Songs and Nursery Rhymes From Your Childhood

Archive: 2 posts

Very simple question, what songs and nursery rhymes do you remember from when you were a child?

In terms of more traditional folkey music, I remember that we had two VHS tapes of various nursery rhymes done out in song. Amongst them were Polly Put the Kettle On, Bingo, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and it had lots of others. The style it was done in was pretty weird, if I remember right. I also recall, back in Special School, one particular music class where we learned to sing Grand Old Duke of York. I can still sing it now.

In terms of more 'mainstream' music, the first song I remember hearing on the radio was Sonique's 'It Feels So Good', with Samantha Mumba's 'Gotta Tell You' and Lonestar's rendition of 'Amazed' also being around at the time. Not that we didn't have music before 2000 though; on casette tape, me and my sister had the Spice Girls, Steps, and...Aqua's 'Barbie Girl' (so saccharine at the same, but I implore anyone who remembers it to relisten to it. It's strangely dark for a teeny bopper song). My dad also used to let me listen to a Eurhymics tape as well. The first CD that got into our house was a Britney Spears album that belonged to my sister, I instead got Ricky Martin's debut album (I like Ricky Martin still, before you ask).

So...yeah.
