followers and tags selecting
Archive: 6 posts
Ok, so I have a follower set to follow a tag. Now followers will always select and follow the closest tag. On my level I have placed two tags for testing, and that behavior is as expected, but there is a problem. Initially the follower chooses the correct tag. It jumps right to it. Sometimes though, after that jump, it immediately jumps to the other one and back again. I can't figure out why it would do this. I've tried this very quickly and more slowly. So speed isn't a factor. The difference is that when I set it to go slowly the tag only makes it a short way from the initial tag before coming back. at very slow speeds it isn't even noticeable. The only thing that I can guess is that followers disconnect from their current tag briefly in order to stop. If this is the case, I need some help because I need the object being moved to have a quick snappy placement. Hopping back and forth like that just won't work. Any ideas? | 2011-08-30 21:34:00 Author: tdarb Posts: 689 |
Could you use a selector to only have one tag active at any one time, or do they all need to be active? Is the minimum activation distance set to zero? | 2011-08-30 21:41:00 Author: Xaif Posts: 365 |
minimum distance is set to 0. I tried .1 just for giggles, but that just makes it jump worse; as expected. I suppose I could try to work out some logic to only activate one tag, but i was really hoping to avoid that headache. A selector won't work since it would have to be proximity based. There will be 14 tags. With a possible 4 active at a given time. It would be easier if I could just make a tag stick. | 2011-08-30 21:51:00 Author: tdarb Posts: 689 |
Hmm, maybe it's a glitch with the minimum distance if increasing it makes the problem worse. How about when the object hits the tag (say, have a 0.1 max distance tag sensor on the chip) a 100% dampening anti grav tweaker activates for a 0.1 seconds? Maybe a bit more if that isn't long enough. | 2011-08-30 22:03:00 Author: Xaif Posts: 365 |
oooh...good idea. i'll give that a try in a bit. it sounds like it will work. thanks | 2011-08-30 22:25:00 Author: tdarb Posts: 689 |

If your Tags are to remain static then you could just wire a o.1 max dist. inverted Sensor to another chip with your follower inside it (allowing you to activate/deactivate your follower). If your Tags are not static then this may be more of a headache and would require a second 'lock on' tag to activate at the selected location through a selector cycle which could in turn trigger a switch of followers in your 'homing' logic? | 2011-08-30 22:33:00 Author: CloaknBlagger Posts: 78 |
