Best feeling you've ever gotten playing LBP2?

Archive: 26 posts

So, I'm making an 8-bit platformer; retro, funky, all that jazz. You play as a turtle. Anywho, I showed my friend this level while in development, and apparently his 6-year-old son was watching. Which is awesome. But today he told me that, I guess for the past couple days, his son has been asking to play 'the turtle level.' Which is so awesome. I told the two other creators I was with at the time, and we all shared a series of 'aaaaaaawwwwh!'s. And it made me feel good that I made a level that a father and a son can both enjoy.

How about you?

Either acing Full Metal Rabbit, the last level needed to get the Ace Story Mode trophy. Negativatron took less than 30 minutes, the others usually on first or second try, but this one... not sure why, took me THREE AND A HALF HOURSS }:-|

Also, I just finished a mini demo for my upcoming level, and being in the level with a mic'd player, and hearing his reaction was definitely one of the best feeling I've had playing this game.

Slightly off-topic: I love gaming with my son, when we are able. He didn't take to LBP or LBP2, though. They've become my hobby which I do basically alone. As much as I obsess and enjoy playing, I haven't experienced anything like the joy you must feel having helped make that connection for others...

Back on topic: I get fairly regular tingly feel-good moments for LBP2 when I learn a cool new bit of logic or achieve a neat effect on the Moon. That's what keeps me coming back, more than the interaction or the gameplay. That said it's still a fairly low-voltage satisfaction compared to other aspects of life. For example I read an interview the other day that expressed a world view I had forgotten about, and it gave me this really powerful surge of happiness. Like, "I remember thinking that way! Ohhhh that's great!"

That's a very sweet story, nunsmasher.

My best experience was just after i loaded LBP2 and aced the first chapter then realized i was now able to build whatever i could imagine. I had waited all my gaming life since i first owned a PSone to be able to do this.2011-08-30 09:30:00

That's so sweet . Having said that, 6 year old kids like any old rubbish

Hmmmmm, my best feelings? The first puzzle I ever came up with give me a nice feeling. A feeling that I am actually capable of coming up with my own ideas. I say my own ideas, it was a Lights Out puzzle, but I still managed to figure it out by myself. The logic is really simple, but it was the first time I'd ever really improvised.

Also it was great when I finally released my first level. Although it didn't do very well, it was still a good moment for me. It took a long time to wait, and had the added inconvenience of having to wait for the big PSN outage to pass. I initially tried to post my level at pretty much the same time that the PSN crashed! Talk about timing!

When I first became friends with my now-best-online-friend. The only reason I still play LBP2 as often as I do is so I can spend time with him. 2011-08-30 13:31:00

Arbiekko, I think that was actually meant as if it was because the 6-year old kid liked the level that was retro(old).

I love playing and screwing around and making great contraptions online on my moon, like my banned(?) PSN friend QuantumArchitect, we did a Pok?mon style battle where we create our own ships off-screen from eachother, and then added all these special powerups and counters. One of mine was a wave attack from my ship which raised the water level, rendering his ship useless, but then his ship transformed into a boat D:<

When I create a level or object, with no fuss or hassle or constant undoing or racking my brains, and everything just falls into place with every edit.
It's a very nice feeling, I am currently creating a level with a friend in which I got the feeling. We saw a person advertising this coffee house level (Rather bland, I'm afraid), and I suggested that we could do better than that. So we just got together in create, built up the level smoothly, and had an awesome time. (I'm sure that some of you have done a similiar thing actually.)
And, you can tell that it will be a good level, because if you enjoy creating it others will enjoy playing it.

My best feeling was probably ace'ing 'Into the Heart of the Negativitron' since it was the first time I beat it, and the first time I aced it. So piles of prizes rained from above. XD2011-09-04 21:33:00

when I aced where in the world is avalon...For some reason it took me forever to ace that one. It was about two o'clock in the morning and after I had aced it I quietly was pumping my fist going "YES! YES! YES!"2011-09-04 21:56:00

Best Game Moment for Me:
Was "diving in" and connected to some random persons pod. I could tell straight away from the Pod decoration that they were either quite young, or not that skilled using LBP as a creative tool. After we were done playing a few random levels I left to my Pod and they followed.
They then started to compliment me on my Pod decorations (which I don;t think are anything *that* special) - and after showing off a few they pratically begged me to go back to their Pod to decorate it for them.
They only had the bare basic package - no DLC - so as they were asking me to recreate one of my designs I told them that without certain DLC I wouldn't be able to.
So I went back to basics - and quickly knocked up a Pod Design for them on the Fly.
Just a simple one (by my standards) - black background/Sun decoration top centre/earth sticker on the floor/a few star decorations and jewelry etc. But they were SO appreciative of it.
I even randomly reconnected with them about a week or two later - and they still had my Pod Design active.

It's nice to be appreciated

Wow! some really great stories here. you guys are awesome.

Some of you may relate to this. I am one of those people that fusses and frets over everything I make. I always think it can be better, and usually I am right . So it takes a lot for me to release a level. That may be why it took so long for me to publish anything at all.

I finally released my first LBP2 level, and it's not perfect, but it's pretty good. I loved seeing people take to it fairly well. It was like a validation for me that there's not just one way to make a level, or one type that people like. That's not my best moment though...

The best moment came about a week after publishing it. I tend to check lbp.me daily on the level, and I've noticed one guy that comes back every couple of days and plays again. That is so awesome. I only really wanted to make something I like. The fact that some people liked it once was great, but the fact that a few have liked it well enough to play multiple times, and one guy comes back to it repeatedly, is just crazy to me. Such a good feeling.

It was cool when I put a level up of a cardboard model of a plane and people would make their own camo for it and upload photos of their work.2011-09-07 15:13:00
