Welp, I've run into quite a problem. (Painting sticker related)

Archive: 70 posts

It seems that after awhile, paintings you made become inaccessible in the sticker menu, and have an exclamation point beside them.

I am guessing the files are very easy to corrupt. The stickers I already have placed of these images are still usable, at least.

I'm wondering if there's any way to prevent this from happening besides saving them several times as back up (which I'm worried backups will also get corrupted), or being able to get back the images.

Yeah this has happened to me also its very annoying as i just made some really detailed and good backgrounds images for one of my projects.

Luckily i had also used a couple that i can copy from where i used them to re use.

This is very irritating though sort of makes the paint tool a one shot wonder.

I had this too, so I rolled back to an older profile from a time when they used to work, but they were corrupt there too. So, I tried backup up, deleting and reimporting my most recent profile, and even more paintings were corrupted.

What might work is if, as soon as you make a painting you care about keeping, you put it in a prize bubble, and publish it in a private online storage level. To ensure no-one else plays it, either mark it as a sublevel, or crush the entrance, or both - locking doesn't seem to completely prevent other people from playing it.

Personally, though, I won't be using the paint tool until this is fixed. What really worries me is if I use one in a level, and the painting becomes corrupted, then the level might also.

It seems a lot of people are having this issue

You can go to getsatisfaction (http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/corrupted_move_paint_stickers) to sound your grief.

ok, try this. press square on the sticker and press edit and see what happens. If it goes into edit mode, save it again. =D2011-09-18 14:38:00

I tried just about everything I could think of to restore it. About the only I could still do was export it to HDD, but it may well have been using a pre-computed rescaled bitmap version which was stored independently, in the same way that the the popit icon bitmap was still valid.

Just curious as I haven't played with it enough to experiment and have the issue.

How full is anyone's profile? Wondering if it is almost full and somewhat an allocation issue on profile memory when reloaded on next startup. The reason I am curious is it seems some folks are having this issue and not even online.

Good question actually. Could be an allocation problem. Mine's ~12MB FWIW.

What do you mean by profile full...what's the limit these days? I thought this was adressed when they changed how it was stored (I still contend it's bone-headed to glob the level data in with everything else)? My profile is currently 13 MB....and it's almost entirely level data, almost no costumes, items, images, etc. If there's some lmit maybe it's time to delete the LBP1 stuff. Sounds like we'll be waiting for a 1.08 patch before it's safe to create again. Apparently ninjas make lousy QA teams... 2011-09-18 17:48:00

Not sure what the limit is, I know it is more these days. I was thinking allocation as far as objects to stickers there might be a allocation issue that they might not have run into during QA testing. Like drawn stickers taking up a bit more room and thus landing a bit wacky in memory once you fire it up again.

So as a test, I was wondering if someone stuck quite a few unneeded objects in a locked published level (removing the level from their moon and objects from their profile), to see if any stickers came back useable on next startup.

Just a thought is all..

I just had this problem, but luckily it was just a painting I didn't care about. So let me get this strait: Can you prevent this from happening by placing the painting before it gets corrupted in a level?2011-09-18 18:48:00

If you place a sticker you make in a level then you can keep copying the sticker from the level to reuse. If you place it on a piece of material like holo or the sticker material and save it in your popit then you can keep bringing it out and then use the sticker movement tool to move it to wherever you like in the level like normal.
This is what i am doing now the only problem is my popit is now full.

Also btw my profile is 38mb well when i last checked anyway. Don't know if this has anything to do with it though but worth testing. I might load my other profile and see what happens there.

At first i thought it was to do with me keep backing up my profile then loading it on another PS3 that i take to work but this doesn't seem to be the issue.

Agha! This topic is cursed!
all 5 paintings in my popit now don't work ( ; _ ; )
most have happened sometime last night... knew I should not have replied here... xD

Edit: I'm not gonna use the paint tool anymore for now. it's just not worth it if this keeps happening.

It only happens when i turn off my PS3 then restart it.

Yeah i still use it cause i can't help myself but i do make backups of my pics and stickers in a separate level so i can just copy them when needed. Lets hope MM fix this issue soon though as it is not good for the move kits sales as half the people who want it want it to create their own stickers.

And hopefully when they do fix it all the stickers we have made now will be editable again.

I do know one thing, I plan on having a new method of building levels with stickers that works around this problem and the problem of placing stickers to begin with. Still, this is a ridiculous bug especially when it affects casual art you'd want to bring up later to show off.2011-09-19 03:20:00

(Crying) Nooooooooo, I was creating my Super sticker for MMP contest and now... I can't load them. But I can use a flower sticker I made in the first move day! They must fix this soon. I need to finish my entry for this contest, it is a chance I have to finally grab the crown. Hey MM, fix the tool !!! Another detail, I edited the stickers many times and frequently saved them to don't lose them. Please, I need to finish my sticker, I took 1:36 hours to make one piece of the sticker (yeah, painting with move is a little hard)2011-09-21 03:09:00

Hmmm I'm sitting at 25mb.... I have only made two stickers at the moment but they are still working after a re-boot. In the past I have had objects do this when I try to use them. It greys out and after a few seconds an exclamation pops up. It's never been permanent though I can just left the popit and then re-opened it. All was fine.

I would suggest that if it does happen not to delete it... For now, anyway.

I'm wondering if this could be related to having 2 different "My Paintings" categories. If you have photobooth photos in your popit, your paintings may be split into 2 categories. Has anyone affected got any photobooth photos saved in their profile? Maybe deleting them could help prevent your paintings from 'expiring'.2011-09-22 00:26:00

I've lost all faith in them/Sony tbh. The block on DLC and photos alone would've been enough for me to reconsider (Had they bothered to mention it!) forking out ?50 on a Move controller, but now this? Pretty shocking tbh.

Well we've finally had a response from QA on Get Satisfaction (http://gsfn.us/t/2fmzv), so best do as they say.

QA_Molecule (Official Rep) 2 hours ago
Hello,

Sorry about not getting anything up on here sooner, there was some confusion as to who in our QA team had actually replied! Turns out no one had...(o_o;

It would be great if anyone experiencing this issue pleased backed up their profile and sent us a copy. This will allow us to see what is actually 'corrupt' and then hopefully fix the issue!

Here are instructions

Directions (based on Hiro's cleaned up version) on how to send us a back up of your profile. :

You will need;
- A USB Flash Drive
- A personal computer with an Internet connection
- Software that can zip (Windows explorer can do this using Send To)

Backing up your profile;
1) Start LBP2.
2) In pod, press the START button then select Settings -> Profile.
3) Select Back Up Profile -> New Saved Data.
4) When this is completed sucessfully, please quit the game.

Transfer to PC;
To transfer a Save Game from a PS3 to a PC you need to put it onto a memory stick.
1) Put the memory stick into the PS3.
2) Go to the "Game" section of the XMB and select the "Save Data Utility (PS3)" folder.
3) Highlight the newly created profile (it should be at the top of the list) and press the triangle button
4) Select "Copy" and choose the memory stick. This will copy the profile to the memory stick.
5) Make sure the data is finished writing to the flash drive.
6) Insert the memory stick into your computer, access the memory stick and the folder that contains your profile will be found in XS3SAVEDATA. There will be a folder withing this named something similar to "BCUS98245PROFILE4D45F94B".
7) Please zip this entire folder and attach it to an email. It must be zipped or it will not be possible to attach the whole file.
8) Address the email to hello@mediamolecule.com. The subject should be: "BUG: Corrupt Move Paint Stickers".

Thank you for the help,

QA

I've found what I believe to be a temporary fix 'till MM fix it with an update!
After making a sticker. The first thing you need to do. Before even closing popit. Is press square on the sticker and select upload. NOTE: It's UPLOAD. Not export or share
I believe this works as I made 6 stickers on move release. 5 of which I didn't upload one I accidentally did because as i was changing the name, my controller decided to move the selector down to upload as I pressed X. The 5 I didn't upload became corrupted. The one I did has yet to become corrupt. And I've used it today!

To double check this. I made 2 terrible photos:
A white scribble
A red scribble.
I've uploaded the red one, but not the white one. Neither have corrupted, but I'll edit this when one does
Hope this helps, X-tetris-X

After learning you could use stickers as a tool to make straight lines, I made the letter "A". This was made of a sticker I made, which was just a rectangle, so it was solely made of one of my own stickers. I made two "A"s and both of them...along with the sticker I used to make them...corrupted, the next day. So then I made another sticker, solely with the Paint tools, it still works 2 days later. So what I'm thinking is it might be something to do with using stickers.

Although, you can still export them to your HDD, they don't work...they look like they're going to work, but they don't. It says it's zoomed out 1000%, so something is going on...obviously

Interesting. If that works, then perhaps just naming it will also. I shall experiment next time I'm on.

Don't think so. I had several corrupt which had no stickers.

Great i shall test this later after work. Also have you tried to upload the corrupted ones now? you never know it might fix them. I doubt it though.

Seen as this is still still sticker-related, I'd like to ask about another issue in this thread.

I don't understand it - A week ago, I was using Front View in a dark level, taking photos of Neon (40% brightness) text and logos for use in my levels. No issues, they all looked great and I was very happy. But today, I needed some new ones, and tried the exact same thing and all of a sudden, half the stickers I take have this odd pixelated/blocky look to them. Where 2 bright colours meet, my previously clearly-defined lines, are now ugly as hell and all jagged.
It seems to be since I got the Move DLC. It seems to me, the Move DLC is screwing over all stickers, not just corrupting Painted stickers.

For the sake of an argument - I've tried using other materials aswell just to see the effects, and it seems to work with any light material. (Sticker Panel, Holo, Neon, etc)
Smaller photos seem to have less distortion, but it's always present.
I'll see if I can post an example later on. Perhaps re-take a previously clean photo to compare new photos to old ones.

I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this, as I want to see if there are other people aware of this, before I go posting on Get Satisfaction or whatever.

@Ostler5000 - I can't say i have seen this happen yet. Most of the pictures i have taken since the move DLC seem fine to me. Then again i haven't taken one of real bright colours or neons yet.2011-09-22 22:54:00

I just did a little more experimenting. I was wrong about Move DLC being related, as judging by what I just worked out, it must've always happened.

Previously, I was taking photos of similar colours on jet black BGs. But only today, did I try to take pictures of differing colours on top of each other.
It's still a bug with the way photos work. (To demonstrate, try using a font to spell something, make it out of Neon, 40% brightness, and make it cyan. And then make the background out of another bit of 40% bright neon. Make it red for a horrid result, then take a photo and puke at the result.) but not as relevant to the thread as I initially thought.
I thought the Move DLC must've changed something fundamental in the way images are saved or something, but I must've been mistaken.
Not sure if it's worth posting on Get Satisfaction if nobody else appears to be aware of it.

Like this...

...rather than than this...

http://i5.lbp.me/img/fm/b452edd2cdf07fb67d627d062f1cd94e5632e170.png

...?

I noticed this the other day. The stickers when used in-game look like the top image, but when exported look like the bottom one.

Could be the result of a JPEG compression with a very low quality setting, but it could also be some oddity of vertex remapping at different scales. Didn't spend much time looking into it, TBH.

Probably because the very last minute removed the ability to use DLCs and custom photo in paint, removing God knows what else from the code???

I noticed the blocking artifacts with my two paintings, but haven't taken any photos since I got the pack. Unfortunately this is due to compression, since the artifacts remain in my exported paintings (see my post in the "Show us your Paintings!" thread). It's highly unlikely the texture is being rendered in 3D space before exporting to JPG.2011-09-23 16:13:00

Yesterday, I checked if any other non-paint stickers had become corrupted. I found that some of the older photos I'd taken back in LBP1 were corrupted. I deleted all of the old LBP1 camera photos (which are lower resolution), and also deleted all community photos. Another thing I did was sort my pictures, by pressing square on a category, and selecting 'newest'.

The test paintings I made yesterday haven't corrupted yet. Maybe the presence of LBP1 photos wasn't tested in QA, or maybe the corrupted LBP1 pics were viral, infecting the paintings.

Just to answer Crashdance's question from a few pages back, this bug wasn't in the beta, so us beta testers had no way of knowing that a bug like this could occur. Maybe if Mm had actually updated the beta instead of just leaving us with version 1.00, this issue would have been ironed out.2011-09-23 18:56:00

I tried to reduce file size (start while painting, set size to small instead of big). Don't know if it worked, but I have 2 problems

#1 if you set your avatar to a painting, it won't show in LBP1 and you get a pretty ugly (!) icon.
#2 the paint tool disappeared from my popit!
#3 (oh, yeah, I said 2... whatever) I made an alphabet in paintings, it took hours. Now it's gone. AAAAARG.

I think there's something to the sharing.
The mona lisa head sticker I made is the only sticker I sent to someone and the only sticker to not corrupt on me.. every sticker before and after it have corrupted.
Only the version that I sent didnt corrupt, I have previous saves of it which are pretty much the same sticker and they corrupted.

I'm starting to think old LBP1 photos could be causing the corruption. I still haven't had any corrupted paintings since I deleted all my old LBP1 photos a few days ago.

Do any of you guys with corrupted paintings have any LBP1 photos in your profile? Try deleting them, and see if that prevents corruption.

I don't have time to read the other peoples posts so I don't know if this had already been said but go to an empty level before you make you paintings and put them on a piece of material or in a prize bubble and save the level. Whenever you decide to paint, go to that level and do the same process. The level could be your Sticker Storage !2011-09-27 07:36:00

I'm quite annoyed. As i've made a few paaintings that i were going to merge together for one big masterpiece to enter the MMP competitoon. Now they have corupted! so im going to recreate them whitch is time consuming, when i ccould be making other details to the painting im hoping to make > i'm not happy. MM should have tested for this in the beta...2011-09-27 22:44:00

Welp, it doesn't seem to be LBP1 photos that are causing the problem. My paintings have become corrupted again >

They only became corrupted once I'd collected some community photos.

Just make an account and send them to that account; shared photos cannot corrupt2011-09-28 02:06:00

Just curious if anyone sent their profiles to Mm as was requested?

I have corrupted photos. But they work fine in a stage (and look AWESOME).

AHA! SUCCESS
In my last post i mentioned 2 stickers
Pink scribble - shared
Blue scribble - Not shared
The blue scribble has failed horribly and corrupted. The pink is still living strong!
So i guess we'll have to give our stickers to mates who we trust wont steal them
