Will this work in mulitplayer?

Archive: 4 posts

I'm making a level that will require precise synchronization between player control Inputs, emitters, sequencers, and music. Will this be impossible due to lag in online multiplayer? And what about offline multiplayer. Also if it makes a difference, the thermo is only about 1/4 full.2011-08-28 07:47:00

If you don't want it to be multiplayer because of "precise synchronization" between player control Imputs, bla bla bla, try making a 1-Player only level. Hope I helped.2011-08-28 12:06:00

um... offline multiplayer will usually have considerably less lag in these type of levels as a connection between players is not required... online... well it's hard to say, could be a case of experiment and find out, then again it depends entirely on player connections2011-08-28 18:15:00

hI there. Unfortunately, if your looking for percision there isnt really a proper way to do it online as there will always be some sort of delay with internet connection speeds and lag, its unavoidable alas. If people are playing on the same console, there should be no problem with lag as players are using the same game engine.
Hmmm. you can only be truely precise with one player (you could have a close level post over the entrance to make sure its a single player game).
However, if you want multiple players online, what you could do is make it a standard multi-player level, but, when you reach the place that requires precision, have it so just one player has to negociate that part. Or failing that take the unusual step of stating in the level description that 'a certain, or all, of this level requires percision timing between all players and a broadband speed of ??mb to run smoothly'. This however may scare people off playing the level. Maybe make the percision parts so they can be done by one player at a time and that way they will be precise for the individual as you wont need to worry about all players jumping at the same time. Hope this sort of helps
