Ideas for Website Header

Archive: 12 posts

To all moderators,

After using this site for a few months, I started to realize that the header was good but the images were out of date slightly. So instead of finding some new images, I thought that all the winners of the LBPC Crown Contests, and those in the Community Spotlight could have the images from their levels featured in the header, with a level link to lbp.me!

Ta da! This idea seems perfect. And you just have to use images the user made themselves. Because not everyone reads the Community Spotlight or even cares about the LBPC Crown Contest. So this could be a sure way of advertising levels. Simple and easy, you can even put the level name on the photo.

Please reply to this, as I have other posts that I don't recall getting any moderator feedback.

There's really not much we can do. All moderators can do is moderate posts, and a few other administrative bits n' bobs. When it comes to site layout changes, that's something only CC can do.

Thanks, at least you replied. I hope someone brings this to his attention whenever he's available.

The images used at the moment are high quality screens that might be hard to replicate. Although the Creator Contest video/s are captured in 720p, so screens of them might be of high enough resolution.2011-09-14 12:13:00

Makes sense to me anyways...

But this makes less sense, I was mistaken. /Feelsdumb

In theory, I think this sounds cool - the only major problem with it is that a huge portion of the screen space would be a dedicated link to a site that isn't ours. Not to sound selfish but, when it comes to web design, there are certain "best practices" that should be left intact - sending visitors away from LBPCentral when they click our header (even to LBP.me) would not be a good idea.

The other problem with doing any sort of "live content" in our header - recently popular levels, etc - is that it would have to be constantly maintained. It couldn't be automated due to the need for high-res screenshots for each piece of content, so we'd have to find someone who'd be willing to take those screenshots and enter in each piece of content. Not only that, but if we couldn't find someone who has the ability (and willingness) to take high-res screenshots, then suddenly it becomes a two-person job. Two people working pretty much endlessly to cycle content in and out for a massive rotating header image that directs visitors away from LBPCentral? And all of this above the ads? Sorry, but I just can't rationalize that much work for little-to-no ad exposure.

Thanks for the post CC. Appreciate the feedback!
