Chicken Chuckin'

Archive: 17 posts

Check out my new (and my first) versus level:

Chicken Chuckin'

(It's actually egg chuckin', but I've always been guilty of counting chickens before they hatch)

There's a brief tutorial, and although it is a multi-player versus level, I can tell you from hours of play-testing that it is a blast to play in single player too. I sure hope you enjoy playing it.
(It can get a tad laggy with multiple players, but everyone that's tested it with me has told me it was still great fun!)

So glad to see you got this published. As you said it is great fun as a single player or as a multi player. It is good fun for all ages. My daughter adores it!2011-09-04 23:51:00

I never realized Chuckin Chickens could be so much fun. And thanks to v0rtex for letting that cat out of the bag...ok, I'll cease with the animal-related humor.

This level is not only fun, but addictive. The game mechanics are very impressive, especially in multiplayer. Chicken Chuckin feeds the desire to become proficient at catching those eggs, acquiring all power-ups, and avoiding the "bad" eggs--thank goodness Mm has not released an "Aroma Add On" . And the added caveat of using the jump pad to launch your box to the upper conveyor is a detail that adds a bit of flash to this explosive game.

Bravo v0rtex, on your first...and hopefully not last...versus level! I can't wait for a survival challenge sequel--could there be one in the making?

I see you are around 244 plays now, and the to ratio is excellent.

Tweak Needed:
We played it again with 4 players several times late last night...I used a PS3 account on my wife's PS that I have not changed the PSN settings for, so it does not register as a valid account, so you won't see a name. One thing I noticed, the camera does not quite zoom out enough to allow 2 local players to see the upper conveyors on either side of the screen. This does make it difficult to judge where to throw the box to, and could possibly have an impact on some players. Hope this is helpful.

Yeah - it's gathering a bit of steam. I hope it keeps going like this. Thanks for the feedback... I'll take a look at that camera.

BTW - I just republished with a new version for what I hope to be quicker/better load into the controllinators. I think a few people may have experienced a glitch where not all sack-folk get into their respective controllinators properly, and the level pretty much has to be restarted. I think this fix will remedy that problem, but I myself have only experienced it once, and it can't really be tested locally. So if anyone is playing with a full group of 4 (or even 3) if you could let me know if it loads and works properly, I sure would appreciate it.

Played! It's cute fun with added humor. I like how the difficulty level increases the longer you play the level. Is it supposed to be one of those "online only" levels? Because the camera decided to flip out a couple of times.2011-09-05 18:30:00

Well - It CAN be played locally, but only with two players, and then you both need to hit triangle until you get to the wide angle view. Any more than two local players and it won't work - the arenas are just too large to show all four.

Oh, that was very fun, even if played single player.
The gameplay mechanics are simple but effective and compelling.
Great work!

I clicked on this thread due to the funny name... Chicken Chuckin, made my laugh so I'm going to have to try this one out. It sounds like fun, since it's up for F4F I'll post back my thoughts once I've played it.2011-09-05 20:15:00

That was helpful, Rick. I've fixed it now. Thanks!

BTW: I've added video to the OP (thanks to Morgana25 for that)!

Hi, played it last night and left a review on the level. It was great fun. No one would let me join them for multiplayer so I went alone. The power-ups & bounce pads added to the gameplay experience & fun factor.

If you can, my level is up for F4F too, in my signature below.

Your level is so fun that I hearted it so I can come back later to play it again, hopefully with friends.

Looks hilarious! I have it queued up to play as soon I finish downloading this update I've been avoiding...

Great level. My favorite part is the presentation, I think it's the little details that really make a level shine. The tutorial is nicely done and the visual timers for the power-ups are very helpful. Plus the game play is addicting and fun. I'll have to show this level to my niece and nephew next time they come over.

I don't really have any constructive criticism, but it would be neat to play the level in single player and go for a high score. (I guess it would also be neat if the scoreboards worked).

Nice job!

I played this level earlier and it's a good versus game.

VISUALS:
I liked the Chicken Chuckin' logo, and the tutorial is well put. The level design has good material choices, too.

SOUND:
Good music choices and effective sound effects.

GAMEPLAY:
The catching the eggs are fun, and the score givers are highly accurate. I don't seem to get the powerups, or maybe it's just me (I should have carefully read the text of the tutorials).

OVERALL:
It's fun for everyone. A yay.
