Help Section - Resolved Option

Archive: 11 posts

Here's an Idea,

In the Help section on this website, people often post problems which they seem to be having - but something that confuses me sometimes, when I'm in a helpful mood, is which ones still need help with something, and which ones are still a concern - I mean, often there are about five replies to a problem, all saying the same thing.

Would it be a good idea to have a "Resolved" option in these sections - Something like a tick box when the OP edits his/her post, so that everyone skimming through the Help section can see that the problem is resolved - therefore meaning people don't post the same replies and ideas on a thread, and also so they know the problem the OP was having is solved. Also, people who have had similar problems would then be able to easily see whether or not the answer is in that particular thread, and there would be no need to read through pages of replies, only to find the problem is still an occurring one.

I don't know much about websites, but I reckon it wouldn't be that hard to implement. Anyone want to say anything on this?

Not a bad idea! ..if nothing else, it would be handy if the OP simply edited the subject to say (Resolved).2011-09-08 01:42:00

Thanks!

Another idea I had was concerning inactive threads - such as the fact that if a thread has been inactive for say, two weeks, it's made clear that the thread is an old one - such as the title having a prefix included saying: INACTIVE THREAD. This might solve some of the problems that mods have concerning people unwittingly replying to a thread that was created two years ago. Or not - maybe that's different territory.

Actually, I'm surprised no one has suggested this before, myself included. It seems to be a pretty standard feature of a lot of forums (whether it be help or sales) so I can't imagine it being a particularly difficult thing to implement.

I don't really go into the help section these days, since I'm less active in LBP in general, but if I could easily see which topics still needed help I'd probably be more inclined to help out since I wouldn't be spending my time sifting through the threads.

As for the 'inactive thread' idea, I'm not sure how well that would work. While I assume you just picked out the 2 weeks from the top of your head it does raise the issue of when a thread is actually inactive. Different threads work differently, some threads might have a life span of only a few days whereas some might last for months with maybe only a new post every week.

Love the resolved button idea - I basically agree with what's been said already - and also feel that if I could see that from the board, I'd be more inclined to spend longer in the help sections trying to help out 2011-09-08 12:59:00

It could be just nice if users would take the time to edit the thread title, so that MOD will be able to close the said thread.
Though I don't favour the Inactive thread idea.
Just because something is inactive it doesn't mean that it has to be left dying.
I prefer to bump a thread from 2 years ago than opening a duplicate.

This is a good idea. I can't guarantee anything, but consider it on my radar. 2011-09-08 21:04:00

Great! Well, thanks everyone for your input! And thanks CC!

I love the fact that on this forum, we, the community, have the opportunity to throw up suggestions, and even have them considered and listened to!

Okay, did a little digging, and I've got this (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=234935) installed - however, it is not currently enabled, and won't be until it supports thread starters marking their own threads as closed. Right now, all we could do with it is allow a predefined group of people the ability to mark any thread as solved - something we can't do, obviously. So, for now, we wait.2011-09-15 07:27:00

Can't you just request that the threads can be closed automatically, or ask the mod to show you what it is.
