Deleting part of an emitted object?
Archive: 5 posts
Hello. I think I remember a few months ago having to break emitted objects and being able to do so. However, few YLODs later it does not seem to work too well. I have an objects with a microchip and inside of it is lots of logic and more microchips. I however want to remake a part of that logic. I seem to be able to move the microchips and most of the logic gates (edit:some gates refuse to move but I want to delete the microchips they are in anyway) as I please, I can for example take them completely out of the first microchip and just place them on a unused holographic material or something but I can't delete them or the whole object gets deleted. Even though they are not visibly connected. I want to be able to delete just a few microchips from this object but can't remember how. I tried searching the forums without luck since I've probably forgotten the most common term. Am I remembering incorrectly or is it possible? Thanks. | 2011-08-29 20:43:00 Author: Unknown User |

Sometimes recapturing the object can correct this, but otherwise you'll probably have to rebuild it from scratch. | 2011-08-29 20:58:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |
Thanks for the quick reply Aya. How does the object ownership work anyway? Does it use the psn account used to create the object or the ps3 the object was created on or some other way? Are there some ways to make sure this does not happen? edit: Seems like recapturing the object made enough of the microchips deletable for what I needed. Thanks! | 2011-08-29 21:02:00 Author: Unknown User |
How does the object ownership work anyway? Does it use the psn account used to create the object or the ps3 the object was created on or some other way? It's quite complicated, but basically objects have no owner initially, and are assigned one the first time they're captured. If the capturing player is signed into PSN, it'll be associated with the PSN account, otherwise (IIRC) it'll be associated with the local user account, which isn't the same thing from the game's POV. After an owner is assigned, that player will always be able to edit the object, but as to whether other players can or not, depends on a fairly complex set of rules. Are there some ways to make sure this does not happen? Best thing is to never assign an owner, which requires that you always keep the original version you built. It's fine to capture it, and place it in another level, but if you want to make changes to it, go back and modify the original version, not the captured version. So, if you build your objects in one or more 'workshop' levels which you just use for storing your creations, they'll always remain editable by anyone. Seems like recapturing the object made enough of the microchips deletable for what I needed. Thanks! Yeah. Sometimes when the object has been emitted, it changes the editability somehow, and recapturing can sometimes correct that. | 2011-08-29 21:27:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |
I think I know a potential solution as I had a similar issue (I owned all creations)... Simply allow the object to be emitted, hit pause and copy the object... for some reason the emitted one is locked but the copy should be editable Hopefully this might help in some way | 2011-08-29 22:18:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma Posts: 1414 |
