Problem with game camera and Local Space (Pictures included)

Archive: 9 posts

When 1.06 came out, I thought I could finish my level. Turns out, I hit another problem. Now I havent used local space so much, but if I remember correctly the camera should stay the same way I put the angle of the camera.
I've not the best explainer in the world (or the best person in english), so I've made some drawings:

This is the "stage" where sackboy runs around. The stage rotates so that sackboy runs on the wall.

I want it to look like this when it rotates with the camera following it 360 degrees:

It kind of works, but sometimes when sackboy "falls" down to a corner, this is how the camera looks.

The camera also flip horizontally when the camera is upside down.

I have local space on, 0% on following sackboy and the camera zone looks like this:

Have I misunderstood the Local Space on the game camera, or does anyone know what I can do?
And I'm sorry if it's not easy to understand what I mean.

If you use sackbots (I highly suggest it for this), you can but the camera in the microchip and it will follow the player while staying at the same angle. Does this help?2011-09-08 02:09:00

Cool graphics! I love visuals, makes things so much easier.

What is the area of coverage for your camera zone?

It sounds like part of the problem is that the sackboy is leaving the zone. The camera rotates with the player, but the zone does not.

Here's what I am imagining...

But I have no idea why the camera would flip horizontally. That's odd.

A lot of people experience problems using Local Space with the game camera. Your true solution might be to use a movie camera that allows the player to continue using controls. When they enter the room, trigger the camera, and when they leave the room, destroy it (or turn it off).

I'm also creating a level that rotates (http://lbp.me/p/9-ny-q), we might be able to give each other some ideas!

Great idea! Check out my second Trollscience.com level (http://lbp.me/v/11xgn9)

Regarding the camera issues, its most likely the thing arbiekko mentioned, as I initially had the exact same problem when building Trollscience

Wow... this is the most useful HELP thread I have seen in a while. My first guess has already been bought up, the camera zone... as was my second idea, using a sackbot with a movie camera on it's board.

But a silly question... is your intention to have the player always right side up or are they end up on the ceiling upside-down?

Ermm.. if i am getting this right, i am afraid the game camera wont work this way as it always tries to track the player. You probably need to switch to a movie camera as arbiekko said before. :/
There is a chance to get close by putting 3 or more of the same setup game cameras, as in 3D camera glitch, that will avoid the flip but it will always tilt some degrees.

Ah, I never thought of the movie camera. Tried it out, apart from the camera moving a little bit to the side and up, it did what I wanted it to do. Thanks It's fun to play there now. Now it's just for the rest of gameplay
