The Lost: To Continue?

Archive: 10 posts

Hey there all,

As you may or may not know, I published a level a long way back entitled The Lost. It was a crime based thriller level, which was based on a Serial Abduction and Murder investigation. It was MM Picked and did quite well for itself, despite being only a DEMO version. Now, we fast forward around 5 months on, and here we are. Not much has been added to the level since it was originally published, and I am getting a multitude of requests to continue the series. Truth is, a further two episodes have been created, but not yet open to public consumption.

The only problem is, you see, that when I originally created this level series, I made it up as I went along, and it soon occurred to me that I may well have bitten off more than I could chew. For this reason, I took a break from the level series, and even started another similar level series which I planned out from the start - and which should take only around 7 level slots, as opposed to an unknown amount of levels.

So, my question to you guys - Should The Lost be continued, or should I abandon it, and instead create this new, similar level series. Up to you guys!

If anyone wants to play the following two chapters of The Lost before making your decision, hit me a PM and I'll make it happen - just keep it quiet though please!

Cheers! Let me know what you think I should do - this level is for the community, so I think it's only fair you guys choose!

you shouldn't go down the road I did; The one where you feel obligated to serve the community. Create what you enjoy creating. If the Lost is a chore for you, take a break, or make it new and exciting for YOU to create. Don't worry about what WE think 2011-08-24 22:39:00

You should create whatever you want to create. It doesn't matter what other people want.
This is your spare time and you should enjoy whatever it is you're doing and it shouldn't feel like a chore.
The Lost is exceptional work and it'd be great to play the full series but most people would understand if it doesn't continue because you're not sure what direction it's going in.
Just create whatever you're happy with because whatever that may be, I'm sure everyone else will enjoy it when its published.

yeah, what they said man, Create what you want. If it's not in you to finish it or you lost interest it or something, I don't think people can fault you for that. I played it awhile back and have been curious how it turns out, the story that is, but I'm not gonna freak out if it's not continued. The bottom line is, who do you create for? You. No one else.2011-08-24 23:22:00

In all honesty, you're a great creator, and you only have so many level spaces. If The Lost doesn't seem like something you want to use your remaining level spaces on, then don't. You may regret it when you've filled your earth. Also, I would love to see what else you can come up with 2011-08-26 07:14:00

Hey there guys! Sorry for the late replies!

Thanks for all the support - I really appreciate it! After a little while on LBP, reading just comments left on the level sometimes makes you feel a little unappreciated - so it's nice to know the LBP Community isn't all bad!

I think I'll wait a little before continuing, if at all. I can't help but think I bit off a bit more than I could chew this time - but I'll probably try a little mini-game or mini project for now - like a single level.

Again, thanks guys! Appreciated!

Good advice tbh, same from others above. I wish I did this when creating a clip level for Yuuen, I was getting nice remarks about the story so I thought Id grow the story with a nice little clip and I dont know why, but it did feel like a chore, to the point where I rushed through it just to get it out of the way - it wasnt made with love and the end result shows this :/ Borderline thinking about taking it down, it does the job in telling the story, but it could have been a lot better (at least I had the good sense to make it a separate clip level, so its skippable :s) - I just didnt feel inspired or excited making it like I do with playable content.

I say create what you feel. I enjoyed the beginning of the series. I would like to see the other two levels though... Cliffhangers make me wanna find out what happened after.2011-09-07 22:04:00

My opinion is, if you can get mm picked for making up something as you go along, A level you planned from the start would be absolutly amazing, but then again, When I write scripts, they tend to be better when I just make them up as I write instead of thinking. So it is a difficult desicion.

From looking, it seems that a series like hansel & gretelbot only get 1 mmpick level, because they all should have been, or MTG: A Malevolent tale, just got 1 mm pick for the series, so following that I don't think the series will get another mm pick. Whereas yournew series will get a mm pick, if it is as gd or better than your lost series.

But if you enjoy making the lost series, go for it, I can only suggest, the decision is down to you. Hope this helps
