Gosh TCR don't be such a prude (minor bad language)

Archive: 28 posts

I've seen the word "crap" used in levels recently without moderation. Two of them were MM picked (that cola factory thing and Roller Factory 2*), so I doubt it was a mistake I don't think I misread. I'm not complain as such but I was surprised due to the games rating. Anyone know why?

*Sorry no links lbp.me won't let me log on. But you'll be able to find them easy enough, they're fairly recent.

by what i learned crap isnt a curse word, and is considered slang nowadays.
Adults tend to make it out as a curse(well,a few)word.my teacher is fine with me saying crap as long i dont abuse the word(and familly is fine with me saying this too.)
do you find the word offensive though?

Because they've taken enough stupid words away from us with their language filter FAIL by not making the filter regional and having parts of words embedded in other words get censored. I guess they had to leave us one non swear word, right?

I don't give a crap, I own a lot of crap, I just took a crap. It can be used many ways right? I think we've had enough of our words stolen from us... like cockpit or analogue. Ridiculous words being censored for no good reason other than epic FAIL.

They can't get rid of crap! It's the only swear I can have!

I don't see it really as a swear, probably due to overuse.

Protip: in LBP you can use accentuated letters to evade the censor (Hold Alt Gr key). Eg: Happ?ned, comp?ter..2011-08-18 18:52:00

In America, crap is an extremely-extreme-not-even-close-to swear word. But of course, thats America. Nowadays, we have a different word for deification.2011-08-19 01:42:00

Someone pointed out to me the other day that "whore" is not censored.

So a 7-year-old girl can be told to "eat crap whore!" by anyone but if she comes to you shaken and in tears, you are unable to ask her what happened because it will read as "what ********?"

A few obscene and/or controversial words NOT censored by LBPs filter. Crap, d.amn, as.s, d.ick, and whore. Sorry for saying them here but you can in LBP.

I believe people have said d.amn in levels and were fine. Thi766's Aurora Somanis RPG has a guy getting drunk off whiskey which i was surprised about but laughed. I would just assume that drugs and alcohol would be modded more. Especially more than crap... Comph has that evil boss guy saying "Oh Sh--" XD Ya know the Mm picked Wizard level. Is he supposed to be saying "shoot"-_-

Mm have put strange things in levels too.. to me. Like the pole dancing meercats...

That always caught me off guard, no matter how many times I played the level. Odd for an E rated game.

Personally, I'd almost prefer something where you need to be a certain age to access some stuff. It's user generated content, and creativity shouldn't be limited to happy shining people holding hands. If I could raise the rating of my level to T or even M, I could make it significantly better (well, IMO it's already T, shhhh)

Word censor should be an option for the player (yes, I know it's the PS3, not LBP that does it, but still... :/)

I'd love something like this too.

If they want to truly "protect" players from each other's vulgarities and so forth, the game simply can't be online, can't have voice chat, can't allow stickers, can't allow photos, can't allow text... because any ability to input something is an ability to communicate something offensive, often without trying very hard.

Currently, every time we go online those terms of agreement that nobody reads specifically exclude Sony or any game maker from responsibility for any offense we users experience due to "the online experience", since it can't truly be policed, except in a reactionary or fear-driven preventative sense ("I dare not create a d*ck monster level, because it will get my account banned and I don't want that, not because it's tasteless and inappropriate for most of the community" sort of thing, for example).

Not sure of the point I'm trying to make... heh heh...

In the end it is all up to Sony's discretion. Someone reports something random, Sony checks it out and another one bites the ban. My own experience and sadly that of many others.

It's a.... (sunglasses) ...crap-shoot.

Crap is as bad as fart. As in not bad at all. They shouldn't be used in a formal setting, but on any other occasion they're fine.2011-08-19 12:34:00

Related to this subject, on this site I typed the word (I'll spell it phonetically) "Dee Ay Em En" and it was censored, so it came out as "**** you!"

Obviously this makes it look like I was being aggressive, when I was actually being light hearted.

Why on earth was that word censored??

**** Hell *** ******* Whore ;

All words contained in The Bible. Which is apparently rated U for Everyone;
Even if it is a sick, twisted tale of incest, slavery and genocide

Cole Porter

Offence is subjective and entirely in the eye of the person taking offense.
No one has the right *not* to be offended, because what is offensive to some - might be harmless to others.

I say, remove censorship altogether - and have it determined by Parental Controls.

What about the guys whose name is D.ick? It has to be a punch in the stomach not being able to write our own names

Also, is "whore" allowed both here and in LBP? Whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore, whore WHORE!

"crap".. i've been saying that since 3rd grade, But what bothers me is that they don't moderate words such as d.anm etc, but they moderate stuff for being too "scary". they might as well make the game E+10. But whatever, i try not to say anything vulgar in my levels anyway, it's a kids game..we should save all that for CoD..2011-08-19 23:39:00

Huh so is "****" on its own censored? Also the meercats kinda freaked me out.

But these would've been or at least Mm would've seen them as they were picked.

Huh I guess it's different in the UK. Ah well, I don't mind obscenity too much.

EDIT:

"Hell* is just blasphemy; not offensive to anyone. And is whore not censored? Huh.

Point is - they're "clean" enough to be in the Bible - but not in LBP

A recent poll found that "38% of people thought that the word "Pimhole", while not knowing what it means, should only be broadcast after the watershed and 23% thought it should be totally banned on the television."

Pimhole is an area of Bury, just off the M66 in England

I think that's a good enough reason not to broadcast it

Context is everything.

I bet some nice lady in that town has a personalized recipe for some dessert or another. Fellow traveler says, "Lady I would love a taste of your pimhole pie." Town meeting to clean up local waste? A councilmember leads a chant like, "Keep Our Pimhole Clean!" Heh heh.

Meh... People react differently to the whole censor situation. At least LBP doesn't try to censor me giving out my phone number.

If you really wanted to you can use Unicode to bypass the filter.
