World of Warcraft 2011

Archive: 22 posts

Hey all! poorjack here, just wondering who on this forum plays World of Warcraft still in 2011? I picked it up back in 2005, and played a lot, but lapsed a little bit in between 07 and 11. But now I am back, and loving all the new features I missed out on! Who else here plays? I am currently playing a Lv 60 Human Death Knight on the Smolderthorn server. my name is Valtarprime. We should paly together some time!2011-09-12 18:37:00

I have a lv.85 Paladin (my main), a lv.85 Warrior, an 83 hunter, and countless lower alts that I frequent.

I also run a guild by the name of <ParadigmShift>, which is lv.24 (one more to go! ), has ~350 members, and resides in the Cenarius realm.

I also enjoy a lot of the new features. Blizzard has made the game much more accessible. However, there is still room for improvement. Take for instance the new guild recruitment feature, the Guild browser. As a guild master/officer, we can browse the list of players whom have a request to join the guild open and whisper/invite them, but without a simple indicator to tell us which of them are online at a glance, it becomes extremely tedious to sort through 35 people just to find out that none of them are even online.

Yeah, I just started a guild, and I have found the requests system fairly frustrating :|2011-09-12 19:20:00

I haven't played in 3 years :/ I think also did play for 3 years before then funnily enough I really did enjoy 2.5 of those years but the way the end game content works, not to mention just getting to it, eventually got to me. It just wasn't fun anymore. From what I've seen and heard, it seems to have gone down hill a bit and the game is losing subscribers by the thousands. Blizzard is already working on their next MMO though My money is on a SC MMO if you ask me. I don't know if I could ever get back in to WoW, now I have my eyes set on GW2! Hopefully it can renew my interests in MMOs :}2011-09-13 03:51:00

I highly doubt it would be World of Starcraft.

Then again, it is rumored to be a futuristic MMO.

I have a theory.. Maybe not for "titan" their next mmo, but for a future project once WoW drops in subscribers a lot more--- I call it "Warcraft Universe" Basically it is a sequel to the Warcraft series, because we have almost ran out of storyline in WoW, so I think the next expansion announced already ) will be the end of the world, and then Blizzard will of course want a sequel... I mean it is only common sense now. A new World of Warcraft. New story. New lands. New lore. I have also heard another rumor of "titan" being a post apocalyptic Warcraft mmo, set after the end of the world.2011-09-13 06:08:00

I played WoW craft for a while a few years ago,
But I didn't like the experience.
When it was just me and a few of my friends running around the place questing it was brilliant. But because me and my mates are Old Skool role-players, we decided to go against the grain.
For instance, I was playing a Priest - but not a "standard build" priest (of either Holy or Dark - I focussed primarily on Discipline). So I would always be asked along to raids - as they always need priests - but as soon as the fighting started I'd be getting shouted at by my own team with "Why aren't you casting *such & such* spell?" and I would say "I'm not that kind of priest";
People were trying to dictate to me (constantly) how to build and play my character - but it's MY character, it's MY money and I'll play it however I want.
So I would constantly get called a noob and told that I didn't know how to play the game - but they were soon shut up when challenged to a duel and defeated without even scratching me (a full discipline priest could be quite nasty when they wanted to be). I remember one guy said that I hadn't really won the duel because I was constantly using my sheild buff - and wanted to fight me again - but this time "No Sheilds". So I said "Ok - but you're not allowed to use any weapons" - of course he wouldn't agree to this

Then about 2 weeks after I reached lvl 60 (which was the lvl max back then) they completely respecced the priest class - and got rid of the type of priest character that I had built... so essentially had to make up an entirely new character .
That's when I decided to quit.
It's no fun having a bunch of idiots, who have no idea what kind of character you've built, telling you how to play the game (their way).

Still, The central hub of Ironforge is one of those things that all gamers should experience at least once. it is a sight to behold.

I would play again if I didn't feel the need to spend every single waking moment in that game. I had a nice Orcish Level 80 Enhancement Shammy, and I was pretty proud of the work I put into. Even had a fairly successful bank alt with a couple hundred thousand gold in the bank. My gf got into the game, and she soon had a level 80 NE Hunter running around Stormwind.

I had gotten all the way up and progressed to the highest level and started working on end-game. I soon learned that it was impossible to do unless I sunk every waking moment into that game. With a three year old kid, a full-time job, and alternating nights on the computer with my gf, it was impossible to get anywhere in the game. I couldn't make raids, couldn't progress, and pretty much spent my time trying to PUG it all. You can't get too far when you can only make half a raid once a week, and when you did get the rare opportunity to go, you went in undergeared and always lost the roll to someone else.

I quit right around the time when I bought my PS3, and never really looked back. Best investment I ever made. And it's also why I'm here.

I'd play an MMO again (SW:TOR is looking promising, but not sure my PC can handle it) but only if I knew I could be satisfied with the casual side of it all.

Kudos to all those peeps that still play, though... I wish I could be raiding with you all right now. Part of me still itches for that game.

My 85 balance druid and restoration shaman have been resting ever since February when I realised I had nothing to do without a guild. There is a serious lack of content now and that's why subs are dropping out. Didn't feel like it in TBC or WotLK. Don't get me wrong; Cataclysm is the best thing happened to WoW. I might resub when 4.3 comes out and maybe create a priest. I ****in' love healin'.2011-09-13 16:21:00

@Mac, yes! That is the one thing I don't like about the game is how... Uncreative some of the players are. I have a level 62 Death Knight. And I am always being yelled at for either A: Being in blood stance when I am not tanking, B: Causing too much damage to enemies, and thus being agro when I am not tanking, or C: Not knowing all the abbreviations for everything in the world. I am sorry, people. But this is a GAME. Get used to me not being a PROFESSIONAL.2011-09-13 20:10:00

Well unfortunately Ironforge is a ghost town now.

Being in blood stance when I am not tanking

That makes perfect sense, because being in Blood Presence forces everything you do to generate additional threat, so you would obviously pull off of the tank, and possibly wipe the group. You don't want to be blood unless you want to get beat down by mobs.

I remember the same exact situation at a lower level against a rogue midg-I mean gnome. It went on for so long because of my last-ability with my shield against his weak bursts of damage. Every time he got low he would run in to the inn and cower in the corner in stealth until like 1 full minute later I would be ambushed again and repeat the process. So in theory I had forced him to retreat ( might as well call it a win) like 5 times, but in the end he walked away thinking I was cheating by using shields and heals. In the end, it all comes down to the meta game and the standards. If you aren't playing exactly in a way that suites a bunch of strangers, you aren't worthy of seeing the best stuff the game has to offer. This is why GW2 has me, they claim they have thrown away the "Holy Trinity" and instead made it so you can play with who ever you want regardless of build and class. Instead of changing who you are playing with, you can just change the way you approach the situation. You don't need an appointed tank, healer, and dps.

I have never died in blood :| I have died several times in frost. I dont see the real problem with me pulling ONE enemy and letting the tank still do his job if I have good armor and can hold my own.

The only problem is there in theory, and in bureaucracy.

And if you use blood boil and pull the entire group instantly.

Problem with your quote-- I am not an idiot. I can take on maybe 3 or 4 enemies that are maybe 2-3 levels higher than me when I am in blood and use DnD. I know how to not pull an entire group or whatever.

There are no problems with my quote--I didn't say you would use blood boil, or that you are an idiot. My point was the tank doesn't know that--and if you did use it, you could wipe the whole group instantly. Sometimes the tank is just being cautious.

I understand being cautious, but there is a difference between being a careful dungeon delver, and being a total ***.2011-09-14 23:45:00

Unfortunately about 50% of all tanks suffer from a superiority complex, making most of them jerks.

Being a jerk is unnecessary, but I can understand why they might be a little annoyed at someone in blood presence.

It sure is crappy that GW is getting a sequel instead of WOW. I didn't like GW, but I heard they are doing away with traditional classes? It just wasn't interesting or special in any way. Wow has such a great art design and atmosphere and such rich lore... But it is filled with *** holes.2011-09-15 01:15:00
