Entrance for joining players

Is there any way to make it so that players who join midgame to my level will go to the entrance while the other players still respawn at the checkpoint? The reason is that new players need to go to the entrance to select a sackbot character to play as.



Edit: Rickrock, I believe that in versus levels, each player has their own individual camera, so the death counters are not a problem. My problem is getting joining players to appear at the entrance instead of at the last activated checkpoint. One option that I've been considering is a button that I ask new players to step on which kills them and activates the entrance. But, this button could cause problems if a player who already selected steps on it.

I do not believe we have control over the in-game default camera, which is set to follow the lead player. However, new players entering the level will not be able to see the start, unless you provide a camera pan to the start of the level that is sensor-activated and sequenced for enough time to allow players to choose their sackbot. I have not tried this before, but be wary it could be possible that once the other players are out of view, their life timers may be activated and start counting down. If this is not an issue for you, or the player, due to respawning, then it should work fine.

Also, to ensure the new players complete making their selection before the camera time runs out, you could use logic to verify the selection is made in the allotted amount of time, and if not, you could sequence another camera to provide a limited amount of additional time.

ok heres the problem

1. in co-op mode this might be possible w/ the upincoming detect unspawn player option but it would still be extremely hard to get it to work properly :S
2. in versus, the checkpoints are rendomized, you have no control over where you respown (unles you emit/demit stuff but that's a hassle.

so in all honesty, i can't see a way this could work. idk...

The best option I see is to have the player pass a "no more players join" post

That's too bad . And because of the kind of level it is, it would take away a lot if players couldn't join. I think I will just tell new players to jump on a button that will transport them to character select.. And maybe put a NOT gate on it for sensing the tag on the sackbot so that players who have already choosen cannot go back.2011-08-31 04:08:00
