Making objects disappear and reappear
Archive: 8 posts
I don't really want to use an emitter for this, btw. Here's the scenario: the player is making their way up this bounce pad section and if you fall, there is a barrier of blocks at the bottom going straight across that I want to disappear as soon as player gets there, causing them to hit plasma that they didn't know was there before. Then the blocks reappear like it never happened, while player has to retry to bounce pad part again. I'm able to get the individual blocks to disappear, but making them reappear again is the part I can't seem to figure out. Please help! | 2011-09-05 00:15:00 Author: InfiniteTwilight Posts: 159 |
I don't think this can be accomplished without emitters. You could, however, have them move in and out instead of disappearing. Have them move into the back layer as the player approaches, causing them to fall through. | 2011-09-05 00:18:00 Author: Brannayen Posts: 438 |
Ok thanks. I have a lot of this going on in my level (the in/out objects) so I might as well keep using this concept. Thanks for the help | 2011-09-05 00:20:00 Author: InfiniteTwilight Posts: 159 |
It wouldn't make them "disappear" per se, but you could use the glitched materials technique that makes objects look solid but have no collision effects. The player would see the blocks but fall through them into plasma. Similarly you could just have these blocks move left/right/up/down to reveal the plasma (since they won't collide with anything any direction is okay, not just in/out). | 2011-09-05 02:22:00 Author: Unknown User |
I was able to get the desired effect by just using the in/out movers, making people fall into plasma. | 2011-09-05 06:27:00 Author: InfiniteTwilight Posts: 159 |
Eventhough you've solved it... There is another option you could do. For now you can do it with holograms, when the player gets near making it invisible and then reappearing after. When the Move pack gets released you can change it to sticker panel material, which has the same properties as holo, but is opaque. | 2011-09-05 18:08:00 Author: Xaif Posts: 365 |
That's a good idea, too, Xaif. I probably won't be getting the Move pack, though. I'm almost ready to wrap the level up, so everyone be looking out for it. I'm calling it Hard Drive Havoc I'll be sure to put it on the level showcase. | 2011-09-05 22:57:00 Author: InfiniteTwilight Posts: 159 |
I have an idea: Try using a piston connected to the rocks and have an "inverted" player sensor. Be sure the piston is moving fast so when the player gets close to the rocks, they move in the blink of an eye away from the player. | 2011-09-06 01:34:00 Author: zzmorg82 Posts: 948 |
