Major BUG! My Christmas level fails to load

Archive: 37 posts

So I finally finished my Christmas level today. Spent all day every day for the past 4 days working on it. I play tested it with some friends and once they left, I tried to get back in to tweak the difficulty on a single last part (LAST THING I NEEDED TO DO) and now it says Failed to Load when I try to play or edit it. I will try again tomorrow morning, but I tried everything tonight, shut it down, turned off my connection, everything!!! and it's just not opening.

Anybody had this happen to them. Is all hope lost? Is there a solution?

EDIT: This bug is happening on my moon, so it is unpublished and not backed up (I was about to do it )

- KAPBAM *in distress*

EDIT 2:

Hey HOLD on a sec... I just realised something. My level got "blocked" (the failed to load message) after playing it with 2 guys (from 1 PS3) online. So they come over to my moon, play my level called HO HO... CRAP! and a couple minutes later (enough time to get feedback) it is unplayable. Could my level on my moon have been MODERATED?????! I've read of this happening. The word CRAP could be a trigger! If you've ever played my levels, you know I stay away from the offensive stuff, and look at my name on here, it's not red for nothing! I would be both relieved and shocked to find this to be true: Relieved cause it could possibly be unblocked, shocked for obvious reasons.

First time I have heard of this. Maybe there was a server problem at the exact moment you tried to access the level? That really is the only reason I can think of. They may be doing server maintenance in preparation for the release of the MGS pack.2008-12-23 07:53:00

No this was on my moon. I should have specified... Meaning if this bug persists, my level is gone, finished, unrecoverable! And I tried several times even with the internet disconnected.

I am so sorry my fellow Canuck, I wish I could help you more. If I find out anything I will let you know but if it's all lost then take solace in the fact that soon you will have some METAL GEAR ACTION! (OK, I know you probably don't give a **** about that right now lol, sorry).2008-12-23 08:00:00

Did you Quit while it was loading or something? Or any of your friends? The data might be corrupt. It's never happened to me, but it's the only thing that makes sense.2008-12-23 08:05:00

On that note I would suggest publishing your level LOCKED after each new update you make to it so that if you ever have this problem again you can copy the level back to your moon, nothing lost (that's what I do).

the two guys that helped me test it went offline (many minutes after exiting the level) and it lagged pretty bad as it happened, very probably the source of the problem.

I think it's the servers, because I went to play Voltiare's Shipwreck Test, so I enter, and the screen just froze for several seconds, maybe 10-20 seconds, in a white screen. Then I spawned, same thing happened after I beat the level, just froze in a white screen waiting for my guy to appear from the sky in my pod.

I know it's in your Moon, but still.

I made a thread on the same thing (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6312) a few hours ago. I feel your pain. I emailed Mm to see if they could help but I doubt I'll get a response. I really don't want to have to start again. 2008-12-23 11:22:00

Well I guess it's not just me then. Just read your thread. Now think how you feel after loosing 10 hours of work, think how I feel now after having lost a good 60 hours (or more) over the past 4-6 days (I'm not even sure!) and a completed level. Let me know if you get a response from Mm, I will be sure to send a message as well. Where did you email it?2008-12-23 16:05:00

To hello@mediamolecule.com

I'm not sure if it's even active anymore.

60 hours is rough. As Kratos said, I'm going to keep a copy of my levels locked online from now on.

Yea, that's definitely the best solution. I was just working so hard with my goal of publishing it latest by today (hah!) that I completely bypassed all the things I could have done to save it. I sure as hell should have saved a copy once I knew I was pretty much done.

That's a pretty good idea, thanks kratos

OT: Wow, 60 hours working on it and then it fails you?
Man, i'd be ****** and not play LBP for a few days

Haven't read through all the replies, but have you tried copying the level to another part of the moon?

And try overwriting an empty level with it.. Sounds stupid, but it might trick the system into loading it..

And, copy it, then copy your savedata over to another account on your PS3, so if it ever happens again, you have the backed up one or whatever.

Yeah I tried it with my level and when it loads it just comes up blank. :/

Yeap, tried copying it, tried publishing, tried saying OK to when a message pops up telling me it may be because I need to clean my pod (this is new from this morning btw, this message did not pop up last night) and nothing works, in some cases it causes my system to freeze. I've basically tried all the standard stuff. Hoping for a solution I haven't thought of, but so far no luck

And yea @ Oldage. I'm in a bit (understated) of a bad mood concerning the situation.

EDIT:

Yea that's what happened to me to in that case.

How about trying to go into another level, store everything in your popit that you want, then completely clean your popit of EVERYTHING.

Then reset your pod.

Save.

Copy data onto another account, then try access it on that account.

If it's still not working, delete your game data (not save data), and try reinstalling it?

Huh, that's not a bad idea to try... I don't loose anything by deleting my game data do I? (after reinstalling it I mean of course)

As long as your save data doesn't get automatically get deleted with it, which it shouldn't.

They said that you'd be given a reason if your level got modded. I doubt it was.

My first thought is that you are right, but:

SCEA Marketing Manager Mark Valledor has shared the second LittleBigPlanet for PlayStation 3 "Sack It To Me" Community Update as follows:

[...]

Failed to load level
Several of you have gotten this message when playing online. This is one of the things on our list, wanted to provide some insight on the message.

The ?Failed to Load Level? message happens in two basic situations - firstly, if latency or server conditions result in a time out before the level completes loading, and secondly, if you?re trying to access a level that has been moderated. Assuming that you haven?t received a moderation notice, it might well be worth trying again as it could have been a temporary issue causing the inability to load.

Ok so assuming doesn't reasure me that this isn't the case. Has anyone here ever been moderated and gotten said message?

Yes but they also said that you'd have a chance to rectify your level on your moon.

But could the problem be that the level was moderated on my moon, causing a glitch of sorts? I wouldn't rule it out, it's not like everything is running smoothly yet in LBP.

And @ Whaaaaale, thanks I appreciate the sympathy. Just wish I had a solution

Yeah possibly. I have a feeling that we're not going to get a solution.

Probably not. Not right now anyway. I sent a message to Mm via the same hello@ email as you. Hopefully one of us will get an answer, but given the holidays, I doubt that will happen too soon. Hey is this gets solved after all, you guys can enjoy my Christmas level in February >_>

Alas and alack, I to am currently suffering from this bug. I got my (first!) level to the point where I'm willing to suffer the slings and arrows of the community, and was about to publish it just this morn. I went for a last play-through just to make sure there weren't any glaring errors, and it wouldn't load. I could not edit it, nor play it. I could not move it or save a copy. It is in a state of limbo at this point, and I'm left with nothing to do but start over (and probably do it better anyway ;-), or start a completely new level and hope that one day the corrupted (if that's what it is) one somehow gets fixed.
I will admit that although I spent many hours on it, I wasn't terribly happy with it, but I DID want to publish it, if only to get some feedback on it (other than <3-4-<3! ;-)
I'll be looking forward to replies on this topic.

I feel your pain man. I get the feeling if this glitch ever gets resolved, our levels have slim chance of being recovered. I however have every intention to harrass Sony and Mm until I get it fixed, so if it's unfixable, I'll be getting to know them all on a first name basis for the rest of the PS3's lifecycle!

It'll go something like this:

Hey Erik (yep that's my name), so calling about your level?

- You know it.

Well still no fix but I know you're going to tell me the problem and ask for a solution anyway...

- Indeed. *proceeds with weekly repetition of same problem*

That happened to me. It was annoying, because I was making the final touches on it and was just about to publish it. I couldn't play it, edit it, or publish it! For a couple of days it was always the same no matter what I tried

And yet for some reason, I never had the guts to delete it. I just spent too much time on it. And many months later, I tried edditing it again, completely doubting it would work, and to my ssurprise it worked !

My theory is that because of the many updates, MM must have fixed some glitch that was keeping my level from loading. I hope this helps you. Don't give up! Maybe a few updates from now, you might be able to edit your level. (I hope so)
