iCopter V2

Archive: 8 posts

Even before LBP2 was released, I knew my first level was going to be a remake of iCopter. If you haven't heard of iCopter, you may know it as helicopter game. If you still don't know what I'm talking about, play it on the internet or download the iPhone app!

As soon as I had played through the LBP2 story, I stared work on iCopter. I published what I thought to be a great level but soon I was wanting to update it and finding it very difficult to do anything without breaking the level. Then I started getting reviews saying there was a glitch in the level which completely broke it. Instead of trying to fix it, I decided to leave it alone and start a new project (coming soon!) until about a week ago when I decided to take action.

I basically rebuilt the level from the ground up, including all the logic involved . Once I had got it back to how it was, I kept thinking "I could just add that" or "that could be slightly better". The list of additions built up and eventually I couldn't think anything more to add.

So here's the final product, I've called it iCopter V2 but it feels like it should be V5 at least :hero: . I don't have any screenshots of the old version to compare but here are a couple of the new version.

Super fun!

I recommend the copter have two rotor holos, and have a timer rapidly alternate which is lit, which will simulate the rotation.

Also recommend some sense of "progression": a marked change in lighting or difficulty or both when the player makes it past certain waypoints. If you want more specific logic advice than that, just let me know.

I've tried to keep it true to the original version. However, those are good ideas and I may make changes similar to what you said and (maybe) a couple of power ups

Also, is there a way to change this thread to f4f?

PM a mod, maybe. TBH I wouldn't bother - I've been trolling the level threads kinda heavy over the last few weeks, and adding the F4F label seems to generate "play mah levels" posts, followed by a vague promise of eventually playing yours.

What's worked better for me lately is to simply play other people's stuff. Non-schlubs will go pretty far to pay you back if you leave them substantive feedback on their levels. Just put a link to your level thread in your sig. This will get you maybe two or three decent replies for every 5-10 levels you play.

VISUAL UPDATE: Changed all the hologram (most of the level) to sticker panel to for a crisper image and no glow effect! Also used the sticker panel to make a fancy new logo!2011-12-03 15:36:00

Made a new death/game over animation, the same as in the original game. It's in the OP.2011-12-21 17:48:00
