Light VS Dark - The Eternal Matter Battle
Archive: 10 posts
This thread is about the battle about... New VS Old Light VS Darkness Good VS Evil ..... Do you use Dark Matter or Light Matter for your creations? Fun Fact: I didn't even knew Light Matter existed before today, i just saw this white thing besides Dark Matter and i said... "Cool MM added a new Dark Matter... Looks Nice!" I still use Dark Matter, i guess it's just because i'm accustomed to the LBP1 days. Besides it won't "matter" (lol get it?), i only use them to glue stuff, they never show up in my levels. | 2011-08-23 22:30:00 Author: Flame Dragon Posts: 312 |
I've devised an interesting way of storing cut scene related logic in my levels and I've been using light matter. I like the way it looks better with the fact it's corners aren't rounded. | 2011-08-24 00:54:00 Author: abyssalassassin Posts: 717 |
White matter all the way for level design, which then gets converted to other materials. It's not rounded so you can be much more precise. Dark matter is good for popping a very tiny square-circle of junk somewhere behind the scenes to fix something else in place, later to be destroyed. Using light matter for that is also fine, but it catches the eye a lot more often. | 2011-08-24 01:43:00 Author: Unknown User |
Interesting... i just noticed I always use light matter instead of dark! I guess im a good guy lol jk I normally use neither though, Anti gravity always does the trick | 2011-08-24 02:39:00 Author: Rpg Maker Posts: 877 |
Light matter for layout and Gravity tweaks to prop something up | 2011-08-24 06:44:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |
It doesn't matter. | 2011-08-24 11:50:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
I normally use neither though, Anti gravity always does the trick One thing to keep in mind is that the use of gravity tweakers (i.e. something that over-rides the default settings of a specific material) eats up more thermo compared to just using materials such as light/dark matter. You won't notice it unless you have hundreds of them in your level, but a similar amount of light/dark matter shapes uses significantly less thermo. As for the OP, it's an aesthetic preference and nothing more. Those who feel it's "more precise" or whatever simply prefer the square edge of light matter to the softer, rounded corners of dark. There is no real advantage with respect to precision for either material. | 2011-08-24 13:14:00 Author: schm0 Posts: 1239 |
I'm more accustomed to using Dark Matter -though recently I've just been using a gravity tweaker instead. Didn't know about the thermo though, I may go back to using Dark Matter again. Colour me Bad! | 2011-08-24 13:36:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
I use light matter for many applications. I mostly prefer the cleaner look. Dark matter is still useful for 3D cams and such. | 2011-08-25 05:45:00 Author: tanrockstan34 Posts: 1076 |
Dark matter is easily used for invisible walls because of the round edges. Light matter does not nearly as well. I dont really use either often but I'd say dark, just for the invisible walls thing. | 2011-08-25 06:48:00 Author: Dortr Posts: 548 |
