A Thousand Suns: Decay (1.2)

Archive: 19 posts

Hello everyone!
A Thousand Suns: Decay is the first level in a series of campaign/story levels that I will be making. This is the first release of it, and I plan to make some tweaks and fixes according to the comments and criticism I get. It is a very short and simple mission that is designed to set up the plot for the rest of the series.

If you would be kind enough to play it and give me feedback, that would be well appreciated. Thank you!

EDIT: F4F anyone?

I just tried your lvl.
It was well made but there are some problems.
At some points, you don't know where to go especially in the dark at the end.
Maybe you should have added some lights a the places we needed to go to open the doors.

BTW the level was good and it was a nice choice to make it Black and White.
Hope you will make a sequel, your scenario was good and I want to know a bit more about it

Were the switches at the start meant to do anything? and was cylinder with the light meant to be stuck down? i managed to get up anyway using the first set of bounce pads..

Definately unique and may befit from maybe some sort of sountrack?

You pull the switch to destroy a block behind you, revealing an area below with a button. You then roll the cylinder into the lower area pushing the button and enabling the bouncepad. Was the switch jammed and was the cylinder stuck?

And I am considering making an original soundtrack. I'm also considering using songs from the Linkin Park album "A Thousand Suns", since that album gave me the idea for the plot.

Hey, I had a go at your level.

While it was far from perfect, the atmosphere you managed to create with the black+white and echo sounds was lovely and eerie (:

Few problems: hard to see where you're going/ what you're supposed to be doing at times. Especially when you have to grab hold of one massive sun - originally I confused it for just a wall before jumping and grabbing it just to see what material it was made out of. If you gave some indication that it was spinning or directed the player towards it that would alleviate the problem. (:

Also I'm glad more people are going for the mysterious/dark vibe nowadays, "back in the day" it was just me and a few others holding the fort (if you want an example, the first level I made on LBP2 was quite similar to yours).

Thanks for the level x

Thanks for the review. I'll make some tweaks according to your suggestions.
My plan is that each level in the series is going to have a different vibe/ambiance to it.
And I love your levels, BTW. <3

I played it, and loved the atmosphere and feel of it all. I would perhaps make it a little more decorative and exciting, but other than that, it was cool. Also, if you accidentally push the cylidrical device off the edge at the beginning of the game, you can't get it back and are forced to restrt. Thanks for playing my level, btw!2011-09-04 18:28:00

The first time I played this nothing went wrong. It was and easy platformer, with basic visuals.
I enjoy simple platformers that are very relaxing, and this was no exception. I would've liked better visuals to look at, though. This still can be done with a single colour. Look at comphermc's level: The Fourth Wall, or Limbo recreations (or the actual game ), or the newest MM pick (I can't remember what it's called...). These levels and others can be used for inspiration.
One the second playthrough I looked for some glitches.
The first one I found was that if you dragged the ball (the one in the beggining) to the left (before you pull the swich), you can drag it off the platform you're on and not be able to get it back, preventing you from continuing the level
The second thing I found was that most of the level is in the back two thick layers, making it possible to jump off to different parts of the level. I jumped down at one point and landed right at the end of the level, so I skipped the majority of it.
I would suggest making as much of the level as you can into one thick layer in the front as much as possible. It would then prevent people from jumping down.
Overall it was a good, original level that need extra polish. I am looking forward to the sequel.

I would like feed on my level:
