it was...... it scared the bejeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus out of me!!!! Needless to say, I did not sleep well that night.
I have seen it since... it's still freaky as heck, but doesn't scare me quite as much as it did initially.

You mean Windowlicker? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IApCp2Pl8k) (Warning, warning: Naughty Language.)

Yeah to be honest, Windowlicker isn't one of my favourite songs by him either. It's a shame a lot of people were probably put off his stuff because some of it is so **** freaky! Seriously though, look at that in contrast to Avril 14th (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBFXJw7n-fU) and it's like a whole other artist. Just don't watch "Rubber Johnny!"

Also, i'm kinda glad this thread got bumped again! I wanted to post these songs for you guys, but didn't want to double post:

Do you remember a band called "Peter Bjorn & John?" Maybe? There most famous song was "Young Folks." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51V1VMkuyx0)

Well, here are a few other of their tracks. If you ask me, they are still seriously underrated.

Al Di Meola...not many people listen to his music to begin with--so, what are the odds.
Personally, I find the depth of the instrumentals incredible on all levels. I hope you enjoy.

Oh, this is too easy. I could go on for a while here. All of these are electronic artists, I'll start from the most obscure and work my way through to the slightly more popular artists.

Captain Credible:

Ohboyherewego...
I'm sure plenty of people have heard of them, but I doubt many (if any) here on LBPC listen to the Insane Clown Posse. Or any other artists under Psychopathic Records: Twiztid, Boondox, ABK, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, etc...

(Don't worry, believe it or not, this is one song by ICP that doesn't have any swearing!)

Has anyone heard Rancid? Probably not. They are a freakishly good punk band. My favorite band.

Maybe you have heard Thrice?

What I am absolutely sure you haven't heard is The Transplants.

Just why? Why would you ever make a dubstep version out of an Aphex song, especially Avril 14th? Do people really think everything sounds good remixed, because if that's the case, I'm disappointed.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I'd have considered the thought of a dubstep remix of Avril 14th sacrilege. But, what can I say? I think that one's pretty good. At least it's sticking to the electronic genre with a bit of variation rather than being sampled by Kanye "I was cool in 2005" West. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMUhsUCmJHc)

That is an very interesting topic. Maybe you'd like this series of short documentaries about that very issue?

Coincidentally, some of the music used in them is by Aphex Twin. Who'd a thunk it?

System of a Down.

At least, not many other people SHOULD be listening to it, as the music is basically only suitable for adults and most members here are just whippersnappers.
Haha I love System of a Down! And really more teenagers listen to innapropiate music than adults, because adults are "mature" lol

"Know One" because I liked their song "Savali...It's Complicated" from their album "Know One's Home". Only song I have from them, though.
No link because Know One knows of them. Find it on iTunes.
"Sporty-O" and "The Audiostalkers" because of "Let Me Hit It". (sorta explicit)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LlYs_s1494
"Cronos Dage" because he does cool audio mashups and stuff.
Link temporarily down
"dj alexs" or "aelxs" because.
"DJ Cappa", good mashups.

"DarkMateria" because of "The Picard Song".

Has anyone heard of Less Than Jake? They are a great ska-punk band. VenemoX you might like them because you obviously like Sublime, they are ska too, but with more "pop-punk" thrown in.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVE5dOyqPQg
Also as I mentioned before Operation Ivy is really cool, they helped start musical trends that got famous from bands like Sublime and Green Day.
here is one of their songs:
