Getting Soul Calibur 4

Archive: 10 posts

I'm getting Soul Calibur 4 fairly soon, around a week or so and I am a bit concerned about network cables. I ordered a CAT.5 straight from the local shop and when I got the bag home I discovered I got a totally different cable, a CAT 6 twisted. -_-

Anyway, my concern is that it might not work. I have a Jensen router (NL610) and it is very, very old, and I was hoping that someone here might be using the same router as me and could tell me if a twisted cable will work, I can't check since I won't begin drilling into the wall and drag it into the bedroom and connect it too the PS3 in around a week and by that time the waranty will expire and I will have to pay for a new cable. x_x

Bring the ps3 to the router and test it first.2008-12-20 17:05:00

I don't think you have anything to worry about other than cost. A Cat6 cable allows greater bandwidth to pass through it without nearly as much loss in comparison to Cat5. However, the bandwidth we're talking here goes way beyond what you PS3 would ever call for.

I don't think your router would figure into the equation as it - I'm assuming - can handle Cat5. My advice: link the Cat6 cable with your computer for a wired connection. If the computer connects successfully then it should also work with the PS3. Router out of the equation at that point.

To sum up, I think you're fine sticking with the Cat6, but it's on the side of overkill.

Ah, you saved my life, supersickie, a million thanks!

I also found out that the router has a "Auto-sensing straight/crossover cable (MDI/
MDIX)" Which I assume will autoswitch depending on what cable you jam into it, so I don't have to worry about a thing =3

Yeah, I've heard that alot of people get lag, I also heard that if I only pick fights with 4 or 5 "Bars" there should be almost none to no lag.2008-12-21 11:10:00

sometimes there is BAD lag sometimes there is not. but even at its best, there is a SLIGHT lag, which, with soul calibur, changes the whole experience. i was playing my friend online when it first came out and we were about even and there was no lag. then i played him while sitting on the same couch and i kicked his ***. that little bit of lag just throws of your timing, and this game cam come down to timing of a single frame. still fun online, but don't think you'll be getting the same experience you will offline.

and i'm not so sure that hardwiring your router to your ps3 will make much of a difference over wireless. my friend tested that and said there wasn't any difference he could tell.

if you're looking for someone to fight / test out the lag with, i'm up for a game. haven't played in about two months though.

When you're playing SC4 online, lags the last of your problems, you've got to worry more about the 'tards that use the same go******** cheaty attacks all the time. >_>

Using it once - okay, that's not so bad, using it again and again and again - what's the point in even playing?

That's nothing new. People have been doing it in every fighting game ever released since the dawn of time. "Playing cheap" I believe people call it. Yes it sucks, but there's two things you can do : 1- learn to beat them (should be easy depending on the attack), 2- avoid them altogether.

I hear the ladder and special games are much more rampant with this kind of behavior, I've always stuck to standard non-ranked matches myself.
