Stung by a scorpion
Archive: 51 posts
So this morning I grabbed a shirt and put it on and felt a sting on my left side. I lift the shirt tail and see a freakin' scorpion clinging to my shirt. I'm trying to quickly get my shirt off when it goes higher and stings me two more times. I get the shirt off and get rid of the scorpion. I'm allergic to bee stings, but not so bad that I have to take a shot unless I'm stung 4 - 5 times. Anyway, my arm stars swelling and my lips and tongue are going numb, but I'm not having any serious issues. I get my kids to school and decide I'm not going to make to work. I took some Benadryl, which knocked me out for about 5 hours, and am still feeling the effects of the scorpion. Tongue still feels weird, kinda like if you drink something too hot and it burns your tongue. Anyone else have allergic reactions to bites or stings? Do you have to take the shot? My mom is deathly allergic and has about 3 minutes to take the shot. She has to carry the kit around with her everywhere. | 2011-08-20 05:22:00 Author: biorogue Posts: 8424 |
Aren't the smaller scorpions poisoness? You may want to get it checked out... | 2011-08-20 05:25:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
OMG! I'm so sorry to hear that I've never been bit by something like this, besides a bee/wasps. I'm not really allergic. Sorry about that, I'm really glad you're okay | 2011-08-20 05:26:00 Author: Unknown User |
I think you should go to the doc just for sure, I don't know of any scorpions whose sting isn't deadly. | 2011-08-20 11:16:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |
The thing with scorpions, the bigger the better. Small one bites you, don't keep it to yourself. | 2011-08-20 11:16:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
Small scorpions in the U.S. are almost always going to be a species of bark scorpion, which can be considered dangerous, more so to small children etc. Because it stung you several times, you may want to ask a doctor about it. you did the right thing by taking benadryl tho. I have been stung by a couple scorpions before too. | 2011-08-20 11:41:00 Author: Bluephantom575 Posts: 142 |
It must've felt... quite appaling! How did it get in your house?! I've actually never seen one for real so I couldn't say what is the best thing to do in such a situation, but there's no harm in getting it examined. I got bit by a snake once but I don't think it's the same thing. | 2011-08-20 12:03:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |
It really depends on the scorpion. I live in Utah, and we have scorpions and tarantulas just running around like they are the boss of the place. The little creamy white ones are nasty little things, the black ones don't seem to be as bad ***. Should get it checked out tho, before it starts to rot. On a side note, when I was a little boy, my grandma and I would run around her back yard (about 4 acres of Blue Bell, Utah) and catch scorpions and tarantulas and snakes and all sorts of deadly critters. Really makes you think how many times you probably almost died as a child (If you think YOU live in BFE, check out Blue Bell on Googe Images) | 2011-08-20 12:33:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
Sorry to hear that But you may want to get checked out tho. | 2011-08-20 15:00:00 Author: zzmorg82 Posts: 948 |
Also, could you describe what it looks like? The color, shape, size? I know a bit about animals and insects, stuff like that. So, if you got a good look, it'd be helpful But as everyone else said, you need to get it checked out, better safe than sorry, right? | 2011-08-20 15:05:00 Author: Unknown User |
The interesting thing about scorpions is that some biologists believe that prehistoric relatives of the modern scorpion were one of the first animals to make the transition from water to land. Thank you fact of the day toilet paper! | 2011-08-20 15:35:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
I agree with all of the above. Personally I would get a check from the doctor (my mom) for any kind of sting cuz I'm a safety freak So I'd go to the doc before somethin bad happens. | 2011-08-20 15:41:00 Author: Fang Posts: 578 |
Id go to a doctor just in case. Im sorry to hear about your misfortune. Im lucky because scorpions dont live in Scotland. | 2011-08-20 15:55:00 Author: craigmond Posts: 2426 |

Actually, if you go down to certain docks, particularly in Aberdeen (or practically any other "shipping town") at night with a UV light - you can find mini-scorpions living on some walls. They've been here for decades - brought on boats by the international fruit trade | 2011-08-20 16:00:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |

You should've dropped some alcohol on it and made the scorpion sting itself to death, that would teach it a lesson. Also, is your mom allergic to bee or scorpion stings? | 2011-08-20 16:12:00 Author: booXely Posts: 654 |
You should've dropped some alcohol on it and made the scorpion sting itself to death, that would teach it a lesson. Also, is your mom allergic to bee or scorpion stings? Way to put the cruelty in animal cruelty. :L | 2011-08-20 16:15:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |
You should've dropped some alcohol on it and made the scorpion sting itself to death, that would teach it a lesson. The scorpion isn't at fault. It just saw that it's new polyester-blend home was being invaded by a giant! What would you have done? Do you deserve to die every time you fight back? | 2011-08-20 16:22:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
But to be fair - if I picked a fight with an animal 100 times my size, I wouldn't be surprised when it squished me "like a bug" | 2011-08-20 16:24:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
But to be fair - if I picked a fight with an animal 100 times my size, I wouldn't be surprised when it squished me "like a bug" True. I'm not going to preach my animal love here. But that scorpion deserves a tiny medal for being so brave and junk. lol | 2011-08-20 16:26:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
But to be fair - if I picked a fight with an animal 100 times my size, I wouldn't be surprised when it squished me "like a bug" True, but there's a big difference between that and this: You should've dropped some alcohol on it and made the scorpion sting itself to death, that would teach it a lesson. That's just overkill. | 2011-08-20 16:29:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |
I have a feeling this thread is about to get off topic... | 2011-08-20 16:38:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
That's just overkill. I don't see how it's "overkill", squishing a scorpion is just as bad. | 2011-08-20 19:18:00 Author: booXely Posts: 654 |
You should've dropped some alcohol on it and made the scorpion sting itself to death, that would teach it a lesson. Thats a waste of good alcohol. | 2011-08-20 19:25:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
How did it get in your house?! I've actually never seen one for real so I couldn't say what is the best thing to do in such a situation, but there's no harm in getting it examined. I got bit by a snake once but I don't think it's the same thing. I live in back woods Texas, they're everywhere. I spray around the house about every 3 months but still get a few now and then. I've been bitten by snakes as well, mostly due to messing with them. Some creatures just don't like to be picked up. The one that got me looks like this: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cVsHUp2cFFA/TlASH29bZ3I/AAAAAAAAAtU/4yGdTb_rnMQ/Scorpion.jpg (If you think YOU live in BFE, check out Blue Bell on Googe Images) LOL, Blue bell down here equates to ice cream https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rLYPvflgOGA/TlATJOa6z_I/AAAAAAAAAtY/eIY9GxPwc1g/Blue_Bell_Ice_Cream.gif The interesting thing about scorpions is that some biologists believe that prehistoric relatives of the modern scorpion were one of the first animals to make the transition from water to land. Thank you fact of the day toilet paper! I like that! I don't have the fact of the day toilet paper, but I have about 10 volumes of the Bathroom Reader. Also, is your mom allergic to bee or scorpion stings? My mom is deathly allergic to all stings. Ants, wasp, bees, scorpions. She got bit by a fire ant one time and didn't have her kit with her. Luckily we were about 4 blocks from the hospital and when we got her there, she couldn't speak and could barely breath. Just barely made it. And I'm fine, didn't have to go to the doctor or anything. Lips and tongue are no longer numb. Just a little red around the sing marks. Thanks everybody for thoughts and advice. | 2011-08-20 21:15:00 Author: biorogue Posts: 8424 |
THose are exactly the kind down in Blue Bell. I played with them a lot as a kid... So either you are fine, or I had an irresponsible grandma... Probably both | 2011-08-20 21:39:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
Did you grill the Scorpion? Delicious. Anyway, better get the stings checked out. | 2011-08-20 22:43:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |
Glad to hear your fine. It could have been really bad. | 2011-08-21 11:55:00 Author: craigmond Posts: 2426 |
The interesting thing about scorpions is that some biologists believe that prehistoric relatives of the modern scorpion were one of the first animals to make the transition from water to land. Thank you fact of the day toilet paper! Indeed they are, although they didn't breathe the air, they breathed the Co2 and assisted the development of plant life. Way to put the cruelty in animal cruelty. :L Wimp. Animal cruelty is whipping an elephant, not fighting back against an animal trying to hurt you, it's the law of the jungle. I don't see how it's "overkill", squishing a scorpion is just as bad. Indeed it is. | 2011-08-21 20:05:00 Author: Tecnoguy1 Posts: 206 |

Good job, not only is that captioned picture not accompanied by an actual reply (therefore making it spam already), but if you took half a second to look at it you would have noticed that is a craw-dad/cray-fish and not at all a scorpion. I think people are confusing LBPC with a meme sharing site more and more by the day. I have never seen a wild scorpion before, tons of slimy black emperor scorpions in tanks at the pet store before though . Here we have widows and rattle snakes to look out for, none of which have nibbled me yet . We have a lot of bees too, I must have been stung and bitten 20 times as a kid during my campaign to trap burrowing yellow jackets under a sand sifter in the sand box or fending them off from my precious Lunchable meal. At the time, if a yellow jacket landed on your bare thigh, it was only natural instinct to put your hand down on it to stop it from biting you XD turned out to be counter productive. | 2011-08-22 00:06:00 Author: Littlebigdude805 Posts: 1924 |
I have a huge fear of bees/wasps, so if I saw a scorpion, I would probably faint... And good to see you're fine now. Edit: Littlebigdude805, I just looked up yellow jacket on Google images. I wished I hadn't. And I wanted to live in Cali when I'm older... now I come to think of it, England's brilliant. | 2011-08-22 00:12:00 Author: abyssalassassin Posts: 717 |
Erm... yes, I know it wasn't a scorpion, it was fro the lolz. You should lighten up a little, it was a joke. That has probably been my only post like that for months. :/ Happy, there is my reply. This will probably end up as a flame war. If only you didn't say anything... Anywho... no scorpions (that I know of in New England). Couldn't imagine what it's like being stung, I've only been stung by a bee once. | 2011-08-22 00:43:00 Author: tanrockstan34 Posts: 1076 |
yeah, yellow jackets are a nasty bunch. I've seen nest get several feet in diameter and heard they can be much larger. They're aggressive too. Check out this yellow jacket nest in the back of an abandoned car. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-6x5J3jWhA3A/TlGqTe1P1RI/AAAAAAAAAtk/7BNZC9UzC1c/bilde.jpg what's also nasty is the Japanese Hornet. I had a buddy get stung right on the forehead and his head swelled up like a basketball. It probably would have killed me. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vUOlbk24xU4/TlGrX59avYI/AAAAAAAAAtw/axol0iTLNMs/221692-japanese_giant_hornet.jpg | 2011-08-22 02:07:00 Author: biorogue Posts: 8424 |

And that nest is awesome. | 2011-08-22 03:12:00 Author: abyssalassassin Posts: 717 |
Oh no!! I've never been stung by a scorpion before! I would've panicked if I started feeling numbness. Funny story though I got stung by a bee in the grass once when my friend tackled me down when I found her.....ummm...iPad...yeah. It was REALLY itchy afterwards. I just hope that everything goes right and that nothing bad happens!! Some advice. Don't die | 2011-08-22 06:26:00 Author: Amigps Posts: 564 |
I've only been stung by a bee once. Same! well... I saw a bee on the bottom of my foot so I got scared and stomped down causing it's stinger to go directly into my foot... But for scorpions, I don't know if there's any in Canada, but I saw something that looked exactly like a scorpion, but it was only like an inch big. I want to know what it was... | 2011-08-22 15:22:00 Author: TheMonkeyBlade Posts: 687 |
I would definitely get that checked out. That doesn't sound good. Better safe than sorry.... | 2011-08-22 15:59:00 Author: Godzilla Posts: 224 |

How do you know? It could be a scorpion dressed up as a lobster. Fool,. you can clearly see its a lobster dressed up as a scorpion that is dressed as a lobster. Lobsception.... @OP How big and what shade was the scorpion? Remember that the bigger and darker shade they are and the more harmless their poison is. Bigger ones can defend themselves with their pincers, its the small light ones that need and have the powerful poison for self defense, and the ones you should be truly careful with. | 2011-08-22 22:45:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |

It is a crawfish / crawdad depending on what part of the country you live. They're quite tasty @silverleon This sucker right here got me. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cVsHUp2cFFA/TlASH29bZ3I/AAAAAAAAAtU/4yGdTb_rnMQ/Scorpion.jpg | 2011-08-23 00:25:00 Author: biorogue Posts: 8424 |
Uhhh, remind me never to move to Texas! Zoinks! http://www.quizlaw.com/blog/images/shaggy.jpg I'll take my nice, cold Michigan with it's lack of forest fires, mudslides, earthquakes, hurricanes, and poisonous animals. I think there's two poisonous snakes and two breeds of poisonous spider in the state, and that's about it. I would gladly visit the Lone Star state, but I'd scream like a 10 year old girl if I saw one of those things with it's tail all going stabby-stabby like! | 2011-08-23 00:58:00 Author: schm0 Posts: 1239 |
I always wanted to visit Michigan. I could certainly go for a dose of cool weather right now. Hotter than a half chewed jalapeno down here. Least it only got up to 105 today. | 2011-08-23 02:47:00 Author: biorogue Posts: 8424 |
