Advertising on Cool Pages
Archive: 20 posts
Do you think it's alright to do it? I mean leaving Advertising Comments on the levels on Cool Pages. Because i tried doing it today, and after some hours i got THE BEST REVIEW EVAH, on my Zelda level. "Bad" That's it. No motivation, no suggestions on how to improve... Then, i got the BEST COMMENT EVAH, on the same level. Some guy all ****** off. " No im not plaiyng ur stupid zedla level!" Geez, it's not like i'm pointing a gun at your head, forcing you to play it! Anyone got better results by doing this? Because if this is the best audience you get, it's pretty much not worth it! Now excuse me i'm off creating "FREE STUFFZ EXPLOSIVES SHARXS SURVIVAL" so after Cool Pages Advertising it will receive critical acclaim and make me the most famous LBP CREATOR EVAAAAAAAAAAAH. | 2011-08-25 22:36:00 Author: Flame Dragon Posts: 312 |
Advertising to the wrong audience, mostly kids will play cool page levels as they're readily available. If you want feedback have you tried F4F in the level showcase? Plenty of others who would appreciate constructive feedback there. | 2011-08-25 22:43:00 Author: Radishlord Posts: 706 |
I'm already doing some F4F, i just wanted to see what would happen by doing it, for giggles... | 2011-08-25 22:46:00 Author: Flame Dragon Posts: 312 |
I have 'advertised' my level to specific people that have similar levels I guess. Im a BTTF fan and look for other BTTF stages out there play them and leave a review on what I like etc... I usually throw in 'if you are a fan of BTTF I think you my like my efforts'. I have also commented directly on others profiles if they have left a review on a BTTF stage saying that they are a fan, letting them know that they may like what I have to offer. The response was good, I saw some added traffic and a some great comments and a friend invite come from it. But it wasn't generic PLAY MY LEVEL spam. | 2011-08-25 23:28:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |
Ive been lucky enough to have a few successful levels, and they get all kinds of Play My Level! comments. I don't mind, as long as they don't spam it again and again, or post it directly on my profile. I'll leave a play my level request, but I delete all spammers whether its posts, or pics. I leave up all bad reviews too, as long as they are not purposefully offensive. I realize I've been lucky, and feel bad for anyone who hasn't had their lucky shot too, so i let the requests stay. Personally, if I am looking to publicize a level, I stick to forums. | 2011-08-26 00:07:00 Author: CYMBOL Posts: 1230 |
I only play in-game advertised levels if the theme interests me, or they have left feedback on my own levels. I don't pay attention to any others. Just spam imo. | 2011-08-26 00:36:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
Personally I would think either nobody would pay attention or it would invite spammers. There are plenty of other ways to spread the word, like this great site here. | 2011-08-26 05:08:00 Author: tanrockstan34 Posts: 1076 |
Even if I did have a level worth playing, I'd be deathly afraid of doing any advertising for it. I don't know why, maybe it's because I feel inadequate to do it. The only relevant levels I could advertise on anyway are Sonic costume levels, so it's all moot. | 2011-08-26 11:43:00 Author: Vector-Espio-Fan Posts: 119 |
To me, the comments are supposed to be for feedback on the level and not for advertising other levels. I find it depressing to see a 'Play my level' on one of mine. I rarely delete those comments unless they do it several times, but still I think it is really tacky. I seriously doubt anyone goes to the comments on levels to find levels to play and the only way they see them is if they went to check out the comments left by others or they were leaving a comment themselves. In other words, a huge waste of time and simply irritates the level creator. | 2011-08-26 12:43:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
I don't really think having to 'advertise' your level on someone else's successful level is a very good way of getting plays. If all you advertisers out there thought about the situation a bit more maybe you could come up with the idea of make a thoughtful review while comparing it to your level - and then it'd be okay since you're writing a kind review as well as adding something extra. I've also learned that in order to get plays you need to actually try to get people to play it in a non-spammy way. Ask your friends to play it. Put it on the Level Showcase. Hopefully, if your level has an intricate enough badge and/or name, someone will play it based off of their news feed. Then it'll spread. See? | 2011-08-26 19:14:00 Author: Julianotis1 Posts: 110 |
I'm dreading the release of my level, cuz odds are that it will get like 10 plays. ;_; | 2011-08-26 19:17:00 Author: nunsmasher Posts: 247 |
the way i advertise is to take a pic of my level title and upload it to the level pictures. but im not sure if it truly works..and i dont feel guilty. maybe advertising works well if you explain what the levels about and add pizzazz? but idk ... | 2011-08-26 20:18:00 Author: majormel84 Posts: 398 |
Sorry to say, but those type of pics I always delete. To me it is supposed to be about celebrating what you liked in the level and that you had fun. Sorta like vacation pics. I think you would do much better if you added some photos of your levels to your actual level threads. All of yours are basically naked. It is a waste to work hard on a level, but not even take the time to show a pic on your level thread. To most folks it simply says "pass". Take a look at one of mine (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=54338-Space-Escape-Pinball) to see what I mean.. Dress it up! Show it off! | 2011-08-26 21:10:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
Havent published a level yet but...I think theres a good way to advertise other than just saying play my level. Usually giving general feedback to the game and then asking people to try yours out is a more effective strategy than mindless spamming--at least from what I have observed. I dont see whats wrong with it, i mean not everyone has 10000 hearts and many would be happy just having 100 plays on their levels. Generally, the more active you are with the community, the more plays you get. Of course, this is all just from observation, and it would be a good idea to advertise on various forums, mainly here though. | 2011-08-26 21:20:00 Author: Rpg Maker Posts: 877 |

Yeah, every Noob is spamming the comments of popular levels with "Play my Level" comments. It means that those comment pages are now just a slew of "Play My Level" comments - with none standing out from any other. Say something funny/witty/constructive/relevant and you'll have a much higher chance of someone visiting your planet | 2011-08-26 23:41:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
Personally I consider it incredibly rude to post "play my level" comments in a person's level comments. As has been said, the comments are meant for comments about their level, not yours. Mostly I don't worry too much about it, but I look through my level comments every now and then and if I see advertisements, I'll delete them. The exception is if it's a level with a similar theme. I've made a few friends after they posted a comment on one of my mech levels asking if I'd try out their mech levels, and I've allowed some ads for Star Wars levels to stay on my lightsaber level. In those cases it makes more sense and seems a bit more thought out, so it's less like they're just trying to use me. | 2011-08-28 23:56:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
Advertising your level on the comments is not a problem, since the comments on Cool Levels are already a mess of stupidity. But if you're posting reviews that say "lol play my lvls h4h", that'll really just convince mean people like myself to play your levels and give a brutally honest review on them. | 2011-08-29 03:23:00 Author: Chdonga Posts: 388 |

I reached out to creators of other BTTF themed levels because they're also clearly fans and let them know specifically that they may enjoy what I have to offer. I also don't have a problem with people doing that on my stages... because I'm likely to check them out myself, and any other fans my have a great afternoon jumping from one BTTF stage to another. I have deleted a generic PLAY MY LEVEL post but was also pretty excited to get it. Because it was my first. I also took great pleasure in deleting a close up picture of a half cat with peroxide blond hero hair from my photo stream. | 2011-09-01 08:29:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |
