Space Station A.I (BETA)

Archive: 15 posts

I've had to re-post this thread because the link for the old one just disappeared! and it wouldn't let me put it back on!! anyway...

As the level discription says this level is still in development and i published this as a beta to gain some interest on the project and some feedback.

alot of things influenced me to making this...a few movies that influenced me are eagle eye...terminator...alien...blade runner. i won't ruin the story but it should be pretty obvious if you look at the title and the influences lol...put two and two together! haha. anyway...i enjoyed making this level and i still am. got some big action sequences planned for the level lying ahead. would love to hear from you all about what you think.

i have to give thanx to fighterwindplus for helping me with ideas, some logic and just general help and checking in on me from time to time. and also jumpman420p...for designing the machines that you will see later on!

PREVIOUS REVIEWS:

BY CORCHITO
" Absolutely fantastic level! I particularly loved the lighting and the camerawork during the cutscenes. The minimalist music added to the tension and there were brilliant moments of humour to liven things up a bit. Honestly I don't think there was anything I didn't like! Of course it was too short, but that was the idea wasn't it? Always leave them wanting more.

I genuinely felt privileged to be the first person to play it! "

BY ARBIEKKO
" Played it just now and left you a review, but dang... 300 characters isn't enough space to really express my love for this type of level.

" First of all, it's a space thriller. Invokes the spirit of dread and fascination that I have loved about films good and bad in the genre, and the ominous sense of things going very, very wrong is just perfect. I love you used the "Tension" soundtrack which I discovered recently. Kill those brass stabs and drums and it's one of the best bits of atmospheric music! Great choice! And I love the use of the vents -- something else I discovered recently. This may all sound like me praising you for things I simply like in my own levels, but it's not that. It took me FIVE MONTHS to realize how to create the slightest bit of atmosphere, and here you seem to do it effortlessly. Your visual aesthetic is just superb. It's just... superb. I'm very jealous. "

for more reviews please check the in game comments. so far all postive reviews with no dislikes. so a good start lol

here are some pictures to help sway you to playing lol...

aw Wolfy, don't be that way. The Link shows and works for me.
I had the pleasure of playing this last night and to say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. From start to finish it was just amazing. The details throughout the ship are astounding. The lighting helps create a superb sci-fi environment that keeps you tense, even though nothing is happening, you just get that feeling that behind the next door I'm getting attacked. You really have a gift at creating very detailed, atmospheric environments. I loved the frozen room. That was genius and looked amazing. Awesome level throughout and I cannot wait to see more.

I do have a negative though. It's just a teensy weensy one.
It took me a good 10 minutes to figure out what to do with the air vent. I would go in it to a dead end, run back to elevator, all doors locked. it took me a while to find out I could jump in the box, which triggered the grappling hook to appear. And I did that by accident. Maybe something different? I dunno.

Tried out the level and the visuals were fantastic.

Details from every crook and corner made the spaceship feel like a spaceship. The atmosphere was well done, with all those well placed flickering lights. The vending machine that spews out sodas was a nice touch. It showed that this level was really given much work and effort. And it paid off great.

A minor suggestion though, just as biorogue pointed out, would you mind making the switch in the freezer room more noticeable? Or maybe you could not make the materials there grabbable, as the grappling hook kept grabbing the whole area instead of the switch. I actually had to drop the grappling hook, and just grab the switch myself.

Overall, the level gave off an atmospheric experience that is rare to find in LBP levels. Wonderful job.

if you got the time, would you mind checking out my level and leaving feedback on it? It's called Trial of the Goddess and it's a story-based platformer. It's a LBP1 level though so don't expect much from it.
Here it is:

Thanks for your time.

thanx for your play and review :-) i know the vent area isn't TOO clear but its subtle and purposefully created that way. ill try add a sound effect near the box. that way when you approach it you know it means something...hows that? lol

thanx man. i totally agree about the iced out area. when i was testing it out with a friend i also didn't like that everything could be grabbed except the ceiling which made it a little easier to navigate the room due to the slippery surface. so i remember changing that but i must of forgot to save or something. ill fix that as soon as i can.

i have your level queued and i will leave a review later today.

And I did that by accident. Maybe something different? I dunno.

What an amazing opening scene. My eyes were wide with anticipation. The atmosphere and story you created was truely eerie and intriguing. Your attention to details and use of lighting made it seem even more relaistic as I continued. I truely felt isolated as the ship docked.

I also have to agree with the section in the spoiler alert above. There was no visual cue, and seemed a bit out of place when I found it. I actually ended up going back down thinking I'd missed something only to realsie that I couldn't get back up, so had to quit out and start again.

I also like to explore a bit and look for hidden bubbles, if there are any. This actually meant I got stuck in your 2nd picture behind the metal pipes where the window is. I just couldn't jump high enough to get out, or when I thought I was high enough and pushed forward to come out, it just threw me back. I'm sure other sackpeople like to explore too and may have the same problem. So I had to quit and start again. Actually checked your comments and someone else got stuck there too. So you may want to block that area off somehow, or lower something allowing people to get out again.

I particulary like the space suits area. That is a very clever use of sackbots. Your choice of materials, lightning and use of sound enhanced the gameplay experience, even though it was short. I also liked the way you used the hologram material for the screen animations and the door panels that opened, right down to the vending machines. All very well put together. I'll be on the look out for the full level.

Don't forget to do my F4F that you posted on: Caverns if the Lost (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=62046-Caverns-of-the-Lost) when you can. Thanks.

So, you're saying Dead Space didn't influence this AT ALL? Because that was what I felt while playing, I thought monsters would eat me the second I went in the vent T.T
It was great :3 I liked it, you better not disappoint me. You better make more, and add some nifty gore. (Rhymes). Anywho ~

Normally I don't ask for feedback, but since I haven't gotten many plays at all:

Please <3

(Though mine isn't a functional level, just some tests and what not)

thanx for your play and review man. i havnt checked the thread in a while because i been busy working. but i have been working on the actual level in my spare time and i would say it is about 70% complete. i have fixed some minor bugs in the beta version but for the most part it has remained untouched as most my time has been spent creating the next installments. which won't be published seperately as part 1 or 2 for example. instead it will all be linked together so you have a continuous experience.

the finished product will feature a custom soundtrack. some original music and some remakes of music from deus ex:human revolution.
a rich story based in the sci-fi genre and an detailed environment specifically designed to be dark and atmospheric to give you the eerie sense of " something don't feel right "
