Try out this 1-4 player Asteroids survival level. Select your ship, then rack up points for as long as you can. Please let me know if you find any bugs.

Hey Bannayen I just played your level not too long ago. Played it a few times but couldn't get used to the rotation on the controls. Probably just me as my friend was fine on it.
It's actually very addictive gameplay. Well presented with a nice theme and use of futurist space materials.

BUT I did find a glitch that kept throwing my friend out of the level and dying every time we entered the level, forcing me to restart quite a few times. When we entered it looks as if the momentum from entering threw him up and out of the level as the entrance circle is quite high. It may be best to lower the entrance so when a player is flicked up upon entering they are not killed or thrown out of the level. At one time my friend died before even entering. But we tried again and we really enjoyed it.

If you could fix that glitch, that woudl be great, as we'll definitely be back for more.

The reason that entrance is high is because of the controllinator that operates the menu. When it was lower, once the first player selected Play, and ejected, the next closest person would then enter. I put it up higher so I didn't have to have as high a radius for that controllinator...the first player would enter, and the others would drop down and be out of range. My wife and I played it a number of times, and never had a problem with it, but I'll do some more testing and see if I can come up with a fix.

Were you and your friend playing together on the same unit, or online?

Hi did you manage to test it online or locally? I ask as testing locally would have been on the same internet connection so may not have brought anything up. Best to test locally and even more so online with others. Me and Ostler were playing it online not together locally.

However, your level is way addictive and I'm coming back to play more

Really neat level. I can tell you remember the original atari game from way back when. It seemed solid enough. Everything worked and i enjoyed it.

I would have liked for the guns to fire a little faster though. I think that would have added to the intensity a little bit even if it did make the scores a little higher.

The controls took a little figuring out and getting used to. It could definitely do with a few prompts. I think most people who play space shooters like that nowadays are used to using the right stick to aim and fire. I think it may be more intuitive if you could switch the X button and the R1 so that x is fire and R1 is booster. Ideally I think it would work really well to just make it so pressing the left or right stick in a given direction initiates firing as well as rotating, and L1 controls boost. That's just my preference though.

The only other issue I had was that I miss being able to exit the frame to the left and reenter on the right. I have no idea if that could be accomplished though. I think you did well dealing with that issue.

You did a great job on the asteroids themselves, and having them split to smaller parts.

All in all, it was a fun level. It reminded me of being a kid and playing asteroids for hours on end, so kudos to you sir.

Regarding the controls, my intent was to stay true to the controls of the original asteroids game. Your stick rotates the ship, and a button gives you thrust. I imagine some of those playing on the PS3 may have never actually played the original. I, being 36 years old, do remember it. What I could try is offer the option; twin stick shooting for some, classic controls for others, and give the player the option to decide.

Did a little research. The original arcade game played like this: you had 2 buttons that rotated you either direction, a button for thrust, a fire button, and 1 that teleported you to a random location on the screen. On the atari 2600, left or right on the stick rotated you, up on the stick provided thrust, and down on the stick performed various functions, depending on the game mode selected.

I thought the level was great fun just playing it by myself but I bet its even better with more players. I really enjoyed it but managed to come up with 2 improvements.
1) The controls were a bit hard to get the hang of so could you make it easier.
2) Could you make the level a versus level to make it more fun if your with a friend so that you can compete against each other to see who gets the highest score?

I tried this level and thought that it was pretty neat!
I loved how it stayed true to the original with classic asteroid blasting action and smooth controls (In my opinion)
I though it could use a little more polish with the movement, however that was not much of a problem compared to all the pros.
Overall a great level with classic action that will satisfy most shoot-em-up fans like me!

@SkaterOllie795: It already is a versus level.

Thank you everyone for the input. I've begun work on a new version; some of the features I'm working on include the ability to chose between classic controls and twin stick, increased fire rate, music select and more.

Played this a couple of times today in single and multiplayer modes. Really is most enjoyable in the multi-player version where youcan act as a team to get a higher score. Instantly recognisable as an asteroids based level the controls were responsive, gentle taps of the x button providing thrust as in the original. Maybe you could add a versus mode wherein the players could balst each other causing damage as another gameplay option. Overall a fun level.

Ok, here's what I have added so far (not published yet):
I created a ship using twin stick controls. At the ship selection screen, not only can a player choose color, but they can decide between the 2 ships.
I increased the rate of fire for the standard gun
I added health restore powerups and weapon powerups

Any other suggestions? I'm still working on it, but feedback is always appreciated.
