Dimentia (LBPC6?)

Most of my projects are merely ideas that I end up working together a tech demo for, and this one seems like one that really grabs my interest.

The level's gameplay style will be based off of the game Crush (Sega, PSP), while the story was written by Clayton (Claydohwizard) and Julianotis1 (Juliankay1).
A video link to gameplay of Crush can be seen here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udEywtrjBkw

Basically, the game will focus on the transition of a world between the second and third dimension. It is a platformer that can only be completed by triggering that transition.

I HIGHLY recommend that you do not extend the dropbox below if you want the full effect of the level when its complete. It will, as the term is used, spoil it for you.

EDIT: The plot has now been restricted to those who aren't part of the group for this project

JOB OPENINGS!

I want this done in time for the LBPC6 contest. I could use designers, logic help, cutscene creators, costume designers, idea-men (lets call them that ), troubleshooters, sackbot logic specialists, and voice actors. Honestly any job thinkable. Please shoot me a message either on PSN or LBPC if your interested. I am keeping track of all helpers in the slightest and adding them to a credits level. I would like to have it done before Jan. 15

How about "Dimension Shift", you could make a futuristic theme to it, something like avalonia.2011-08-19 08:37:00

Yeah, definitely, finished the logic yesterday and really has a futuristic feel to the transition. The two themes I'm leaning toward is a dark, rustic city, or a futuristic theme.

Also, looking for 3D help still, so if anyone has experience, your help is welcome.

Visuals:
I'd have R2 as the toggle to shift dimensions by having the R2 on the controlinator hooked up to the cycle of a two way selector, and have one of the selectors output hooked to toggle to the depth camera, and have it so if you press R2, it toggles the second selector output which will switch to the flat camera, making the whole creation a flat landscape, and have the platforms that used to be way in the distance (Using the 3D tool) appear to be in the same landscape as the platforms in the playable layers (since its 2D the whole scene will be one layer, like Mario).

Gameplay:
The second selector output (2D) would be hooked up to an emitter, which emits invisible platforms which can actually be walked on, unlike the 3D layers, but when the invisible ground is lined up with the 3D layers (viewed in 2D), it look as if the player was walking on a 2D version of the 3D layers.

Its kind of confusing to write, but understandable when playing. It will be sort of a puzzle game.

I also plan on adding traps, for example, theres a torch back in the distance lined up with curtains in the foreground, if you where to go 2D while passing the two, the games layers would flatten, sort of squeezing the torch and curtains against one another in the single "2D" layer. This would cause the curtains to ignite and cause the room to collapse, resulting in game.

I will be working on it tonight.

Officially got the transition working great! Add and drop by if you like to check it out.
Basically, if your currently in 3D, and you hit R2, your sackboy will jump up in the air, accompanied by some sweet sounds, and stomp down on the ground, creating a pounds sound, which begins a short transition in which it transfers to 2D.

Also, work on this level has officially begun. All main sackbot logic is complete, scenery is being started.

I'd love 3D scenery help by the way!

Came up with a new name: Dimentia. Its a play on words between "dementia" and "dimension."

I thought that the protagonist may be playing in some sort of dream world, which played like 20% into the "dementia" aspect, 80% because it makes the title sound awesome.

Update: Also made a logo! Seen in the initial post

I had a more twisted one, with red eyes in the background and whatnot.

I have a plot idea:

The protagonist is in a dream, a very beautiful, bright, vivid colours, which amazes the main character. The player must go through the platformer if he wants to wake up (the doctors label his case a sleeping sickness). Then as the player progresses through the game, the environment slowly changes into a darker theme, and the player realizes that if he does not succeed in completing the dream, he will never wake up. After learning this the game transfers into a full blown nightmare (I will try to make it as sketchy as possible). This is where things get dangerous.

When a player dies, it will show a short death clip followed by a "Game Over" screen. The player is then presented with the option to retry from last checkpoint, or quit.

Anyways, I will work on this as much as possible.

Any helpers are welcome Also, message me if you'd like to take the system for a spin, I have made a locked level featuring the system (really just has a couple items in it, but will be updated daily) and if you would like to sign up as a tester, let me know.

To testers: Just check the updated date on the level, if it has changed, test it out. Leave a review on any bug. I will delete the review once It has been fixed.

Worked out a plot for the level, check the drop menu at the initial page.

Do NOT drop the menu if you want the full effect of the level when you play it. It really gives a lot away.

I am having trouble making a few things, I'd love a designer for help. A car is a crucial part of the opening scene, but I cant seem to make one. I also need a forest made, Ive been trying all sorts of style, but I also need trees in the background and foreground extra layers, and I cant really do that, I have very limited design capabilities

Anyways, shoot me a message on PSN if your willing to help, you will be credited in the description (or the credits section of the main menu, depending on how many helpers I get).

Ohh, this sounds cool.

I can offer a little bit of help if you want, although I have no experience in 3D (never found a proper cascade for it so never really tried it), I have a bit of experience/ideas when it comes to beautiful/creepy levels. I did have a few concept designs similar to this that only failed due to my incapability with logic (well, I can work things out I just don't enjoy the process). One where the player would repeatedly be sent into a dream world at random points in the level and they had to complete a simple objective to return and one where the player controlled time (slow-mo basically) and whenever he did it would show messages in blood on the wall and the level would slowly fall apart.

Oh... and I've been told I can to visuals pretty well. You're going to have to check my levels to see if that statement's true though.

Is it possible for me to play the demo?

Your help would be great, I really feel like a fool when people ask what I was working on when they joined me. They don't exactly take me seriously when I say that I was just trying to make a tree but couldn't do it XD

But yeah, as far as your specialties go, I am the EXACT opposite. I love doing logic, and I am very experienced with it. But when it comes to visuals, I hate doing them. I can make simple things, but hate having to do it.

Finally, I should have been specific when I say "demo." It really is a bench, and a box. Though I will be starting out a larger demo (which will not display any visuals, just platforms) today. Anyways, I'll add you!

Also, I am in need of an in-game logo designer! I can make a logo on photoshop but I need one for my level badge/main menu.

Message the logos to me over PSN, if I like one, I will let the maker know. They will be included in the description (or credit level if the description gets to large), and their logo will be in the main menu of the level.

Massive update to the tester level. Previously, the level consisted on a box, a bench, and a swing that the tester could just mess around with, now, it has a great looking menu system, as well as one section of the tutorial completed. Beta testers include me, cvb23e, juliankay, gamerater12, and others. Message me on Psn (claydohwizard) for a level key if you'd like to be a tester as well.

Other information:

For those who would like to help, I need:

Movie Cutscene Specialist - People who specialize in cutscenes and movie camera logistics

LBP2 Know-it-all - I run into a lot of bugs and issues, so I would like someone to help me with some questions I may come up with

Logics Mastermind - Im great with logic, but I intend on having an inventory system, and a pause menu, so I need help with making the whole game freeze so that the player can enter menu-mode without bugging up logic

Decorator - Make stuff look pretty

Idea-Man - Im going to have multiple obstacles, enemies-, items, etc, and I can only think up so many. I need another brain to come up with some

Annnd Ill come up with more

Of course the day the new contest comes out, I manage to corrupt my hard drive. Today I had to completely reformat it, so it deleted everything. Im going to try and recollect everything I had. Uggh.. Anyways, I didnt lose my level, since I had it published on my earth, sort of. I had a whole 'items' section of the tutorial, which is now lost. I am assembling a 4-8 person team for the LBPC6 contest! The thread can be found here:
https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=65342-LBPC6-Crisis!-Had-to-Reformat-HDD-Need-Team

There are only four crowns being awarded to the winning team, so Ill only be able to reward 3 other people with crowns, the others will be credited to the best of my ability! I will decide the crown receivers when this really picks up, see who is really committed to this level as much as I am.

Anyways, anyone who wants to help, please apply at the thread posted at the top of this post.

I've got a friend who can solve both of these slots in one. He may not know everything, but can use logic to sort out bugs.
SSTAGG1 (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?13137-SSTAGG1) is your Sack. < Don't punish me for that. Ok I'm gonna stop now.

He created The Mercenaries (partly so did I) and some other levels I don't care about, I mean remember. So I highly recommend him for use. As long as he is active, because he had er.... let's just say he had a LITTLE accident. (Irony there, another pun, really need to stop that.)

Plenty. I am finishing the tutorial, which may not sound as important, but it is a way for me to test added features on the bot. Perfectly working inventory system with extra cool additions like heart rate corresponding to player health. When a player picks up an item in game, it will automatically emit near the inventory and find an open slot. I am currently working on item hotkeys and death sequences. Add me on PSN and check it out if youd like.

Note: I hop to update the demo on my earth massively this weekend with a whole other section of the tutorial

Well I dont even have a story written and the logic is so much and so unorganized. Real work hasnt even started yet. Im going to build a sackbot, which is still incomplete (all I need is death sequences, and then a couple adjustments, and then once he's done, I will build the entire world around him.)

There is small stuff I need done, and if anyone checked the group discussions youll see I posted a task list a week ago with no responses. If im unavailable, just read it and choose one.

Well I mean more like causes of death. I have made other methods of death than fire, electrocution and getting squashed. I have traps that stab, places where you can get stuck for good, anything like that. It needs to kill them properly, and needs to look good2011-12-09 23:06:00
