Just bought GTAIV, what am I in store for?

Archive: 17 posts

Ok, I know it's gotten many good reviews and GOTY awards, and also a lot of backlash from people who hated it, or thought it was really bad.

Is it really that bad, or just the vocal minority making a big deal out of it? I haven't played too much of the GTA series (a little bit in San Andreas but that's it) and bought it for $30, and wondered whether it's worth it or not.

I didn't get paid to review or reviewed it well to make Rockstar and Take-Two to continue to support my site, so I didn't think it was godly or anywhere near "best game of all time". It's not a bad game at all. You'll dig it.

And anyone who thinks I'm paranoid does not follow the industry.

Its bad since;

1.They took out the Tank
2.They took out planes
3. They took out the chainsaw
4. The "Slow-down time" drug is gone
5. Every 1-2 missions or so, your friends call you asking to hang out and you better say yes or you'll lose some respect (I'm being chased by cops and because I won't go to your house and go for a drink with you, your going to hate me!!!!! WTF)

6. Not much on customization as San Andreas

In short, out of the recent GTA releases, IV was the worst..... if you never played 1 fully before, you'll probably like it....

Too little variety, not nearly as much to do as in previous games, you earn all this money but there's hardly anything to spend it on, most of the missions have nothing to do with the story-- they just feel like errands/chores/busywork, etc.

I really prefer Saints Row 2. I luvs it mucho!

Uh if you're looking for missions pertinant to the story GTA is not where you're going to find it, all the games are like that to increase the non-linearity, and try and replicate the idea that life is not going to bring you from one plot point to another, that it's gonna be muddled with stuff irrelevant sometimes. Plus there isn't much story to the game, it puts you in the shoes of an immigrant who only wants two things in Liberty City, and he seems to fall into the pitfalls of his previous lifestyle.

Think of it as a next gen spiritual successor to GTA III and not to GTA San Andreas and you'll be fine.

It is way more immersive than any of the other GTAs if you give it a chance to do so and not think "oh they took out tanks lame." The way the characters are all woven together is great, and you don't meet filler characters out of left field (Zero or the crazy Haitian voodoo lady from VC) they all have some sort of connection.

The voice acting is a bit hackneyed at the beginning, but the characters soon fit into their roles.

Fun and realism, and watching rag-doll physics in action on the hood of your car.

Also an awesome multiplayer.

You're in store for the need for subtitles.
And a complete and utter feeling of kick-you-in-the-crotch and spit-on-your-neck disappointment that will never be unrivalled.

I wasn't really disappointed with GTA IV... The only negative is that there wasn't much to do after the story missions And Valo, yeah... you'll need subtitles xD2008-12-22 12:15:00

If you want customisation, go for SR2.

If you want an intense story, with brilliant detail, graphics, and characters, go for GTA.

What are you in store for?

*Bring*

(Bad Fonzie Impression) "EEEeeeeeyyyy, Nico eeeets your cuziin. Wanna go bowling?"

*Hang up*

*Bring*

*Throw phone into river*

It's an okay game but by no means as world shatteringly brilliant as it was purported to be.
