Question for "Creators" [you, me, that guy]

Archive: 19 posts

[I posted this on the PSN forum but wanted to know what you guys are thinking as well]

I was wondering what aspect of creation intriques you the most...

1.Character "outfit" creation? [still kinda fuzzy on this myself]

2. Making crazy machines?
-cars/vehicles?
-wild catapults?
-something mindblowing?

3. Level design..
-creating crazy puzzle levels?
-designing artistic worlds? [use of color, textures]
-co-op or competitive levels?
-race tracks?
-oldschool game recreation?

4. Creating a compelling story/theme for a level?

5. Creating Music levels or custom music? [mentioned in a few interviews. You can take the music already in the game and change each song dramatically. Not a hundred percent sure of how this works but there is proof of a music level]

There are so many possibilities with a game like this [i know its not out yet] that it might take several people with different ideas and specialties to make something truly memorable. It's just a suggestion, but focus on the things that interest you the most, maybe character creation, and team up with a great level layout artist and have another guy/gal come in and tweak the map for that all imporant eye-friendly look. I think teams of creative friends will rule supreme.

So when you first heard about this game and the possibilities, and the creation bug bit you, what was the first thing that popped into your head and what do you want to do with the creation tools first?

Rube Goldberg machine. That, and a bunch of other machines. I'd basically build working machines like catapults, number-coded doors, ect.2008-08-13 03:26:00

Same

I'd make a level or two to award my machines in, but I'll mainly be making bizarre contraptions

Complex machines (levers, switches, cogs, ect.) is where I'm at!

I also will try to make artistic level designs to complement these machines. I cannot draw in real life, but I think I will be able to make a lot with the tools.

Thinkiing about it, I'll make about the same amount of levels as Machines.. Cause I'll end up doing both at the same time... I'll start building a level, then I'll think of a challenge for that level, then I'll go make a machine to make it possible.2008-08-13 03:36:00

I want to use LBP to create some wild minigames and competitive levels [going for the high score and racing] that force you to work together at the same time. If you can't get from point A to poing B without your buddy throwing a switch, you can't beat him. Your buddy can't win if you don't lower that platform across the gap. Neither player gets very far without the other but if you want the prize [awesome contraption another buddy designed] you have to beat him to the end.

I also like the idea of a giant gumball, or in this case a sponge, machine. Two guys pull on a lever and a bunch of sponge falls out. The lever won't open unless two players are hanging on it. Then they run and collect as much as they can before the other guy, then repeat.

I'm really looking forward to making machines that emulate some of my favorite things from classic platformers such as Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm not talking about remaking entire levels, just working really hard on making something cool from them. Like the platforms in Mario that move up and down.2008-08-13 04:07:00

Machines, puzzle levels, action levels and story driven levels for me.

The first machine I want to build is a trebuchet later to be used in my Lord of the Rings themed level.

Puzzle levels could be anything I just want to see how creative I can be in an original way, copying as little as possible. I'm very interested in attempting to create an RPG, which would be both story and puzzle driven.

Action levels will be pretty fast paced, with lots of explosions and fast, exciting events like flying through the air after being thrown by a trebuchet. LOTR level will be one of these.

Story driven levels generally based on original stories created by myself. They will have some puzzle components and maybe a boss at the end... only thing is the character dies in many of my stories and I dunno how to pull it off in LBP form. Would I have to make the level unfinishable?

I'm definatly most interested in making mini-games!

I will be focusing mainly on them because if you make a good one it has tonnes of replayability! I'd also fool around with character creation a little to try and make something very unique to sit on my head... but I'm also fuzzy on that one.

Thanks for asking

Going on the LOTR themed level posted earlier, I might use the Catapult to fire the sackboy into a house, then he has to steal something Sackboy - Master Theif.2008-08-13 14:31:00

I want to make levels, using new mechanics and have planned on a few stories I want to create already. One ideas seems like I do but the other one I am not sure if I can or not. Me and my friend are working together on making these levels. I am hoping I can use this as experience to get into the game industry and also when I set up my internship that I will have both of these to help me.2008-08-14 17:56:00
