Archive: 7 posts

Hello this is a level ive been working on for quite some time but i recently have come to a wall because of some minor issues but if you wouldnt mind playing it and reporting any issues in the level to me...
I know of a few that i cant fix at the moment (been busy)
-Right hand side door doesnt open
-1st gun on wall to big
-Short shot delay in shotgun
-Zombies dont follow correct layers
any others?

This is purely for criticism so i dont mind any harsh reviews....

Right now, the guns don't work. I can't shoot them.

I know how to aim, I know how the buttons work. But I can't hit anything I shoot at.

So before you make it look like Call of Duty, before you make changes to anything else...I'd work on these guns. Make a 2x2 small grid block of invisible holo follow the player. Make an invisible arm follow that block. Put the follower on one end of the arm, a joystick rotator and the gun on the other.

Maybe there's another way to do it, but your guns need to traverse fields of fire the way the paintinator does.

Hey, man, they change layer. That's not what I meant, and I'm sorry I wasn't more clear.

It took me three tries to figure out how the guns worked. When I say I can't use the guns, I'm saying that I'm more focused on "making the gun work" than I am on "shooting bad guys". There are a lot of people who will quit your level early if they feel the same way.

So when I'm talking about "traverse"... go equip a Paintinator. Turn your shooting arm 360 degrees. Fire around. See how smooth that is? I think your guns can, and should, work like that. If you did that, your level would be a lot more fun.

hmm im still not sure what you mean by smooth and yes there are some problems with the guns.... but the pistol seems to be the best working one besides the fact that you have to press r1 twice to equip it and i dont know what else you mean? its triangle to reload... um.... well my gun goes around and everything... shoots right but idk what else you mean....?2011-09-18 07:31:00

Pro tip: Do not create zombie levels. They've been done way too many times before and they're all pretty much the same. If you think you're going to get a ton of plays by creating something like this, think again.2011-09-18 13:09:00

Pro tip: using "pro tip" before speaking makes you sound condescending. Adding "think again" also makes you sound like somebody's dad.

It IS difficult to get recognized making tribute levels, but that isn't the only reason people should make levels. Wolf, you should keep working on this level until you get sick of it, or until it's taught you everything you think you can learn from it.

As for the play control, let me try again. Here's my point, in a nutshell: I didn't make the Paintinator, and I didn't make your gun objects. Speaking as a complete noob, when I picked up the paintinator, I learned to shoot it in thirty seconds. I got killed five times before I understood how to make your guns work, and even then, I couldn't do it well.

From my memory of the gameplay, it seemed like rotating the point of aim on the pistol made it spin in place. When it fired, I could see the muzzle flash, but I was never sure what I was hitting.

The paintinator, in contrast, is on the end of Sackboy's arm, and when you change the point of aim, the paintinator moves smoothly, and you can see instantly where it's pointing. When you fire the paintinator, you see the paintballs, and know where your point of impact is.

I know that real guns don't have visible bullet-trails (unless you're using tracers). But the key to making your level fun, in my opinion, is in making your guns fun to shoot. They were kind of frustrating to shoot when I played, and that's going to suck the "cool factor" out of the rest of your level.
