Snake Bite

Archive: 16 posts

So a couple of weeks ago I was stung by a scorpion 3 times. My brother and I are fairly competitive so to one up me, he was bit by a Copperhead snake last night. He was out walking the dogs and one went to go under a bush and my brother saw the snake and reached down to get the dog and the snake bit him on the left hand. His wife got him to the emergency room and they immediately took him to ICU and began the anti-venom treatment. We were worried because the anti-venom can sometimes have dire side effects. But I'm happy to say that he is doing better this morning, but still in extreme pain. There will be some, hopefully temporary, tissue and muscle damage. If you've never seen a copperhead, here you go.

We have them here where I live and see them once in awhile around the house. I have some outside cats that help curtail the snake activity, but still have to be careful (I live in the sticks)

Glad to hear your brother will be ok. Copperheads can be nasty. We used to own 30 acres in the country and there were copperheads there. One day Rick went out to clear some of the property. He moved some lumber and unearthed a bed of about 50 babies and the parent which immediately started to chase Rick. I was watching from the porch and never laughed so hard in all my life. Not that he was being chased but the way it looked. It was like one of those old cartoons, he jumped straight up in the air, legs running at 100 mph and not going anywhere. When he landed he swerved every way he could but that snake kept coming. He finally out ran it but it chased him a good 30 ft. He can laugh about it now. 2011-09-17 16:37:00

Phew - the most dangerous animal we Scot's have to contend with is Alcoholics; not as venomous, but they do have a nasty bite 2011-09-17 17:44:00

Yeah these fires are horrendous, the biggest one here has burned about 40 thousand acres and burned 1,700 homes and it's still not out yet

That's hilarious! I came across a nest of water moccasins one day. They were out in the water about 10 feet from shore and were in the mating cycle. It's just a massive ball of snakes, this one was about a 4 foot diameter ball of snakes. Looked freaky, like something out of a Stephen King movie

ROFL, That was so funny it made me snort! I don't ever "snort" when I laugh. That was a good one Mac, thanks.

Yyyyeaaaahhh... I don't know about you but that's not the kind of competitions I have with my brother. Lol.

But nevertheless, I wish he makes a quick and successful recovery.

LOL, he's at home now. the swelling has gone down considerably but the pain is still pretty high. He has full range of motion in his fingers and hand, so that's good. He's a gamer and a guitar player and the doctors were saying there could be some severe nerve and muscle damage. They said he'll probably still have to do some physical therapy though.
Thanks for all the well wishes everyone.

So Texas is infestated with these snakes, and one bite is enough to do such nerve and muscle damage that you'll need therapy to heal them completely?2011-09-19 14:15:00

a yup. but I wouldn't say "infested." In the 13 yrs that I've been in this town, I've only seen maybe 4. Now I've some other stuff that you don't want to tangle with either. Mountain lions, rattlesnakes, My wife when the a/c breaks, brown recluse spiders, etc.

Here's where you can find copperheads
