Complexity error message on non-complex level? HELP!

Archive: 11 posts

I'm making an extremely good arcade space shooter with 14 power ups and lots of details. The problem I'm having is the game says the level is "too complex", but the thermometer is barely up. Most of my details come from microchips, like all 14 power ups have there own microchip, with all of those microchips in one microchip. I believe my spacecraft with power ups and stuff ( the thing the player controls ) is the problem. So I tried to move all the microchips off of the screen, but still got the message. I tried putting them on the ship by taking the 14 power up chips out of the one, and got the message again. Then I tried using fewer power ups , and it worked for a while, but i got the message again. I don't understand my problem. My level Cyberspace is far more complex than this one, and the one I'm working on isn't even finished yet ! If more information is required, I'll be happy to reply to any questions on here. Please help me!!!2011-08-22 08:47:00

Complexity warnings tend to appear when you have a too many "complex" (high vertex) objects crammed into in a small area, a lot of "3D" layer objects stacked along the z-axis or when you have used the merge objects glitch. Or maybe your PS3 is just getting too hot after a long session.

Sometimes it seems to happen randomly, but you can usually get rid of it by resetting the game.

It is too late at night for me to do it now, but I shall try readying the game if I have that problem. I don't have a lot of stuff on my level. Like I said my level Cyberspace is FAR more complex than this one. No 3d stuff either. My ps3 might be overheating though, for I play in long intervals. Plus I can tell my ps3 is gonna break down. Thanks for the reply!2011-08-22 09:31:00

Does the message pop up when in preview mode? If not then it's nothing to worry about, it's probably just all the chips and wires lagging up the game, which aren't drawn in preview/play mode at all.2011-08-22 09:32:00

that's weird, in my space shooter there's a lot of things going on at once and I've never had that problem.. I'd like to have a look to see what's the problem, you can add me on psn: Krazy1592011-08-22 09:46:00

One thing that greatly affects how complex the game thinks your level is, is the cameras in your level. If there are any cameras that are zoomed out a long way, they can get a lot of stuff in their field of view and it really reduces how much you can put in there.2011-08-22 09:47:00

I don't think the camera is the problem. Like I said, I moved the heavy logic off the screen and it still gave me the message.2011-08-22 09:57:00

Yeah. I barely got anything in my level when it started screwing up. So I don't have clue what is wrong.

I don't think it matters whether things are on or off screen with regard to cameras and the complexity warning. Cameras can move, so I *think* the game considers whether a camera could potentially see objects based on the camera's zoom level. I've had the same problem in one of my levels myself, and I seem to remember that was the case.

I see your point. The only downside to changing the camera zoom is the fact that I will have to resize all my objects to fix the scale, and many of my objects are emitted. So it would be a pain in the butt.
