It's as tough as nails and atm the default setting of the defending is ridiculous.

I'd rather play this demo than PES though.

You obviously haven't tried PES 2012, and probably have something against PES in general - is fanboy the correct word here? I've played FIFA the last 4 or 5 iterations because it has been better, but it has constantly tried to make itself a realistic simulation of football, and that's boring. NHL and NFL (both of which are better games and better sports in general) work on a realistic level because there is more action. I have a football simulator in football manager, I don't need another. Football is fun when you score awesome goals, and can make great passing moves, etc, something that PES finally allows you to do again, while FIFA ends up consisting of scrappy games in most cases.

And don't call me a fanboy, I've played FIFA over PES for ages, I've played both demos... PES is better.

I prefer realism to cartoonish-shaolin-soccer-esque-goal-a-minute-what-a-goal-from-Manchester-Red-games.

And I have played both demos, and FIFA's better.

Cartoonish? PES looks more realistic that FIFA.
Goal-a-minute? Hardly. However, it's near impossible to just run past a player, as is easy to do in FIFA. You have to pass it around a lot more. Which, funnily enough, is more realistic.
Manchester Red? Hardly an argument you can use, given that it is only like that because EA bought out the license. Maybe you're just one of those people who can't cope with the incorrect names, despite knowing full-well what each team is, and therefore pass up superior gameplay for presentation.

I know a lot of people who swear by FIFA year upon year, and yet even they agree that the FIFA demo is poor, and that PES is a better game.

Hmm... FIFA 12. I played 11, and I enjoyed it a bit, but it's not my cup of tea. I have heard about PES though, yet I'm not sure if it's worth it...:

Intredasting....

It seems two members are arguing on which game is better. Now who's side do I agree on? So many factors here in play:

Alex
-He's a respectable member of the community (to an extent).
-His sig clearly displays he has played some pretty good games.
-He has a good Steam rating.
-His argument has many points and he knows what he's talking about.
-He drinks Jack Daniels.

Keanster
-Never seen him in my life.
-His arguments are usually one sentence.
-The only game I know he plays is Minecraft.
-He's 14 years old.

Man is this a hard decision. Any thoughts, guys?

Well thanks for those kind words Cybersora, I tried not to be a whiny ***** about this but it seems I have failed miserably.
I apologise for that.
I was mainly agreeing with Alex that FIFA is generally more realistic/simulative/w/e you want to call it, and if I came off harshly it was because I was.. angered by the label of "fanboy" to put it lightly.
Look, I simply prefer FIFA's style of gameplay, and while I agree PES has its merits, most all of my mates prefer FIFA, so for me the community it better. Perhaps I'm biased. I try not to be, I did download both the PES and FIFA demos, and have purchased both games in the past, at many points preferring the PES series overall. But I think where PES is basically the same game as it was last year, FIFA has taken a step in a more realistic direction, with the addition of an impact engine and realistic tactical defending (as annoying as it can sometimes be).
I'm sorry my opinion is not the same as yours.

Though I'm not 14, and I hardly see how never hearing of me before is relevant. Also judging by the thread and the actual forum, Minecraft is not the only game I play, though I don't see how that was relevant either.
(But I get your point)

But arguing on the internet is pointless. I could bring up the "special olympics" quote but you've probably heard it before.

So thank you all, I'm going to back out of this thread now. Consider this long winded rambling post my apology to the internets.

EDIT: In fact, I take the PES not changing thing back. It has improved a great deal. I much preferred this demo to the last but I still felt it was a tad clunky, even with the new features and such.

But yeah, I'm going to leave the thread now.

To be fair you get called a fanboy on gaming forums if you so much as mention a rival game, so I wouldn't get too wound up about it

As I said though, all of my (football loving)mates played FIFA religiously, but this year prefer PES. I don't really see the point of the new FIFA impact system though, if I'm honest... I mean, it's nice and all, but in a game where the point is to avoid contact, why spend so much time on a feture that promotes it? I play NHL and NFL a lot more than football games these days, and they benefit from the new collisions engines, but I don't think FIFA really needs it

To be fair, your last point about PES feeling 'clunky' is true, but I quite like it - it feels... solid. Like a Mini Cooper S. Everything inside it is big and heavy-feeling. Some would call it clunky, I think it feels nice and solid

Hm...I used to play PES from PSOne era, when me and my friend imported Jykkyou Winning Eleven, like it was called back then.
And I should mention that in 2000 I won a tournament of PES (the prize was a Sega Dreamcast), just saying that I know and loved PES soooo much
Always loved PES, but lately it has been crap. Total crap. And Fifa was totally better in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
I still have to download Fifa 2012 demo, but I downloaded and played PES, and it's garbage.
Totally awful.
I found hard to believe that Fifa is worse.
Really hard...must download the demo.

If you think PES is garbage this year, FIFA will be a real shock for you...

I'll play something else.
I only buy soccer games on even years (useless to buy them every year especially because I don't play online), so I'll skip this year.
I don't give a hm...

But the impact system is what makes it so realistic. How else FIFA going to capture the realism of player injuries:

FIFA 12 is rubbish. PES is also rubbish.

This is basically the conclusion i have come to from playing both demos rigourously in order to decide which i wanna buy more.

In terms of which is actually a better game... well I would have to say PES (only by the slightest of fractions). I would like to think of myself as totally unbiased in this decision, I played PES games up until FIFA 9 came out (which is when FIFA became the better game IMO) and now I have been following the FIFA franchise. My friends on the other hand are all die-hard FIFA fanboys (proper ones not like keanster ). My dilemma is this, do I buy the fractionally better game on my own, or buy the one my friends are sure to get so I can play online and share good times with mates.

TBH even though I would like to give PES another go again I'm probably gonna get FIFA anyway.

tl;dr:
The two games are barely different enough for me to choose one on their merits, Im going with FIFA so I can play with my fanboy friends.

FIFA is obviously more realistic and I enjoy it more than PES. Simply because of the unrealistic moves, Its probably change now but PES players always used to only have 8 directions to run and their jump, skills etc look a bit off. Also it used to be easy Peasy.

Whereas by Fifa 25 we will be allowed to (wait for it)

PES 11 is one of the games I bought with my 3DS (hush, little ones) and it was a solid investment, I think.2011-09-23 10:41:00

Suddenly I feel like getting a new FIFA game for the first time since the original.

To be fair, I've played a few games on the full version (via the EA Season Ticket that I bought mainly for NHL and NFL) and it is quite good, especially compared to the demo. Still not sure whether I prefer it to PES though, although looking at the review scores on metacritic Fifa is apparently far superior...

I know a few people who are buying it, so it may be worth a punt. I'll probably end up buying both, if nothing else so that I can play as burnley...

Fifa has barely changed over the past 3/4 years. Everying from the gameplay, the look, even the flippin menus has hardly made a step forward. The chaps at EA know they can churn out the same rubbish every year, because the drones will still buy it because of all the pretty licenses.

I hate how in Fifa, everything has to have a proper official name. eg players bumping inot each other becomes (puts on a booming voice) "IMPACT ENGINE!!!"

I'm not saying PES is perfect, but it's the best of the two by far IMO.

It's garbage. PES is (finally) better again. A lot better.

Yep, though 2011 wasn't too bad. A step in the right direction but still had some major faults.

Fifa more realistic? Pfffft. This is the game where Doncaster Rovers can play as well as Barca. The players move way too fast and turn way too easily. Plus they all look like zombies.
