Team projects and publishing
Archive: 6 posts
I have an idea for a level. I have all the behind the scenes logic done. I just need some backgrounds and some object design work done. I could also use some custom music, but that is not entirely necessary. For those of you that have worked on group projects, how does the publishing usually work? It may sound selfish, but I don't want to compete for plays with four other people on a level I designed. Is it usually a "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" sort of thing, or is it joint ownership? I'm perfectly willing and able to set up some pretty complex logic in exchange for good designs, but I have no idea how this works. | 2011-08-31 07:35:00 Author: tdarb Posts: 689 |
It's something you'll have to organise with your friends/team. I guess if you know them they should understand you publishing, if you did most of the work. | 2011-08-31 08:04:00 Author: Radishlord Posts: 706 |
I think the default structure is, whoever proposes and organizes the level publishes it. I've helped out with logic on levels or shared objects or suggested things but since someone else had the idea, and was working on the project, it was theirs. My enjoyment comes from the creation process during collabs. Assuming others fall into this category it shouldn't be too difficult to establish credit and usage for things created as a team -- the hardest part, as in all business, is finding partners you like to work with. | 2011-08-31 08:50:00 Author: Unknown User |
Many series I've seen, each creator releases a level. Unfortunately, when they MM Pick a series, they only pick the first level. I've also seen groups publish under a PSN ID that relates to the project, not any one creator. So its about the project, not the glory. On the project I'm on, each creator was given a level they are responsible for, and will release that level. Lots of options. | 2011-08-31 13:31:00 Author: CYMBOL Posts: 1230 |
soooo...judging by the responses, I guess there is really no standard way to go about it. any advice on approaching designers? | 2011-09-01 09:22:00 Author: tdarb Posts: 689 |
Well, if you were the first person in this team creation, for which you had to find others to help you with it, based on the standard way of going about it, you would publish it. Unless you initially came up with the idea with four people, the first person involved usually publishes it with all four names in the description. And with finding designers, just tell them that they will be credited greatly for their work. Not only does it sound nice, but it also lets them know that they won't be the one publishing it no matter the work they do, but that they will be credited (usually in the description). | 2011-09-01 09:31:00 Author: Clayton Posts: 181 |
