DLC and In-Game Photos Blocked in Paint
Archive: 34 posts
Figured I'd start a new thread to avoid Shadowriver's Show-us-your-Paintings! (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=63261-Show-us-your-Paintings!) getting taken over completely. For those of you who don't already know, due to a last minute change we're now unable to edit user generated images taken with the in-game camera or DLC stickers in Paint. Pretty gutted about this. Any hopes of creating our own transparent stickers with the yummy in-game textures have been well and truly quashed. So close... EDIT: If you would like to see it re-implemented in a secure fashion, you can go give this suggestion (http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/the_ability_to_use_dlc_stickers_or_photos_taken_wi th_the_in_game_photo_tool_in_conjunction_with_move _paint) your support. | 2011-09-16 08:42:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |
Yeah. I hope at least them taking out "A photo" pics was a mistake. As them have nothing to do with DLC. (o.O) there's no way you could steal DLC stickers using in game taken photos as it'd ruin the sticker from looking as good and it now would have A horrible BG that be crazy hard to edit off. *mew So they really should add "A photo" option back IMO. I mostly was looking forward to this paint tool to edit off some things on my costume stickers... and now I can't do that. :/ *mew | 2011-09-16 09:20:00 Author: Lord-Dreamerz Posts: 4261 |
Very strange how i was NOT affected by this I was trying to make a Spaff custom picture and had no problem but when my friend tried to do it he couldn't, even when i tried sending him the photo and when i tried guiding him to find it (at first i thought he didn't know where he was looking) | 2011-09-16 10:51:00 Author: JKthree Posts: 1125 |
Not being able to use photos is very strange when you are able to use community camera snaps. | 2011-09-16 11:01:00 Author: Det Posts: 37 |
community camera snaps. I'm not able to use community camera snaps myself... | 2011-09-16 11:06:00 Author: Lord-Dreamerz Posts: 4261 |
I'm not able to use community camera snaps myself... I couldn't use Community Photos either. Maybe it's something to do with the region.. EU here. | 2011-09-16 11:09:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |
I couldn't use Community Photos either. Maybe it's something to do with the region.. EU here. I'm NA. and I don't think it's region problem. I think he is maybe mixing up community photos with the other community photos slot from the GOTY LBP1. any photos from GOTY levels will be put in to their own community photos slot that is not the normal one. *mew | 2011-09-16 11:14:00 Author: Lord-Dreamerz Posts: 4261 |

They are pictures that other creators have taken using the Playstation Eye and put in prize bubbles. I am not referring to screen shots taken of in-game content. | 2011-09-16 11:30:00 Author: Det Posts: 37 |
Sadly by the look of the QA-reply, it wasn't a mistake. It is simply the usual quick and dirty solution to prevent a potential issue But if you would like to see it re-implemented in a secure fashion, you can go give this suggestion (http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/the_ability_to_use_dlc_stickers_or_photos_taken_wi th_the_in_game_photo_tool_in_conjunction_with_move _paint) your support | 2011-09-16 11:46:00 Author: Slaeden-Bob Posts: 605 |

The ability to use DLC stickers or Photos taken with the in-game Photo tool in conjunction with Move Paint, has been removed in the retail version of LBP Move Pack due to the potential risk of sticker sharing. I propose the re-implementation of this feature with the following modification: Make the custom sticker unshareable by default if a photo or DLC sticker is used at any point to create it. The good old Community Object Lock-icon could be used to symbolise this. The fresh custom sticker should retain the unshareable-status so it cannot be re-used in another custom sticker to bypass the block. If you support this idea, you can go to getsatisfaction (http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/the_ability_to_use_dlc_stickers_or_photos_taken_wi th_the_in_game_photo_tool_in_conjunction_with_move _paint) and chime in as well | 2011-09-16 11:51:00 Author: Slaeden-Bob Posts: 605 |
Haha, I was just about to post a topic about this. This is a fricken huge disappointment! They removed the one thing, THE ONE THING I wanted the paint tool for! Unbelievable! I'm no artist. I can't even draw a straight line with it. I can only create images in create mode. I was DEPENDING on the ability to load in game photos so I could use paint mode to remove the background. Now it's pretty much useless to me. I didn't even realize we couldn't use dlc stickers. WTF? Does that include stickers from the move pack too? | 2011-09-16 12:16:00 Author: Reef1978 Posts: 527 |
Yeah i was very disapointed at this as i wanted to make a trailer for one of my levels so needed to use pics i had taken of that level. Very upsetting. One problem i have had today is that stickers i made yesterday out of MM stickers and plain paint tools now don't work. Yesterday they worked fine and i could use them anywhere now they come up with a little red symbole in the bottom right hand corner and i can't open them in paint or place them anywhere. I spent ages on them making fancy intricate backgrounds for my BOT project. Luckily i have some that i had placed in level already so i can just copy and past them. But i have no idea why they now don't work. Has anyone else had this problem yet? Yeah dosen't look like we can use the move pack stickers either. | 2011-09-16 12:22:00 Author: Lordwarblade Posts: 761 |
The paint tool was never good at making custom stickers, i'd admit that. Even if you did have photos stickers enabled there's no way you could erase all the excess to make it a nice cutout, for example place a sticker with a lot of corners on a coloured background and then try to erase the background, it's time consuming and looks very shoddy. The quality of captured object thumbnails were also very poor meaning nice cutouts were possible but didn't look that great. We just need a sticker creation tool, maybe using precise movements of a stick. | 2011-09-16 12:47:00 Author: PPp_Killer Posts: 449 |

You're doing it wrong lol. Don't try and draw around the shape with the eraser, slowly chomp bits off. | 2011-09-16 13:00:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |
hmmm isnt alpha background half transparent with gameplay camera, this coul be used as templery solution | 2011-09-16 13:27:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
hmmm isnt alpha background half transparent with gameplay camera, this coul be used as templery solution Hmmm, can you please elaborate? I don't really understand what you're getting at tbqh On-Topic: ...I wasn't getting the Move anyway, but this sucks. I was only hoping to ever use this to cut out the backgrounds of photos to make real, legit stickers instead of photos, but ah well, back to cutouts for now... | 2011-09-16 14:41:00 Author: Fang Posts: 578 |
This made me really mad. I'm AWFUL at drawing with the paint tool, and all I wanted to use it for was to make stickers of my objects. Now all I can do is just take PS Eye photos and erase the background, and that isn't too easy. | 2011-09-16 14:48:00 Author: lemurboy12 Posts: 842 |
All I really wanted to do was turn some object text into sticker text. When I saw you could bring materials, decorations, and objects in I thought that was cool, but then you can't bring in custom objects. "No problem!" I thought. "I'll just take pictures of the letters, bring those pictures into the paint tool, and erase everything not needed!" ... "What?!?!?!?!? I can sort of understand not bringing in custom objects, but we can't bring custom stickers into a paint tool!?!?!" Bah. I suck at using the Move to paint with as well. I mean, the oblong brush gives it a cool calligraphy effect when using it for text, but with my skills it still looks very sloppy. | 2011-09-16 17:29:00 Author: Unknown User |
I can bet you right now someone, somewhere, is making alphabets in the paint tool for everyone. You could just make whatever effects you want in paint then put those stickers on top of your in-game pics.. | 2011-09-16 17:50:00 Author: Bremnen Posts: 1800 |

Why couldn't MM just make the stickers unobtainable for people who don't have the DLC? They've done it with the objects. | 2011-09-16 20:47:00 Author: TheUltraDeino Posts: 1274 |
From other 'ticket'... I'm sorry to say that this feature was disabled on purpose. I'm unable to go into too much detail, but it is related to DLC ownership. That's a shame. If it were just an oversight, it'd be an easy fix, but implementing non-sharable paintings, or DLC-tagging on stickers/paintings will be non-trivial. So, yeah. This'll probably never happen. :/ Edit: just merged two near-identical threads | 2011-09-17 02:50:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |

I'm still really stumped at why on earth photos taken with the in-game camera would even need to be unshareable, when you consider what we're already able to do with them. It doesn't make any sense. | 2011-09-17 07:53:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |
It doesn't make any sense. I agree. Tricky bit is convincing Sony/MM/whoever that either... the resolution of in-game photos is so poor that a photo of a DLC sticker in a painting really ain't gonna lose them any DLC sales revenues. it's worthwhile spending the money on implementing some other solution, rather than on some new DLC they can make an easy return on. ...and if I were the chief beancounter for LBP-related sales revenues, I'd probably be just as sceptical. | 2011-09-17 12:10:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |

I know what you're saying, but it's the fact that we can already take photos of DLC and use them in our levels that has me stumped. Not to mention all the Copyright material available on the internet we can snap up with our PS3Eyes. I can only assume the people making these decisions don't actually know anything about the game. | 2011-09-17 12:57:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |

Yesterday they worked fine and i could use them anywhere now they come up with a little red symbole in the bottom right hand corner [...] Has anyone else had this problem yet? Just happened to me - one of my 6 paintings now refuses to load. Didn't include any MM stickers, just the word "foo" written in a green brush. Tried it offline to check it wasn't just a modcheck fail, but it didn't help. So, since this isn't an isolated fault, I guess it's worth a warning to others to put any paintings you care about into prize bubbles, and keep 'em in a storage level. | 2011-09-17 18:22:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |

So, since this isn't an isolated fault, I guess it's worth a warning to others to put any paintings you care about into prize bubbles, and keep 'em in a storage level. Having the same issue. All I did was a feeble attempt at making some text (I find using the paint tool to be difficult, though I guess with practice I'll get better) to use as stickers on the sticker panel material for my title screen. Now none of the letters are loading. Makes me wish I had a sticker panel with all of them on it so I could just copy/paste instead of using the pop-it all the time. Annoying. Oh well, time for more of that practice I mentioned... | 2011-09-17 21:29:00 Author: Unknown User |
Cant they just make it so that if you take a picture of a dlc sticker, that pic is unuseable in paint tool? Anyone who is half decent with paint tool can go in and make any dlc sticker they want.. | 2011-09-18 18:25:00 Author: Bremnen Posts: 1800 |
I don't understand it myself really as if i wanted to give a sticker of DLC content to anyone else all i have to do is take a photo of it place it on the sticker material and cut it to shape. I just tried it and its definitely usable. So why stop us opening and editing in game photos in the paint tool when we can do the same thing with the sticker material. I don't understand their issue with this as the quality of the custom sticker would be the same as the photo stuck on material and cut out. | 2011-09-18 19:53:00 Author: Lordwarblade Posts: 761 |
Here are the photos i took of DLC stickers then placed them on the new sticker material. The bottom stickers are the real stickers the top ones are photos on material cut to shape. I could give these to anyone as a prize right now and they could use them as they wished in their levels as long as they didn't remove the sticker from the material. If they did remove it it would be the DLC sticker on a black rectangle background. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=36962 This took me five minutes and the outcome isn't any different then what people could make with the paint tool anyway. So by denying us the right to use custom photos in the paint tool they haven't really prevented the issue. Sure the stickers on material can't be used to wrap around things but they can still be used for signs and on walls etc. Which is what those particular stickers would be used for anyway. | 2011-09-18 20:21:00 Author: Lordwarblade Posts: 761 |
Cool, thanks. I just posted this on GS too as it's a bit easier to understand. Fingers crossed they don't go and remove the camera tool instead. | 2011-09-19 09:51:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |
Hi everyone I created a post here with any idea to restore the pictures in the game, and hoping that MM gives us provide what we need, you are free to participate. http://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/paint_ingame_dlc_stickers_perhaps_a_solution | 2011-09-24 07:35:00 Author: Unknown User |
