Dangers of overheating?
Archive: 8 posts
So I'm working on a level right now and it's thermo is at about 70%. That's without the sackbots that are emitted up to four. Worst combo will account for 10%. And I've also heard that the player's costume uses thermo. Is this still true if they are not visible during gameplay? Also, say I go up to 93% thermo with my level, then four players bump it up to 103% with their sackbots, what happens then? And one final thing, will pushing the limits (85-95%) have negative effects? | 2011-09-03 13:10:00 Author: Trader347 Posts: 57 |
It largely depends on the connection. If the people you're playing against don't have a decent connection, I've heard that anywhere above 80% can cause significant lag to occur. In single player it should be fine but I'm assuming this isn't a single player level. Of course it also depends on what you have in your level too, if there are lots of moving parts in certains areas and the thermo is high, you'll again experience high levels of lag. Furthermore if the thermo does almost reach 100% or go over it, your emitters will fail and other bits and pieces of logic may too. Ideally you'll want to optimise your logic so it's as efficient as possible, and if you can do so only emit parts of your level when they're needed. Like I say, if your thermo's high and it's a 4 player game, expect lag in general. =S | 2011-09-03 14:44:00 Author: Xaif Posts: 365 |
The best thing to do is to have level links. | 2011-09-03 14:47:00 Author: zzmorg82 Posts: 948 |
Level links would have been better, but you have no choice now, good luck :/ | 2011-09-03 18:05:00 Author: Unknown User |
Thanks everyone! This helped me out a lot. I think I should be able to make it so that when there are four players, the thermo will be at max 85-88%. It's still higher than I would have liked, but there aren't many (maybe no) moving parts, so hopefully that will reduce lag. Also, I'm somewhat new to creating so my logic looks like cobwebs. So, if any of you are feeling generous, it would be greatly appriciated if you could take a look at my level and give me tips to reduce thermo (and get your name in the credits). Thanks again everyone | 2011-09-03 21:27:00 Author: Trader347 Posts: 57 |
Lastly, it will have very high load times and emitters will stop working, so remember that. | 2011-09-03 22:48:00 Author: Undarivik Posts: 442 |
One more thing... I'm at 75% now, but when I invite friends it says I can't because I'm overheating. What percent do I have to be at to no overheat? | 2011-09-04 03:21:00 Author: Trader347 Posts: 57 |
Well, about 60% but, you could leave then invite them. | 2011-09-04 18:50:00 Author: Undarivik Posts: 442 |
