Hospitals.

Archive: 21 posts

For me, they're places for people to learn greatly about their own bodies and can be real life-savers in desperate times. For others, it can scare them more than clowns can and would be the LAST place they'd wanna be, even in a serious health emergency.

Recently, I've been frequenting the hospital because of my grandpa's failing health. Last week we thought he was gonna die from his 3 cardiac arrests in a row, but he recovered. Then we thought he was gonna die a few days ago since he was still unconscious and his brain wasn't responding, but he started to function. Now we have absolutely no idea on what will happen.

How are your opinions/experiences on/in hospitals?

I work in a hospital. It's not a pleasant place.

Your grandad is fortunate to have a supportive family.

Paticular hospitals, no problem for me. Could say something about the surgery room, but I think that my mind is already spoiled about that.

Now... Public hospitals... Brlrblrrrrr...

What about a clown in a hospital?

Edit: Oh shi... I should have read the whole post.

I hope your grandfather recovers. I saw my grandfather's health gradually deteorating before, it's not a pleasant thing to watch.
I spent 3 days and 2 night in a hospital after operating my left ear when I was 10. I woke up still in the operation room (the operation had ended, apparently) with my head heavy as lead. I either fell asleep right afterwards or I was still under the effect of anesthesia, I don't remember well. When I woke up I was already in my room and only then I noticed my head was so heavy because of it being bandaged. The worst thing was the waiting and boredom.

Outlaw- I'll be praying for you and your family.
Imo hospitals are like pretty much everything else... some are excellent and some are awful. Many years ago I had a 3" pulmunary embolism. Our local hospital (at the time) told my husband to call family that they would try to reduce the pain and that I'd be dead by morning. He refused to listen to them and against "medical advise" had me moved to another hospital. After 14 days in ICU, alot of dedicated treatment and a year of aftercare, all has turned out well. A hospital with truly caring staff makes an incredible difference.

I feel ill at ease at the dentist's as it is, so I don't think I could stand going to a hospital very often... :/
It looks cool and fun in TV shows, but that's another story in real life.

That being said, I hope your grandfather will soon feel better!

Eh, the only time I have been to one was for a surgery and....
For my grandfather as well.

I just feel a bit uncomfortable in them.
Knowing that you're walking past rooms where it could be the patients last day on earth.

But also rooms where some people have their first day on Earth, so it's kinda balanced out.

Hospitals... frikkin hate them. -_- My biggest memory of being in a hospital has to be when I was a few years younger, I was really ill with food poisoning (looking up the symptoms now, I think it was Campylobacter) so my mum called an ambulance. I arrived at the hospital and was told to wait, but I needed to go to the toilet so I started walking there slowly. All of a sudden I was writhing in pain on the floor, having no memory of how I got there, inventing a million and one swear words and nobody did anything, no-one asked if I was okay or offered to bring me a glass of water or even screamed at me to shut the ***** up. And do you know what really p*ssed me off? In the background all I could hear were the nurses/paramedics/doctors, standing around and laughing. :@ Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can guess I don't like hospitals much... -_-2011-09-11 00:26:00

you and your family are in our prayers Outlaw. I know how it is with the waiting and not knowing. Over the past 4 years we've lost my Great Grandma, my Grandma, a Great Uncle, my mother-in-law and father-in-law. So we spent a lot of time in the hospitals. The last time was the hardest, as we were in there when they took my F-I-L off the ventilator and it was the waiting and waiting that was stressful. He passed about 3 hours after taking him off the machines. It was rough. My wife and oldest daughter were in there as well and, well it was hard. In my experiences the nurses were always top notch. They were so understanding when my dad in law died. Anyway, I'm starting to go on and on again. Outlaw, my best wishes man. Hang in there. I believe everything that happens, good or bad, happens for a reason. When my dad in law passed it was almost like a relief, because he had been in so much pain. He had lost his wife of 50 + years, the year before and his health was extremely bad. His mind was slipping. He actually pulled a gun on me last year and tried to ....I'll save that story for later. I'm doing it again. My prayers go out to you man.2011-09-11 03:42:00

I dont trust hospitals, or doctors for that matter (The nurses sure are nice though ). Personally, i think that they watch out more for their pockets than they do for peoples lives, countless scientific discoveries and they still do Chemotherapy. Because putting radioactive materials in a persons body will totally cure cancer. "But how else would i afford my solid gold mansion?" 8 years of med-school to do the exact opposite of what you wanted to do your entire life, i think ill perform my own surgeries from now on, keep your drugs.2011-09-11 09:43:00

Last summer I went to the hospital a lot since my grandpa was really sick after an operation. He was in different hospitals for 4 months until he died 11th september (1 year ago from now). I visited him like 3 days a week. So, yeah hospitals doesn't really put a smile on my face.

For some reason I also feel ill when I enter a hospital, they smell so weird and everyone there seems to be coughing. It also makes me sad when I go past someone's room and the person in the room looks really ill.

I did meet a few friendly nurses when I was recovering. Although they employ the most devious manners of trickery to give children injections without them making a big fuss. Something like:

"Okay, just lie down and look up to the ceiling. I need to check your bandages on this side of your head"
"Okay"
"Right. Be still, this won't take long"
"No problem. Hey, why did you just rub my arm with... AAAAAGH!"

The worst thing is more often than not nobody visits them either because they have no friends/family left or nobody cares.

I was in a hospital in Zante a month or so ago, when i went on a holiday with a bunch of mates from college. Apparently the Greeks don't like English people very much, and will ignore you until you are the only person left.

I had glass in my legs because I decided it would be a great idea to dropkick a glass door in the hotel, which I blame entirely on the fact the hotel had a free bar.

Still, it's all good now. I don't particularly like hospitals though.
