Different By Habit

Archive: 20 posts

So I was speaking to a friend the other day and noticed something I hadn't before. Whilst discussing consoles, he said the abbreviation PS as "Pss" (Like ****). I instantly told him it pronouced "P-S". He said he knows! He's been saying Pss for so long, that even if he knows its wrong, it still sounds right to him.

I began to think back and remembered when I pronouce Caligula as Cally-jew-la.

Does anybody else know somebody (or themselves) that, even when aware that its wrong, continues to do or say something different?

I've been widely mocked ever since Year 2 (1st Grade) for not being able to pronounce the "th" sound, if I tried to say three, it would sound like "free" until I tried to make it sound more like "three", after that it would sound like "tree". Lol. 2011-08-21 23:59:00

I pronounce Ayrton Sennas name correctly. Which would be Aye-air-ton, rather than Air-ton. But that's just beacuse I'm not an idiot, nothing to do with a habit. Just the fact that everyone else is wrong.2011-08-22 02:23:00

There has been a study recently in the Utah Valley, where I live. Since we are so secluded form the rest of the world, we have developed our own accent that is different from anywhere else in the world. I don't notice the difference, but people from everywhere else in the world can. The study found that like 80% of us drop the "T" sound when it is the middle or end of words. So in the case of "Matinee" we say "Mah-Uhnay" or "Little Big Planet" "Lih-Uhl Big Planeh" I didn't really notice (Noh-uhs) till I read an article on the study, but it is true... and weird. It is more noticeable with women and girls.2011-08-22 13:05:00

I can't pronounce three either, it really sucks! I don't think i'll ever be able to say it, but it kinda sounds funny when I try to say three IMO

I knew a girl who though the character "Malfoy" from the Harry Potter series was called "Mouth-Boy."
