How do you single out Community Fonts?

Archive: 11 posts

I recently played Mr_Fusion's Community Font level to get some letters I need.

I got the ones placed in a microchip and then I went over to my moon.

Once in create mode, I opened a font in the microchip and toggled the emitter to produce the said font.

I then captured the emitted group of letters and now have it in my created objects section.

I placed this newly captured group of letters but here lies my problem. I cannot seem to find a way to just pick a single letter from the group because it still recognized as a whole object. I can move and change the material of the single letters but I cannot capture just that single letter. If I delete the other letters, the whole group of letters gets deleted as well.

Anyone know how I can go around this?

It's because you don't "own" the object. Someone else created it. If you were able to collect them individually from someone's level, then they can be used individually. Otherwise, you have a nice alphabet to use.2011-08-31 16:22:00

Recapture the object and save it to your own. Delete the emitted object, then select the one you saved from your own objects and put it in your level.2011-08-31 17:27:00

Yeah , it sucks. Normally I just use the cut out method. Place down your letter set, then place a big piece of material to cover it up, then delete the letters and you are left with a stencil. Then take that and use it as a cut out on another piece of material. Unfortunetly that means your gonna have to fill in all the "A's" and "P's" etc. Kinda sucks but its the only way I know of.

Unless that works?

dang, schmo beat me to it. yeah, do what he said. Also, what I do sometimes is now that I have it captured to "my objects", the dotted lines are now gone in between the letters, so you can pull them around separately, use the stencil method and make new ones, recapture and done.
Anyway, this question has been asked numerous times, there are several threads on this subject. I'll see if I can find the good one for you.

Here you go, read Aya's response #9 and 12 and follow the links there

Thank you guys for the inputs.

As for the solution, I just used Aya's method (in biorogue's link) of making all the other unneeded letters into dissolve material and using a battery to trigger it. I am then left with a single letter of my choice, and then I just capture it. It's kind of tedious if you want all the letters but hey, it works and Im fine with it.

Thanks again guys, much appreciated.

Hi, you have scared me here. Are you saying that you collected the font kit, emitted it, captured it and the captured font still selects as a whole unit?

Was it a particular font? I tested the concept and the idea was that each letter was seperatly selectable and copyable. Usually while holding R2 to pick out the needed letters.

As you have discovered it's tedious pulling them apart so I thought that I was saving people time... And no one seems to have complained yet so I'm hoping that it's a particular one.

Can others confirm that their kits worked?

I did exactly those, and Im trying to use one of Mr. comphermc's font, the neurospace to be exact(correct me If Im wrong).

I emitted the font and then captured it. And after placing it as "my objects", the whole set of alphabet will show up. I can move the single letters anywhere I want but I cannot capture just those single letters. I need to resort to the dissolve method for me to capture the letters I want. And it did it work, just time-consuming.

Anyways, thanks for sharing your community font kit to us and I'll be sure to credit you and Mr. comphermc when I publish it.

Hmmm, this seems to be odd. According to Aya's posts this sounds like a bug, and a major one at that. What's the point of sharing objects if they can't be selected, broken apart and copied?

Perhaps this functionality was put in place to prevent people from stealing and copying items ad nauseum, but it seems to me this is a significant bug and should be addressed by MM.

According to Mr_Fusion, the selected objects should be 100% editable after pasting in your level:

Using Aya's very helpful theories about ownership; all fonts once captured by yourself will be separate letters, and are individually copyable. I tried really hard to keep ownership information to stay with the fonts by naming and theming everything BUT the font itself.

I haven't been able to goof around with this in create mode (haven't been able to do much in LBP2 recently, in fact) but if Mr_Fusion is following the insanely restrictive rules in order to make the fonts editable, they should be. I am thoroughly confused.

Mr_Fusion, is this perhaps related the issues you reported when adding my font to the kit?

Thanks for responding... I tested out the nurospace font by logging in as my brother and collecting the kits, they behave as I expect, which is you have to capture the entire alphabet once emitted and then place from your captured objects.

The entire font will highlight when you pass over a single letter, and will delete as a full alphabet if one letter is deleted.

But I am able to copy a single letter at a time.

On the weekend I will delete my account on my second PS3 entirely and try again as my brother on that PS3. So all variables will be removed. I will be a new person on a different PS3 so there should no question about whether or not it works. I am a little confused if other are having the same issue, I know that the LBP Community is pretty nice, but if I'm misrepresenting the level I thought I'd have seen comments about it by now.

As I mentioned I really hope that it has been working as I expected for everyone, or I will be a little embarrassed. As for crediting me... well... it doesn't seem I did that much for you at this stage. Sorry.

EDIT: If schm0 gets a chance hopefully he can share his results in the meantime.

If I am wrong... I do have a PLAN B to get this working, and I am very sure it'll get around this issue if there is indeed one. The reason I went this direction initially is it is harder to set up each font for sharing using my other idea.
