Problematic pistons and looney logic!

Archive: 6 posts

Ok, I just added in the "looney logic" to make the title cooler

My problem is that I need a piston to go to it's minimum length after it's input is activated once, then the next time it's activated to go to it's max. None of the input actions seem to do this. Any ideas?

Connect a direction combiner to the piston and set the piston to forwards/backwards. Then, you can activate to positive side to go to max, and the negative side to go to minimum.2011-09-03 11:23:00

The Directional Combiner only-idea will only be a suitable solution if your outputs remain on for a long enough period of time for the piston to reach either extremity.

I'd suggest using a Selector, with 2 outputs. Each output going into the 2 inputs of the Combiner, and then wire your switch thingy that toggles the piston, into the Selectors Cycle input.

I'm not sure if a Toggle Switch would work for this or not. Interestingly those things only seem to work with certain things, I find.

A toggle switch would work, you would simply have to put a NOT gate between the toggle and the negative input.2011-09-03 11:40:00

Just use a toggle on its own? No need for a combiner. I think select the input action with two arrows as the icon on the piston (can't remember what they call it), but when the input is active the piston will extend to the maximum, when inactive it will contract to the minimum. The toggle switch obviously toggles between on and off when it receives an input signal.2011-09-03 14:50:00

Yeah, you don't need a combiner at all. Just hook a toggle straight into a piston set to forwards/backwards and you're done.2011-09-03 18:12:00
