How can you allow the player to change camera zoom like in the end of the first video?

I simply placed 3 Game cameras (with different zoom values) on a sequencer (set to Speed), very close to each other, and then connected the Sequencer to the Movinator in/out speed sensor.

It's not this simple tho. I don't recall the details right now but there is some extra logic involved. Will check if I still have that camera demo thing on my Moon and take a pic.

Edit: Here is the pic

It's actually as simple as I remembered. No extra logic involved

Can't wait for the rest of the videos.

A brilliant in-depth analysis from someone who knows what they're doing? Yes, please!

Really nice info in here, thanks very much!

The only thing that concerns me is that darned move cursor... I wish I could literally just pop it on to a controllinator too to make it multi-compatible.

Maybe a movinator controlled by a controllinator? I didn't see any inputs on the movinator controls.... *scratches chin*

Fingers crossed it'll be simpler than I'm envisioning!

Dont worry there is a ways to do hybrid Movinator partly working with standard pad, so you can use movinator insted of controllinator if you dont plan to use eithe those:

-R Stick
-R1 and R2 buttons
-R3
-Motion controls

If you don't use those you got everything to support standard pad on Movinator. There also ways to detect if player use Move so you can turn off cursor, or even switch player to controllinator

Subbed. Your reviews of the Move are incredibly in-depth. People should review things like you do for like, everything in the world 2011-09-09 17:42:00

I think he was wondering if it's possible to control the cursor with a Controllinator. I don't think that's possible with hybrid system. You need the Move to control the Movinator cursor.

Ooh, iWaggle, I love that series!

Nice to see the mechanics of the Move pack in depth.

@Waggler: I'd say you might be able to. Pop a bot into a movinator and place a cursor onto the movinator microchip, then wire a controlinator right stick into the corresponding movinator inputs? I'm not in the beta so I'm just speculating.2011-09-10 12:42:00

Problem is there is no cursor inputs on the Movinator. You simply place the cursor logic thing on it and the cursor pops up. It's not connected to the Movinator sensors or anything you can fiddle with. Basically there is nothing you can connect the right stick to.

BTW, 2nd part of Move DLC analysis is currently uploading to YT. 169 minutes to go. Doesn't cover new tools yet (cursor, motion recorder, paint tool - those will be discussed in the 3rd video) but analyzes the Movinator from a different perspective: that of a gesture recognition device. It's some sort of tutorial explaining how you can use traditional LBP2 logic elements in conjunction with the Movinator sensors to build gesture based controls.

Problem is there is no cursor inputs on the Movinator.

Bit of a shame, really. There is a workaround, though, which is to make a custom cursor using a bit of Sticker Panel material, which you can either control with an analog stick using an Advanced Mover, or use a Follower to make it follow the real Move Cursor, which can be set to invisible.

And, as Shadowriver has already said, it's fairly trivial to detect if the player has a Move or not, so hybrid levels are fairly straighforward to implement.

Yep and yep

But it really depends how your cursor-based gameplay works. If it's fairly simple and slow, an hybrid solution would work. If it's fast and complicated, not so much.

Thanks for the workaround suggestions guys! It'll be for a point-and click based game, so very slow movements really. I hope aya's suggestion will work - fingers crossed!

Checking out part 2 now - thanks waggler!

Thanks for uploading these videos! Seeing some of the phenomenal things we'll be able to do with the move controller has gotten me even more excited for the pack!

I'm pleasantly surprised how easy it is to fake gesture recognition.

is there a way to make the move cursor change the shape of the cursor when you press something like the move button. For example if the cursor is a circle and then i press the move button i want the circle to shrink.2011-09-12 01:08:00

Yes. Use a false cursor made out of several holograms (one for each cursor "state"), and make them light up when you need them to.2011-09-12 01:19:00

No need to create a fake cursor. You can simply place as many cursor chips as you want on the Movinator (each with different shape) and have a selector or something alike switch between them at the press of a button or whatever.

My next vid will show exactly this (among other stuff)

Thanks. I had no idea how it works, so I was just going with what I know... that means it's even easier to make different cursors.

You can trigger change anyway you want even on highlight.

Thank you Waggler, your guide to the new move pack tools has given me some useful insight into what they are capable of. It amazes me how many subtle layers and hidden depths there are to ALL the tools in LBP. It's almost as if MM thought of everything...

What part of the video are you trying to recreate? Can you be more specific?

haven't got this pack, definitely getting it soon though.

Just out of interest, can someone who has it tell me how the 'Surrealist' (hanging frame and suit) costume splits up into parts? I really hope the suit is a seperate piece/pieces, that would be so useful for some costumes i'm doing

Hope this helps.

I'm trying to recreate 13:44-13:48 on the first video

Connect the speed sensor to an advanced mover. Left/Right speed output to left/right movement. Up/down speed output to up/down movement. Then, on the Advanced mover, set everything to max (deceleration included).

Then of course you need to connect the turning rotation outputs to a Joystick rotator (again, set everything to max on the latter)

Let me know if this helps
