TRAPPED: The Last Hope (1 Player Survival)

CraftWorld has been captured by an Ultimate Evil! This Evil has made everything and everyone live in misery. The only way to realease CraftWorld is the Key of Freedom. The Key is kept on the 5th floor of the most dangerous Tower created. Many have tried to Recieve the Key, but all have failed in their quest. Now it is up to you. You are the LAST hope for Craft World. But be careful, On every floor a challenge awaits. If you die or fail any of the challenges, You will be trapped with the others who failed to capture the Key. CraftWorld is counting on you.

We have managed to recover some pictures that were taken by the missing and trapped sackboys and sackgirls, See if you can make sense of them.

Fun as hell, i got to challenge number 3 and died at the least second, and i missed one difference!
Dang it.

The menu is also very cool, this is well done, nothing much i can say here.

An excellent concept. I also really like your chunky art stye. I got through to "spot the difference".

Notes:
Instructions - you mean to say "consists of", but you said "consits of" instead.
Egg Box - right now, there is a strong incentive for smart players to ignore either the left or the right side. The bounce pads are clearly a sucker's game. The smart money is to stand on a button you've already hit and wait for far side boxes to pass by. If this is a strategy you mean for players to use, no changes are necessary.
Cupcakes - to be blunt, there is no point to this game. I started in the top left, ate the first five, and awaited the result. Without any means of determining which cupcakes are which ahead of time, this is just a way to kill players out of the challenge without giving them an opportunity to defend themselves. Given how hard you worked on making the other challenges skill-based, this seems like a shame.
Camera reverse jump - this was a really fun challenge. Difficult, but each obstacle clearly showed the player how to proceed, leaving him to succeed or fail on his own skill. None of the obstacles was overly cheap. However, the time ran out on me and did not end the level.
Spot the difference - great job on this. A lot of effort, and a great overall outcome.

I suggest you add voiceover to the instructions, since you're already using a sequencer. Hearing and reading simultaneously will help the instructions move by more quickly. With just reading, the subtitles will be too fast for some, and too slow for others. And besides, many people have their subtitles turned off and don't know it.

I think your timers are a bit too fast for Easy Mode, but that's a decision you have to make for yourself. Difficulty settings are the hardest thing to gauge on LBP, and someone will always try to second-guess you. Once you figure out what difficulty YOU like, set yourself to that, and leave it be. That said, remember your levels will always be easier for you than they are for others.

Really liked the presentation and overall original level concept.
Leans toward strategy and puzzles but the gameplay curve is steep right from the start, which will appeal to players who enjoy a challenge. Others may appreciate a slightly reduced play curve, slowing the egg boxes etc so they can work into the latter stages of the level, leaving them with some feeling of accomplishment even if they don't beat the tougher latter stages. Good level.

Hey Guys,
I just want to say thanks for the individual feedback and have taken your notes on board. I plan to make a few changes later on to the game, especially to cupcake game as I have seen that it gives the player an unfair chance of succeeding the to the next level. If anyone has any ideas on what that level could be replaced by I would be grateful to hear suggestions.

As for the F4F levels, I will try to get round to all of them hopefully within the next week or two. I am highly looking forward to playing them and giving feedback.

In Progress: Currently I have another project under way so that will hopefully be done in a couple of months fingers crossed

I just finished playing through this on Easy last night, and it was pretty fun! Especially the Mirrored Floor. But, I think I should list my criticisms:

-The egg game needs to be a bit more random. After the third time, I pretty much knew that by skipping the direction right off the bat, I'd get a VERY easy spread of green and yellow, whose buttons were right next to one another. Maybe setting it up to a randomizer or a large amount of outputs on a selector might help?
-I agree about the cupcake game--I just ate the center, and two bottom corners all the time.
-The mirrored floor was easily my favorite. I actually turned the controller upside down until I got to the grappling hook segment, where I just very carefully guided him. I loved doing that, haha.
-The spot the difference was really well done! The amount of detail you put into it made it really hard for me to find them all. It took me a good six tries or so before I got them all.
-The last floor was great. A deliciously evil challenge, and the kind I love. It makes you look at the level in a whole other way when you first his the last challenge.

All in all, it was a really well done level. I'd have gone for hard, but I frustrated myself enough for one evening, haha. I'll probably give it another shot today, though.

Thnx for the feedback. If you got a level you want feedback on, Im happy to help. The Cupcake is a DEFINATE to go. Believe it or not, that actually took me the longest to make (cas of all the logic) but I'm thinking of a "Defend yourself from sackbots for 60 seconds Level for a replacement. And as for Hard mode, That is just really hard lol. Ive only ever completed hard mode twice, but I thought to add it in for people who want more of a challenge.2011-08-27 21:41:00

Just played your level. Thought it was pretty fun and it looks great.

Now I really like hard levels but I think yours is a bit too hard with 'easy' mode. The challenges are great and definately doable but the time you get for the mirror challenge and spot the differences is just not enough. Had to restart 3 times for the mirror one and got 9 or 10 differences after that. Didn't really want to restart again after that but I did anyway and passed it with 1 second left. Maybe double the time for those two challenges for easy mode, would definately make it more enjoyable. I'm not a huge fan of timed challenges anyway. There would still be hard mode for the people who want a bigger challenge then.

Also something about the first one with the eggs. Gets pretty annoying sometimes when you use the bounce pads, hit the button and then the box has already passed so you end up losing points since it gets into the next box. Think they move a bit too fast. But it's still easily doable, like others have said, if you just use only the yellow and green buttons instead of all 4 buttons.

I have nothing bad to say about the cakes. Might be unfair but I just really like the idea. You'd have to be really unlucky to fail that one anyway. Are they even random though or is it always the same 3 cakes?

And challenge nr 5, pretty fun as well. Only problem is that you can't really see the top 2 answers cause it's dark there. Might want to fix that cause with some questions I got I had no idea what the top 2 answers were and I answered wrong. And maybe again a bit too hard since you have to do it all over again to see the real ending. Took me 3 tries again. Didn't bother with hard mode after that.

One more problem though, after I passed challenge 5 I got that cutscene but while I was watching it another question of challenge 5 popped up. Randomly picked an answer and it finished the level after that (gold one, not the cage/trapped one). Don't think that was supposed to happen.

The level was fun to play though and was really happy when I finally beat all 5 challenges. Looking forward to your next project, or any changes to the challenges of this level.

For randomization in the egg room, consider rigging the randomizer to "add 1 then reset." Then, the most of the same color in a row you can get is two.2011-08-28 04:17:00

Updates: Today I have worked on some updates here they are per level.

Level 1 (Egg Boxes)
------------------------
- The Randomizer is "hopefully" a bit more random (cant help if it gives you a lucky row of boxes the same or adjacent colours)
- The Conveyor Belt is slightly slower
- Bounce Pads are gone (Hopefully making button accuracy better for the player)

Level 2 (Cupcakes) ( Staying for a while, Changing it may take a while)

- Randomizer to make different 3 cupcakes poison

Level 3 (Upside Down)
----------------------------
- On Easy, the timer starts when you pass the start timer glass (Which is by the last plasma pillar)
- On Hard, the timer starts when you first exit the Controlinator at the begging of the stage.
- An Extra Checkpoint added by bounce Pads at the bottom left of the gameplay area

Level 4 (Spot The Diff)
----------------------------
Nothing has changed, reasons being you play once and you find maybe half of them, you play again know where one half is then hopefully find the rest. Once you know where they eventually are after 2 or 3 plays you can go through it quickly. But when its on hard mode, its so much harder, trust me.

Level 5 (The Key Quiz)
-----------------------------
- Lights have been added hopefully showing all answers clearly
- Questions have an on/off switch so that hopefully that no questions will generate after you complete the level.

Hope you guys can test these out and see if it is an improvement or not. Thnx Again People, youve helped

Played your level again. Really like the changes you've made, definately works a lot better now so good job! The egg boxes are definately more random now. Also good to see the cakes being random as well now, was a bit too easy otherwise. Could also see all the answers at stage 5 now and didn't get any random question anymore after completing it so that seems fixed as well.

Still a little suggestion though if you don't mind.
While I like the removal of the bounce pads at the egg challenge it still takes a bit too long to get to the buttons sometimes. Especially when you first get a green box and then a blue one. It's doable but you have to be really fast. What would work better is if you'd make the buttons upside down and closer to eachother, can just keep running then and jump to press the button. Maybe they don't even have to be closer, should already be faster anyway. But it works as it is now as well, it just gets a bit annoying sometimes. Ofcourse I could just skip one box as well.. enough time for it anyway.

I had another problem as well, at stage 5 again. I answered 4 questions right and when I pressed L1 to get the next one it didn't show up. Pressed it again and still nothing showed (the text 'loading' did show up though). Then I pressed for the 3rd time and a question showed up. Tried stage 5 again after that and didn't get it anymore so I don't know what happened.

Enjoyed playing it more now anyway since I knew what to do so it was a bit easier, though I still had to redo stage 5 3 times.


Anyway, I also tried hard mode this time and it was a very a fun challenge as well. Had some more problems here though. Seeing as I don't want to spoil anything for other players who want to try hard mode I'll put this between spoiler tags.
- First off, I really liked the egg challenge in hard mode! No problems here, except the same suggestion as with easy mode.

- At the cake stage you're supposed to get trapped when you eat 1 poisoned cake. Well, I ate 1 poisoned cake and didn't get trapped. Also not after 2 poisoned cakes so this stage seems to work the same as on easy mode right now. Think it might be a better idea to change this stage anyway. Just put 5 poisoned cakes in there instead of 3. Bit more fair than getting trapped already on 1 poisoned cake. You'd have to change the question about it in stage 5 as well though.

- The mirror stage. That moving wall was so annoying! Great though so don't change that. The problem here was that I ran out of time but didn't get trapped. It just let me finish the stage and continue.

- Spot the differences stage. While it definately makes the challenge harder I think it's a bit too much. I did still get through it first time with just a few seconds left but it was a big pain for my eyes. On the left it was fine but on the right it just kept flashing too much, couldn't see anything at all. Should make it the same as on the left, would be better I think.

- Stage 5 seemed exactly the same as on easy mode, thought there would be different questions that would be harder. Don't know if you intended this stage to be the same or not.

- Got through hard mode after 2 tries and was expecting a different ending but I got the same one instead. Maybe a good idea to put a different ending if possible, would look much better.

Hope this will help again to make it even better. I already really like it now.

Hmmmm, It seems there have been a few glitches (Which is understandable with the amount of logic in the level). Ill try and fix as many problems as I can from you and other comments I have had else where. For now I think I might focus on the harder stages first. The questions were the meant to be the same. Theres a group of 15-20 different questions on a randomizer so hopefully not all the same. As for the L1 problem, I think thats to do with the emitting questions. I have tried fixing it before but nothing worked. But as you said just keep pressing L1 will eventually generate another one. Thnx for liking it more after it having some pretty big updates. Im also going to start work on an alternative level 2. Im thinking of a DEFEND YOURSELF AGAINST SACKBOTS.

Help: Do you think hard mode should stay in this one level or have another level for it?

You mean for the cakes or what? Keeping hard mode is fine, but keep it fair for the player though. Getting trapped if you eat just 1 poisoned cake is a bit too hard. If I'd have to choose between cakes and defend yourself from sackbots though, I'd go for the sackbots.
