Hello! We’re back for our next creation challenge, with a fun and friendly competition that will allow you to show off your level building skills and win a precious desired prize. This time, we’re out to pick LBP’s best scientist!

In Craftworld the laws of physics are up for grabs! It’s time for all you dream builders to throw on a lab coat and get experimenting! You are in control – the rules are there to be defied, manipulated or harnessed! So unleash your inner mad scientist and defy the laws of nature or out-boffin the boffins and bend those forces to your will.

In this month’s contest we want you to create a level where the focus is on having fun with the LBP physics engine. So head into the lab and turn gravity on its head, slow down time, play with magnetism, weight, momentum, inertia...or just generally redefine the spacetime continuum! The choice is yours! Just be sure to wow us with the inventive ways in which you have tweaked or used the physics engine, your crazy contraptions, storylines, puzzles and all round scientific genius!

Building requirements

Create a level experience of your choice where the gameplay features some of the different ways LBP physics can be tweaked or exploited. You do not have to make all the gameplay physics-related; the level can include other gameplay elements. Just make sure that the main emphasis is on the physics gameplay.
Gameplay is unrestricted - any type of interactive game, whether it be platformer, puzzle or minigame, is allowed!
No level links allowed
Cutscenes are allowed but the focus should be on the gameplay
Levels should be long enough to keep the judges entertained for 5-10 minutes

How to enter

Build a level before the deadline that fits the contest description and building requirements.
Include the text “(LBPC4)” in the level’s title. Don’t forget to add things like a nice looking badge, some tags, and a concise level description.
Publish your level before 11:59PM GMT on 30 September, 2011.
Post an LBP.me link to your level in this thread, so we’re sure not to miss it!
After the deadline, the judges will put on their white coats and select up to ten semi-finalists based on the scoring criteria below. The best level will be pinned winner!
The Sackinima team will feature HD recordings of the three finalists on their youtube channel for the whole world to see!

Judging criteria

Levels will be judged according to the following criteria:

Gameplay– Here, we’re scoring things like fun factor, balanced difficulty and freedom from glitches and bugs.
Originality – How innovative is your creation? How does it stand out from the crowd?
Visuals – This is all about how good your level looks. We like detail and lighting and special effects, but try to avoid graphics-induced lag!
Audio – Sound effects and music are a great way to turn your level into an addictive and immersive experience.

Rules and Regulations

This contest is open to all ages and all regions. That means anyone can participate!
All entries must be playable in LittleBigPlanet2
You can only enter one level. Duplicate entries will result in disqualification.
The contest officially begins on 1st September, 2011 at 12:00am GMT. Previously published entries will not be accepted.
You can co-create with up to four people, but only one person should publish the level. Team member contributions should be listed in the level description. If you are publishing as a team, this counts as the only “one entry” for each team member, so you cannot publish on your own and as part of a team, or enter as part of more than one team.
Levels must be published unlocked and set to “Standard” or “Versus” in their gameplay mode.
Levels must be published before the deadline with “(LBPC4)” in the level’s title. After the deadline, do not republish. Levels republished after the deadline will be disqualified. Exceptions may be made for quick fixes with respect to level titles, description, badges, or major game-breaking fixes, but only with the prior consent of the contest crew. If you need to request an edit, please post in this thread and send me a PM.
Levels must be your own creation. Feel free to take inspiration from the world around you and from other levels, but don’t copy someone else’s work outright! That’s just not cool….

Q: Can I enter a previously published level?
A: No.

Q: Can I enter a level I already have on my moon, but hasn't yet been published?
A: Yes.

Q: Once I've published my entry, can I republish it?
A: You can republish it as many times before the deadline as you like, but not after the deadline.

Q: When will the judging begin?
A: The judges may take a look at some levels prior to the deadline, but the judging proper will not begin until after the deadline.

Q: When will the results be posted?
A: We can't really give any accurate answer to this, but it will be no more than a month after the judging begins.

OK ? we?ve got some good news and some bad news!

In all seriousness we just want to explain to everyone (or at least the eagle-eyed amongst you who have spotted it!) why the prize for LBPC4 is going to be the rare LBPC contest winner pin and not a Crown.

We recently learnt from MM that they are unable for the time being to get hold of any more US codes for Crowns and that the stock of codes for the EU and UK is limited. It is possible that this situation will be resolved at some point but for the time being we simply can?t continue to hold contests where we promise a Crown as the prize, as we may not be able to make good on that promise.

The good news, though, is that the update for the Move Pack will include some new secret pins one of which will be an LBPC contest winner pin. So for future contests (or at least until we are sure that the issues with Crown codes have been sorted), we will be offering the new super rare pin as the prize for the winner. Spaff confirmed to us only this afternoon that the pins will go live with the Move Pack and on that basis we felt we could carry on with the contests despite the problems with Crown codes.

The Crowns for LBPC1 and LBPC2 will still be provided by MM (as they are going to an EU and UK account holder). Unfortunately, the position with LBPC3 is not clear yet for obvious reasons. If the winner turns out to be a US account holder then we will simply do our very best to ensure that at the point US Crown codes return they will be awarded one but we?re afraid there will just be a very long wait in the meantime. However, when pins become available, our intention is to award them to all the winners of LBPC contests, past and present ? a small silver lining, we hope!

We?re truly sorry we can?t promise any more Crowns but we are sure you will take the new pin to your hearts. After all if you have one of those pins it's going one very exclusive club to belong to! 		2011-09-02 20:04:00

I also would like to give an advice.
Don't rush your levels, beta test them with friends, look at what they do, how they behave in the level.
We won't play the levels until the deadline arrives, so take your time to tweak everything until the last day.
Put all your care into the levels.

I honestly think the pins are a better prize than a crown.

Think about how many crown-holders get nagged and nagged to gameshare. With an in-game pin, you won't have this problem! 		2011-09-02 20:08:00

And i also belive all current LBPC winners will also get them, but there no confirmation on that. But whatever crown situation will be you always get a pin, since MM can give them without any limits

As i know (on offical LBP forums) so far Planetentarium, Central, LBL, LBN and CC will have one, might be more, so if crown problem hits them too you also can have a pin anyway		2011-09-02 20:20:00

Yes, pins will be retroactive for LBPC1 and LBPC2.
Spaff told me he's working to address the Crowns problems.
So they're not gone forever, though he can't guarantee anything at the moment.

down a rocky mountain count far as what this contest is aiming for??

and aww, to bad to hear about the crown... I find pins worthless just like trophies IMO.
at least a crown is a costume I could put to use maybe as I'm a costume creator mainly.
not that it's a big deal to me anyways as i don't enter contests to win, but for fun.

It's pretty clear to me; make a vehicle that flips gravity upside-down, make a robot that slows down time, make a device that magnetically attracts everything in your level... just about anything like that.

Ahhhh...the physics of LBP simulate the "world" around us, as well as the "worlds" within us.

Well after talking to someone else. I see now what we are suppose to make is
abnormal physics. like walking on walls, floating islands.
People that fly. and some other crazy not normal stuff.
to be honest the info on this contest this time are not very clear IMO at all.
took me a while and some time talking to someone to understand what this was all about.

unclear things make me worry and feel uncomfy~

anyways conveniently I may have been already working on a level
that fits within abnormal physics idea this month. but first thing is first. is to get the level made.
and if I feel it's worth also entering in this contest once I have it done, I will.
So basically I'm just gonna work on my level as normal and if i get it done before the month is over.
I'll go ahead and also enter it in this contest while I'm at it.

Allrigth! Finally something I'm good at! I am a fan of science and physics. I like working with gravity, weigth and that stuff.
It can be any kind of level, right? I think i will make a plataformer with physics stuff.

Anyway, I'll start making my entry as soon as I get home from grandma's house. Expect my best level ever. I really wanna get that crown. Me and a friend made a deal, whoever get the crown first, will be named the best player of both us. And I have a great chance to get it. Mm doesn't run the Playstation Store, which is ultimately how the DLC arrives on your PS3. If Sony doesn't replenish Mm's ability to award DLC to users, there's not a lot they can do about it.

Watch out, because Lakera is gonna enter this contest with cool, original (=Not Portal) idea. Since LBPC1 I have trained a lot in create and I think I can now make much better levels than back then. Hopefully this contest will be as tough as other were and nobody gets the pin too easily. And I want to see lot of good entries so stop thinking with portals!!2011-09-03 11:21:00

For example, the crown becomes available again a month after this contest has already finished, would you go back to the winner and award them a crown?

Super late but... Oh my God, new rare pins is definitely awesome! O_O Don't care about costume crown, care about rare pins and if there's more rare pins than yay! Although.. i just wish there were rare pins that we could actually achieve ourselves rather all of them being solely reliant on others such as the community, Mm or miscellaneous sites' contests' :/ but a great challenge none the less!

Yeah, this is probably the best contest you guys have held so far. While it may be much more approachable to the average creator (compared to Synched Up!), you still throw in small details that push everyone to do their best without making it easy.

Here's a tip to people out there who want levels links so that they won't get overheated. It can be sort of tricky, but very helpful. Basically what you do is break your level into 2 or more parts and 1 or more centerpieces in between all of the parts. You start off with part 1 and the centerpiece in the level, when part 1 is over, and they get to the centerpiece, activate a special tag that turns on destroys that delete all of part 1 and then emits part 2, repeat if you need more pieces. As long as the previous part is not needed again it should work fine. Its fairly simple but if you need my help, I'd be willing to give it! Emitting the level is really better than ever in LBP2. You can start a cutscene, use a movie camera to fade to black, scoop up the players in controlinators, and delete literally everything except the hologram upon which Sackboy sits. Controlinator emits the rest of the level, dumps the sacks, scene fades in, and everybody wins!

I was forced to do a bit of that on my LBPC3 entry just to make the thing stand up straight. It's pretty handy.		2011-09-04 04:49:00

I'd love to see what could be done with the photoelectric effect. I can imagine it to be quite a scenic level if that happens; waves of rainbow matter hitting a wall and becoming dots of colour as their behaviour becomes like that of a particle. Not sure how that could work with gameplay unless you got a creatinator that fired off waves and formed solid platforms when they hit a surface.		2011-09-05 14:05:00

I take it you've worked on this for quite some time . 5 days since contest started and you've already made a level (that looks epic BTW), and an edited level trailer (just as epic).... nice.
My guess is that he has been working on this for some time before the contest was announced and just got lucky that the first contest with a new super rare pin fits the theme of his level.

BTW, can my level be about a guy who goes around kidnapping or "collecting" creatures because he doesn't have any friends and there is this hero who is going around trying to stop him? I'm thinking there could be this epic battle in the end and everyone ends up being friends. Sounds cool dudnit, haven't figured out a title yet though.

If your stuck for ideas, think of Worms. I don't think it should be too hard to implement, but don't completely copy it. And please mention me in the level, since I gave you the idea, or I'll track you down and request Mm to delete your level and spam you for the rest of your life, and telll your family and wow this is getting really small & faint, and why are you still reading this, you clearly have no inspiration so just make the Worms level already!
