Crushing and Cave-In Points for a Damageable Car

Archive: 3 posts

Hi guys, I don't know how many of you have seen my post about my insanely awesome project, a fully damageable realistic car like cvturbo (YouTube name is cvturbo). Another great example is "suka-4" (YouTube name is kiwi83300). Check out their videos on their damageable car.

Now I was wondering if I could get help on making the hood and roof deform when something hits it. Both cvturbo and suka-4 have made the hood fly up and bend (suka-4 did a slightly better job) and the roof cave in if the car lands on the roof or something heavy falls on it. Cvturbo calls these "crushing points".

Please watch their videos and drop a reply to possibly help me create these deformable parts. (on suka-4's video I could see some microchips and something that looks like a piston near the pivot points of the deformable parts.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I tried adding anti gravity to the roof, the cave in points worked, just the car floats away...

Both cars seem to work on a basis of segmenting the car in parts and join them with bolts.
The easiest solution to start with, seems that exactly wich means, segment the roof and any deformable part of the car to 3 or more segments and bolt them, fiddling with the strength of the bolts possibly to get the desired effect.

To achieve the braking, a way will be to use either fragile materials, or sensors and destroyers in a way when something deforms a lot a sensor detects it, activates a destroyer and breaks a hidden point (thin layer maybe?) behind the bolts.
At least thats what i will going to try first.

Ok! I'll go try that, I'll add you on PSN and maybe we can work on it together.2011-08-24 20:47:00
