Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy 1
Archive: 18 posts
Hey guys I finally have my first full lbp2 level out! So this level has been in the making for about 6 months, most of the time was spend teaching myself the new logic and loads of small editing. I procrastinated this level too so that may be 2 months right there Anyways this level is the first in a series recreation of the original Jak & Daxter ps2 game. I've tried to tailor it to be almost identical to the orignal. I hope you guys enjoy it and have fun, one important thing to note, this level uses emmiters for the level so if you don't play by yourself or have a fancy dacorated and stickered costume, the emitters will fail so please keep that in mind Also I would like to thank the following individuals who helped me along the way: Comphermc, his littlebigtutorials vids really helped me get my logic on iBubek for his sackbot emotions microchip Deviangeek for his sackbot checkpoint system L1GhTmArE for his day/night cycle All my beta testers, you know who you are Random friends for the awesome moral support The lbp community, all of you guys had something interesting going on, whether it was a small tutorial or a random post that got my mighty brain gears up and running, I had to learn everything about lbp2 for making this and I owe you guys a nice big 'ole <3 So enjoy! http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38441 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38442 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38443 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38444 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38445 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38446 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38447 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38448 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=38449 Teaser Vid Courtesy Of MrFusion Who Is An Almighty Awesome Dude http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4UcxjflHWkPlease provide feedback first before asking me to play your level http://lbp.me/v/5nced4 | 2011-08-25 17:43:00 Author: damaz10 Posts: 771 |
I uploaded some 2 photos of my falling out of the world The bridge, where you're first told about the vent thing, you can fall off and not get back up because you can't die, if you run into the stone wall while your on the water, you fall through :3 | 2011-08-25 23:46:00 Author: Tadao-ZM Posts: 114 |
Great stuff! Amazing detail, layout and logic! There are so many little details that people are going to miss like the cycling day/night. You don't realise its happened until its dark! I got all the pickups, so yay me and the mechanics work really well. You can double jump over the pit that recommends you do the running roll though. I also couldn't pick up the prize bubble next to the waterfall. At the start menu it isn't really obvious that there is an intro, which is a shame as it's such a good cut scene, except you may want to check the ending spawn as it dumped me way out to sea and I fell throughout the level floor. Also there are still two camera issues, the first in the opening titles, you can *just* see the logo on the right hand side, and on the map screen you can *just* see the blank level's edge. To other's these may seem like such small issues, but when your playing a level this polished there isn't much else to offer help with. I do think that the green spheres could have a small amount (a very small) of Follow on them so that the pick up is more reliable, sometimes you seem to walk through them and it doesn't collect it. During the game everything behaved as expected but there was a stage where the sticking didn't load in for a few seconds, but can't blame you for that. EDIT: Almost forgot I did get stuck at one point http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx302/isaiah91/e5ff082e8ae448880bb4c20c1de2c9bbc9f4f6dc.jpg I slipped off of the third pillar and got wedged between a rock and a hard place. But the 'reset' on L3 got me clear. Awesome, awesome stage. | 2011-08-26 00:05:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |
I uploaded some 2 photos of my falling out of the world The bridge, wear you're first told about the vent thing, you can fall off and not get back up because you can't die, if you run into the stone wall while your on the water, you fall through :3 Duly noted, will fix this asap thanks for the heads up! I also couldn't pick up the prize bubble next to the waterfall. Fixed this seems my level won't let me add more than one prize bubble At the start menu it isn't really obvious that there is an intro, which is a shame as it's such a good cut scene, except you may want to check the ending spawn as it dumped me way out to sea and I fell throughout the level floor. Also there are still two camera issues, the first in the opening titles, you can *just* see the logo on the right hand side, and on the map screen you can *just* see the blank level's edge. I'm guessing that you have a HD tv, I'll have to fix that later on, I can't tell myself because of my uber awesome 480p tv To other's these may seem like such small issues, but when your playing a level this polished there isn't much else to offer help with. I do think that the green spheres could have a small amount (a very small) of Follow on them so that the pick up is more reliable, sometimes you seem to walk through them and it doesn't collect it. I don't expect the orbs and eco to be just a brezzy walkthrough so I left it with a small radius for collection, otherwise there's no effort During the game everything behaved as expected but there was a stage where the sticking didn't load in for a few seconds, but can't blame you for that. Sad story, this level and probably level 2 has the sticker glitch I'm afraid EDIT: Almost forgot I did get stuck at one point http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx302/isaiah91/e5ff082e8ae448880bb4c20c1de2c9bbc9f4f6dc.jpg I slipped off of the third pillar and got wedged between a rock and a hard place. But the 'reset' on L3 got me clear. Awesome, awesome stage. Thanks for the feedback and play, I'm excited first of all that it has 100 yay ratio, means I did something right Glad you enjoyed it, unfortunately it has bugged a few players, the thermo is at like 97% right now so it's bound to happen. | 2011-08-26 01:31:00 Author: damaz10 Posts: 771 |

Duly noted, will fix this asap thanks for the heads up! Gah, I said "wear" instead of "where" -facedesk- I never make mistakes like that, I must be really tired. Also, I forgot to say: You're level is awesome bro ^_^ though I didn't play much, after the glitch I went back to work on my own, I could tell it was a wonderful piece and shall be playing it again later when I haz the cheezburger. I mean time. | 2011-08-26 02:21:00 Author: Tadao-ZM Posts: 114 |
I'm guessing that you have a HD tv, I'll have to fix that later on, I can't tell myself because of my uber awesome 480p tv That I do, it's actually a 22" one I got for free when I bought my 50"... ahhh consumerism. I don't expect the orbs and eco to be just a brezzy walkthrough so I left it with a small radius for collection, otherwise there's no effort I love when creators justify their design choices it always gives some great insight into the creation process Again, great level, and great stats... it's trending at number 2 at the moment and will probably start getting spammed with "PLAY MY LEVEL" shortly as it drifting toward the top of the 3rd page of Cool Levels. ...Not that I watch stats that much... Although I see someone booed my comment. That makes me so angry! I think I'll go and be the first to boo your stage out of spite | 2011-08-26 05:23:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |
This is a very good, well-polished level, that actually captures the feel of the original games. Nicely designed terrain with lotsa detail. Great job on the islands in the background. Easily controlable sackbot that moves fluidly. Entertaining gameplay. Great job. Can't wait for the next parts. I've been waiting for this, glad to see it's completed and hopefully I can get to it this weekend. Can't wait. I finally got to play this and I was most impressed. You made an an excellent tribute to a great game. The details in this level are astouding and you make great use of the extra layers glitch. You've got all the core components from Jak & Daxter in here and for me the controls were pretty intuitive, although I did have a little trouble perfecting the long jump, but it was not a level killer. This is truly an amazing level and I can't wait to see more. Thank you for the experience | 2011-08-26 13:41:00 Author: biorogue Posts: 8424 |
At first glance, I thought it was just any other level that was based on a famous PS2 game. I was wrong. VERY WRONG. This is so far the best level that is based on a video game. The details were amazing! It was so accurate to the actual game, it felt like I was actually playing Jak and Daxter (I know this because I have the game). Even the controls were [amazingly] accurate. You made every feature in this level, which really suprised me. The green and blue eco, the precursor orbs, and the power cells. This was a very well done level. Can't wait to see what's more! Try mine: http://lbp.me/v/5gkh53 | 2011-08-26 16:54:00 Author: FEAR Posts: 337 |
Thanks pickled-punk and FEAR, I will feedback soon, yeah I desgined it to be just like the game, even the little map screen is based off the ps2 game pamplet, before I started on this I went and bought the game and played it again, I'm glad you guys enjoyed it, I like Jak & Daxter just as much and it's what inspired me to start this level series. Loads more to come in level 2 and I may take some time but I'm sticking with this series indefinetly. | 2011-08-26 18:18:00 Author: damaz10 Posts: 771 |
Brilliant stuff! I thoroughly enjoyed playing this one. However, I did run into a few problems which may be related to the level overheating. The first time, I fell to the floor once the intro had finished. The second time, my PS3 froze and the third time, the whole right side of the level disappeared so I was able to jump to the floor. Maybe separating the intro from the main level would be some help? Also, you can get up to the top level at the glitched prize bubble by super-jumping so you don't have to go through that round gate. Looking forward to the next one! | 2011-08-26 20:29:00 Author: Rhys125 Posts: 841 |
Maybe separating the intro from the main level would be some help? I completely agreed with him about separating the intro and main level. This way, the level won't get glitchy, and there will be fewer problems. Anyways, awesome level! VISUALS: The layer glitch looked superb with the amazing decoration usage and the ocean look. The sackbots looked exactly like the sack person versions of the "Jak and Daxter" characters, and intro movie recaptures the intro cinematic of "Jak and Daxter". SOUND: Good music choices. GAMEPLAY: The controls of Jak are well put, but sometimes it gets out of control when you do the long jump or punch attack (not a complaint). I did get stuck in a part Mr. Fusion pictured, and when I collected all the items (at least I think I did), nothing happened. Either the scoreboard disappeared, the last cinematic part failed, or you didn't add it. OVERALL: It is a good remake of the first level and intro movie of "Jak and Daxter", despite some problems I encountered. A yay and positive review. Great level it was the best remake i have seen yet of Jak and Daxter and i really can't wait to see more. The intro was great i really liked how you made Daxter he was just like in the real game. The controls were great except maybe i would change the checkpoint reset to R3 instead of L3 as sometimes when i tried to do the long jump i would press the L3 button too hard by accident and end up restarting at the closest checkpoint. This could just be that my controller is getting a little too sensitive and loose in places though. Also once i had collected all the orbs and other artifacts and things the portal did not open so i couldn't complete the level. I'm not sure if it was a game glitch or if i missed something but i tested it two times with the same result. BTW i have to say the detail was really great especially the background though there were a few errors with stickers. After i had got about half way into the level a few of the stickers on the trees and the orbs and the flies disappeared. This could be because there are too many in one area at a time. The funny thing was there were no yellow ! stickers appearing so that was good. Overall an absolutely great level that brought back fond memories. And i see its now got 1000+ plays great job and i hope it gets lots more. I don't understand why it only has 300+ yays though. Maybe its too hard for the kiddies. | 2011-08-28 02:19:00 Author: Lordwarblade Posts: 761 |

I don't think there is a R3 button on the controllinator, I may be mistaken but I think MM didn't inlclude that, sorry for the accidental resets though Also once i had collected all the orbs and other artifacts and things the portal did not open so i couldn't complete the level. I'm not sure if it was a game glitch or if i missed something but i tested it two times with the same result. The warp gate is activated by stepping on the button in front of it, alot of people seemed to have missed this, I added more to the subtitled speech and now it says to activate and push the button to return to the Sage's lab. The funny thing was there were no yellow ! stickers appearing so that was good. This is actually a glitch that happens on only one part of my level, it's unreversible as far as I can tell, I don't know how to fix this I hope someone finds out soon Overall an absolutely great level that brought back fond memories. And i see its now got 1000+ plays great job and i hope it gets lots more. I don't understand why it only has 300+ yays though. Maybe its too hard for the kiddies. Yeah, well at least they played it so I'm fine witht that | 2011-08-28 20:56:00 Author: damaz10 Posts: 771 |

I actually tried this on the second play through but it still didn't work. I accidentally clicked through the speech the first time round and couldn't get it back up. I will defenitly test it again though to finish the level. | 2011-08-30 00:39:00 Author: Lordwarblade Posts: 761 |
