Media Molecule broke the vertical 3D Cameras! Want them Back? [Project]

Archive: 20 posts

Hi sackpeople, my name is Codybean1, and I have a bone to pick with Media Molecule. If you are not already aware, Mm released 1.06 of LBP2 knowing that the 3D camera glitch would no longer work for the most part in peoples' levels. This, I believe, is an injustice to creators and players alike. Thousands of 3D levels exist already, including ones that were Mm picked like [http://lbp.me/v/z-4s8m]Overcharged 3D Racer[/http://lbp.me/v/z-4s8m] and the [http://lbp.me/v/0e851x][MERD] 3D FPS Trailer[/http://lbp.me/v/0e851x]. The update renders these levels unplayable and in the case of the Mm picked ones, taken from the official list and locked. I know it's a glitch, but it was incredably useful and shouldn't deserve the axe.

So guys, I'm letting my voice be heard. I'm making a copyable level describing all this and more. It's really good. You get to see the aftermath of the update by breifly playing my now-broken [http://lbp.me/v/y3fchk]Crash Bandicoot 3D Remake [/http://lbp.me/v/y3fchk]as well as enjoy a cinematic boss battle against... um... the update itself. It should be done in a week, and I'm wondering if you guys want to make your own levels like this? Media Molecule should give us a valid reason for this undeniable awful act.

A game advertised as having "limitless gameplay" on the back of the box shouldn't have features taken away from it! Agree? Disagree? Let everyone know!

I've found some levels where the 3D cam still works. For example: http://lbp.me/v/yx78cw
I'm guessing they patched the 3D glitch over because it was so buggy unless you were playing a level in which you could only move forward.
Maybe they've patched it over because they plan on making a legit 3D cam.

You should change the thread title, people might think you're talking about the 50 layer glitch. And I heard the camera wasn't really broken, it just required some effort on the existing levels to bring them in line with the new way it works?2011-09-12 16:08:00

I made a 3d cam and it survived the patch. Its the 3 camera "method", but it still cant rotate, and i really hope they do add a 3D cam with the other cameras.2011-09-12 16:39:00

Only those levels that require Local Area have been affected, others havent.2011-09-13 15:50:00

MM didn't break the 3D cameras on purpose. The 3D cameras before patch 1.06 were made to work around the Local Space rotating bug. MM fixed this bug in 1.06 which changed how the 3D cameras work.

There are still 3D cameras. It's just that all of the existing 3D cameras need to be replaced with new ones.

oh god were do i begin...
ok:

It isn't an injustice. If anything it is a justice to fix the local space bug (which a majority wanted fixed. Most of the cameras work so just chill.

They warned us about this quite a while before release of the patch. It's up to the creators to implement a fix and add in a new 3d cam (in your examples you only state SBG's levels, which i assume will be updated.

1: don't shamlessly advertise
2: it wasn't a feature, it was a glitch. A glich by definition is something that was never suppose to be there. Much like thack or 3d layer.

/facepalm

I was nearly scared to death when I read the title thread, assuming you meant the 3D layer glitch, when you mean the 3D camera glitch. Couldn't care less about this 2011-09-13 16:35:00

Wow I almost grew a gray hair reading this title. I thought he meant the layer glitch at first; that would have been a disaster. Im sure that will stay--at least I hope.2011-09-14 00:56:00

Yeah, change the title.. It's the 3D camera glitch, not the 3D layer glitch. Two different glitches entirely.2011-09-14 03:55:00

OBJECTION!

Firstly, your testimony is CLEARLY flawed. The defendant, Media Molecule, has not tampered at all with the 3D Layer Glitch, but rather the 3D Camera Glitch. You must change your testimony based on this information.

Secondly, as our witness a_mailbox has testified, the victim in question was undoubtedly a glitch. Therefore, no matter how useful it is, there is no denying that glitches were never meant to be in the game at all.

Additionally, because this glitch was caused by the inability of the local space function, fixing the setting consequently erased the glitch. But, local space is, in my views, something that HAD to be fixed. It has been fairly useful for me, and so do others as well.

Plus, it is NOT, I repeat, NOT impossible to recreate 3D cameras. I present to the court this fact: By placing a camera to the bottom of a square of material, you can easily use local space to recreate the 3D effect. Once done, the user can use two of these to get the 3D to work. All in all, by messing with it, 3D cameras are NOT dead! In fact, local space makes it slightly easier to make 3D cameras compared to the glitched method.

Therefore, because 3D cameras can still be made, and somewhat less tediously, the defendant, Media Molecule, is thereby NOT GUILTY!

Court Ajourned.

I'm sorry for the confusion associated with the title! I noticed the error as soon as I posted the thread, I just don't know how to fix it...

I'm not shamelessly advertizing my levels, a_mailbox, I put that there as an example of what the local space patch did to it. I have spent 6 months developing a first-person shooter that was almost done when Mm released the update. Working around it is a bit frustrating for me as well as to the people having to fix their 3D levels to adjust to the update.

If you click Edit Post, then Go Advanced, there should be a text field with the title which you can edit.2011-09-14 11:51:00

Definately worth knowing, but I've done it for you this time, cos seeing the title freaked me out a little too.

hm...since you were there Aya, couldn't you change the thread to "old 3D cams not working anymore"???
Since MM didn't broke anything...

I think I'll leave that up to the OP. Changing a thread title because it's inaccurate is a whole different thing to changing the spin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spin_(public_relations)).

Alot of LBP1 levels got broken when LBP2 got released. Alot of stuff like gas and older game logic became changed to not work correctly.

I basically deleted my hardwork from the community and started over. Might be a good idea for you to do the same.

I put it to you learned gentleman that you are wrong on many points

The glitch is nothing to do with the Local Space glitch...obviously, because it wouldn't work now would it? And on that...where's Robbit10!? You said if they fixed the Local Space Glitch we'd get smooth rotating...we should have you in contempt of court!

And you most definitely can't just put a camera to the bottom of something to create 3D.

Send him down!

If you created a camera before the patch, it is very easy to tweak, it just requires you to rotate to the camera angle to the horizon. The only difference between the old and new is the old worked naturally at a 45 degree angle, without having to rotate it. And the new works straight up and to the sides, with the need to rotate the camera angle.

I'm now pretty sure I can get my 16 angle camera back up and running.

HOLD IT!

Fang:

Wait... I got this...

Fang:

...

Fang:

...I can do this-

OBJECTION!

Edgeworth:

Tsk, tsk. It's obvious you have no clue what you're saying, Fang.

Fang:

...Okay, I don't know much about the subject. Someone get an expert here to testify...

Judge:

Hmph. For wasting the court's time, you get a penalty.

Fang:

NUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*cough* Anyways, don't be surprized if I make error in this topic. I'm not what you say the most educated at it. I only speak from personal experience. (i.e. I had trouble with the 3D Camera glitch, but found a 3D effect after 1.06 quite easily and/or by shear chance.)

Feel free to penalize me for wasting the court's time, Udgey.
