Copiers copiers copiers!

Archive: 6 posts

OK, so can somebody explain to me what the joy of being a copier is. I mean, if you are a copier, yes you have 1,000 hearts but whats the point if almost everybody hates you? So, i also dont get claiming credit for something you did not make. It doesn't make sense either... So, thanks fo reading! <32011-08-27 16:03:00

Everyone who puts their levels as copyable, quite frankly, deserves to be robbed.
You can't expect people to not do it, it's just human nature.
When people see all these great levels, with thousands of plays, they will try to make a level too! But not everyone is capable of doing that, so instead they just steal something, because they want to be famous. Regardless if they made the level themselves or not.

Because they think the number of hearts somehow gives them a worthy reputation in the game, even if they spent no effort and made no original levels. That's what makes them real noobs. They're kids basically, they think getting hearts from H4H and copied tuff is somehow standard procedure.2011-08-27 17:01:00

It is the human nature, when most people see the word 'copy', they will copy and publish as thier own...

Truely, I wish they would just take it out...

What SnipySev said!

Long rant, but it can be boiled down to the first sentence:

Social networking and stats tracking is its own stupid game. People who play that game aren't playing LBP for the community, and sadly the Internet's "content propagators" are sh*thole thieves outnumbering creators ten to one. You make something, thousands of people link to it or copy it or dress it up to profit themselves. It's why you get one funny video duplicated across hundreds of thousands of relink websites. Think of eBaums, the Youtube-ish college idiot's resource for "funny videos" that constantly steals other people's creations and brands it as eBaums, then tries to sue other sites for reusing any video that says eBaums on it.

Thieves and copiers aren't playing to make friends, they're riding the high of bigger numbers and the empty thrill of mass anonymous interaction, by any means necessary. It makes less sense than eBaums though, as nobody on LBP is making money or gaining real world notoriety. It's a very limited form of Internet fame. But addicts and idiots and thieves, they may not even realize their own shallowness. Although I am sure some do and just don't care. "It's a game. U mad bro?"

I really hate a lot of the elements of new media. It continues to teach very young people that the anonymity of the Internet == aggressive dishonesty, baiting and theft are fair means to entertain yourself. And this is confirmed by seeing older kids and adults do it nonstop - media piracy, for example, or link farming to boost one's own revenue or status.

The worst ones are the bullies. They don't care about what they copy or who plays it. It's about the adversity:

"I want what you have and I'mma take it. If you fight me back, I want to crush you. That's all I care about. I don't need your dumb toy, I just want to take it, and I want you to be upset so I can ride the emotional high of whatever happens next. I don't even know that I want this, I've been getting away with taking stuff for so long I'm unprepared for confrontation so expect me to be a piece of sh*t about it when it comes to that... now gimme!"

Opportunity alone compels many people to steal, of course, too. Even very nice people under normal, constrained situations will grab a few extra packets of ketchup or take a page out of a magazine if they love it. That much easier to do if something is copied instead of outright stolen. There's no such thing as scarcity in the digital world.
